Tunde Adebimpe @ Glasslands Gallery (CRED & VIDEO)
Tunde @ Glasslands

Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn is currently closed. Well, despite some non-believers, they are in fact reopening soon...

Dear Sexy Friends,

We are happy to announce that GlassLands will be reopening! Our first event will be the Lolita Party on August 17th. We will also be having a big ol Grand opening gala on Sept 7th to celebrate our new official legit status.

Big thanks to all our friends who were routing for us and especially to Death By Audio! There were quite a few rumors of why GlassLands had to shut down. The truth is Rolyn and I were chosen as finalist on the hit tv show America's got talent. We had quite a show stopper/jazz hands routine but we lost, so we're back. No biggie.

Some important info:
Continued below...

Each month GlassLands will be donating $1 dollar from each person at the door to a deserving organization mostly in Brooklyn. This will not be for every event but we will specify in emails which events. We are interested in benefiting organizations that help to strengthen and better the community. For September we will be donating to the Brooklyn Free School. http://www.brooklynfreeschool.org . If you have any suggestions for us please send an email to this address: theglasslands@gmail.com Here is something I am really excited about that we hope to start this fall: Through the non for profit organization FreeStyle Arts, GlassLands will be hosting an afterschool music/art/mentoring program 1-2 times a week for neighborhood kids. Our hope is to have volunteers from the neighborhood who can be positive influences in helping to nurture and support kids interest in creative expression. Musicians, painters, sculptors, writers, good people wanted. Our goal is to be able to receive grants for the program so that eventually teachers and volunteer's can be paid. If you are interested in this program please email John co-director of FreeStyle Arts: johncloudkaiser@hotmail.com We are looking for artists who are interested in creating installations at GlassLands. The more your piece interacts with people the better! For more info email: johncloudkaiser@hotmail.com lots of luv Brooke Baxter of GlassLands

Will it be all ages when it reopens?

Uggh, worst venue in town.

Posted by s | August 7, 2007 4:56 PM

it won't be all ages, and is only serving wine & beer for at least the next year...

glad to see this spot reopening, Glasslands is a good, underground, independent venue.

would like them to be all ages. an underground 21+ space just seems kind of - pointless? There's no shortage of 21+ places to see art/music. That said, the collectively terrible booking of most everywhere else in town means that Glasslands does provide a home for good things that simply aren't being booked anywhere else.

hope they're not jumping the gun on predicting they get the beer license... These things can often take undue time and hit snags noone expected.

They closed because they got tickets for serving booze & beer without a license, by the way. The police had come into the place after their bouncer hit an annoying yuppie patron, then ditched.

how can a space not be all ages but still offer "mentoring" to neighborhood kids??

they already have the beer license, so they wont have any more problems for a little while...as long as they dont sell underage.

The place got shut down because management didn't have the fore sight to screen who they hired. That guy at door was an strung out asshole. I'll never go there again.
