despite the rain, The National played the Seaport

South Street Seaport - Aug 17, 2007 (CRED - Owen Fegan)
The NAtional @ South Street Seaport

takka takka played i think 5 songs for about 20 minutes, and the forms played about 15 minutes, 3 songs. they could have played longer considering national was done by went on little after 8 and were done by 9:15 and their curfew is i believe 10 oclock. however i think they wanted them to hit the stage because they were expecting more rain later. Too much fratty bs if you ask me (the crowd). But The National sounded good.

the national sounded awesome, and the rainy weather cast the perfect mood- great show, great band!

Hey Megatron .... don't come to the FREE shows anymore. You've proven you're an idiot. The sound system Friday night was an upgrade & the best of the summer & that could be heard clearly everywhere on the pier. The only negative on Friday was the rain which cut short the sets by Takka Takka & The Forms, two great Brooklyn bands we should expect to here more of in the future. Then, we all should say thanks to The National for doing a free show for New Yorkers.

free shows like this are incredible but im always torn bc of the people who TALK AND TALK throughout the most delicate moments of the national's set. i don't care about your social networking, please take it to the bar line, not the middle of the pit.

The National didn''t do that show for free. They got paid.

The National is overrated. Their set was a bunch of predictable anthems.

You're overrated.

Posted by j | August 19, 2007 8:05 PM

Predictable Anthems? Did they do the Star Spangled Banner or something?

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2007 8:10 PM

Despite the rain? I got there just as the National started, and I didn't see a drop.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2007 9:54 PM

it was pouring before the forms played, and before takka takka played. so in between bands, basically.

Glad I stayed to let the rain pass for The National. I wish The Forms played for longer - they sounded great. The National rocked out - good show.

That sound system was an upgrade? From what, tin cans and string?
When the lead vocal microphone can not be heard at all points throughout the show when the band plays even slightly loud, and when the microphone crackles at all points when the lead singer raises his voice, the sound system is unacceptable.
I understand its a free show, but that doesn't obviate the venue's obligation to provide at least an acceptable PA for the band. As I said on my site, the National deserved better.

im not a tech expert here, but i think water on the microphone lead might have caused the crackling and mic cutting out issues. i guess they could have tried to correct it by drying them out.

i wonder if the people who were up close to the stage didnt notice the sound issues. maybe they were getting the monitor/ stage sound and that was ok? i dont know. i was pretty close about midway betwen the sound booth and stage and definitely noticed it.
