I don't know... NTSC miniDV cameras are a dime a dozen these days, and are the most common sort of video camera around.

That said, I imagine the quality of whatever they'd be using this for would be miserable, given that the dynamic range of a consumer-grade camera is low enough to completely blow out the highlights whenever stage lighting is used (and you'd better believe that Daft Punk use a *lot* of lighting)

If you look at a bunch of youtube videos of Daft Punk playing, you'll notice that their pyramid looks like it lights up, while it's actually a video display.

still not happy about being forced to miss this show :-/

I emailed them with my details. Who knows if they'll send anything back.

I just realized (I made the last post), do I even want to do this? They're not paying and there doesn't seem to be much of an incentive.

A similar thing is going on with My Morning Jacket at Lollapalooza tomorrow. But you can use your cell phones and any sort of digital camera. And you don't have to sign up beforehand. They're doing it with Current TV, you can check it out on the band's MySpage page and website.

several hundred angles of shakey footage

Think they are making a DVD and want some fan footage?

Posted by Supafly | August 5, 2007 10:48 AM

seriously, though... what's the incentive? i don't want to watch the whole show through a viewfinder for nothing.

beastie boys did this for their MSG concert in 2004, only they provided the cameras (all Hi8), and it actually came out pretty well.

for daft punk though, i can't imagine people going to one of the biggest dance acts around and just standing still and videotaping other people having all the fun.

Doesn't make much sense. If you're not paying anybody, at least provide the person with a free ticket since he/she is using their own equip. Nobody who paid for a ticket will want to ruin they're enjoyment by having to look through a lens the entire time.

fuck that. i could totally do it, but at the expense of getting my groove on... which is the whole point of going.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2007 5:43 PM

maybe michele gondry will use it all to make some sort of genre destroying concert DVD.

Apparently the email account has already been disabled. Guess they got too many requests.

Mike DeMaria loves barbeque

I wrote them too to try to find out more info. Its supposed to be coming tomorrow, but in my first communication they said tripods aren't allowed, so it all has to be handheld.

Does anybody know if Keyspan Park has a curfew? I saw the show in Berkeley and they kicked us out promptly at 11! Info would be appreciated - thanks.

Posted by Pat Hogan | August 8, 2007 3:51 PM

Why is it so hard to find set times to shows like this? Just like the Sonic Youth show, everyone just has to guess. Plus, being on a thursday night, you have to figure out what time to leave work in time to get down to Coney Island.

So, what is best guess for start time?

Here's your answer to the camera shoots:

"The tour version of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" will be issued as a single from the live set, and a video, directed by Oliver Gondry, will feature footage shot by fans at the Brooklyn show. "It is a montage of people shooting the song in the audience with 250 cameras," Bangalter says. "We were inspired by the Beastie Boys' 'Awesome, I F***in' Shot That!' and tried to do that in a four-minute video."
