Fiery Furnaces played Socrates Sculpture Park
Fiery Furnaces in Long Island City - Aug 26, 2007 (CRED)

The Fiery Furnaces played for free in a beautiful park on a beautiful day, and all was right with the world. The crowd had a buzz, but remained attentive and supportive. The band sounded terrific and performed a short but tight set. With the East River behind them, and Socrates Sculpture Park before them, the Fiery Furnaces whirled through the live Bitter Tea suite, before closing out with a 30-minute medley of older songs. [NYCTaper recorded the show]More tour dates, here.

Furnaces were brilliant as usual! Such a great idea to play a free show in the park -
I even got a picture with Eleanor after the show. I'm pretty sure she thought I was a weirdo, but what can I say - I love the band!

One of the best shows of the year in my opinion... can't wait to hear their new stuff at the Hiro...

Just out of curiosity since I haven't seen the Fiery Furnaces play in a couple years but does Eleanor ever play guitar anymore? All the pics I see of her now are sans the instrument.

I've seen them a few times over the years ... this was certainly the best. They sounded incredible and the drummer and percussionist were both amazing.
Huge show. Immense.

No guitar for Eleanor, and no one playing bass either. Yes, the drummer and percussionist were both amazing - and sweaty by the end!

Really swell afternoon in a busted, but hip park. Eleanor did not play guitar. I wonder if these songs could be reproduced live by any other line-up?

The show was very..sans the obnoxious foursome screaming for "the menagerie" for more then 5 minutes. The joke got old in 5 seconds which even prompted one of the bands members to make fun of them.
Too bad they did not play "Wayward daughter" I was looking foward to that!
