Greetings from Oslo

Handsome Furs (CRED)
Handsome Furs

I flew all night, haven't slept, and it's 6 hours ahead here, and the festival has started, SO today may be a little weak.

How were Handsome Furs, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc...???

Talk to you soon!

Handsome Furs was awesome at the Mercury Lounge last night. It was great to see Dan really get into it, and in turn getting the crowd was really into the show. The band also played all the songs on their album.

Suck it up and push through it BV! All the subways and buses are down in NYC right now...which means that no one is at work...which is awesome...but boring...we need you more than ever right now!!

The Handsome Furs show last night at Merc was memorable. As good as the album was, Dan really made their songs sound better live. The band also played all the songs on their album. The crowd was into the show as well, and it was worth the wait.

Handsome Furs at Merc Lounge last night were totally amazing. Dan's soloing on "Dumb Animals" killed. And that was a Tom Petty cover at the end, yes?

I just checked WCBSTV.com. There's an article there that says due to flooding that was a result of the overnight storm, subway trains, Metro North and LIRR are a big mess. It didn't say anything about buses but I imagine they're overcrowded because of the subway problems.

the YYY show was awesome...acoustics could have been better but what do you expect - its friggin webster...karen o totally rocked it last night...i'm in love with her right now (and yes, i'm a female if you're wondering)

Handsome Furs rocked. really enjoyable show. i was pretty drunk and therefore don't remember the set all that well. if anyone can help me out with that it would be appreciated. Dan and Alexei are very cool too. got a chance to chat with them outside before they went on, they were incredibly nice and funny. had a great time. someone please hook me up with the setlist though. thanks

Dear Female,

Please tell us more about your love of Karen O.

Be sure to give as much visual detail as possible in your description. Dont worry BV is in Norway, he wont find out!

Yeah, here's a list of service alerts: http://mta.info/alert/alertnyct.htm

Peelander Z were so fun last night. I just can't help laughing at their antics. Go!Go!7188 were competent but boring in comparison (but really, almost anyone would be).

the setlist was the entire album plus a new song called 'heaven' and the tom petty cover 'you got lucky'...alexie and dan are both amazing performers...every song was right on and dan added some incredible guitar solos, while alexie was rocking out to every beat...one of the best shows i've seen all summer...

There is no L train service in both directions between the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway Station and the 8th Avenue Station.

WHAT IS A HIPSTER TO DO??

stay home and try out new hair styles!

Posted by Hipster Dude | August 8, 2007 10:38 AM

yyys rocked it last night, super tight set and an enthusiastic sweaty bouncy audience. hot hot hot. anyone have the setlist?

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2007 10:42 AM

Yeah Yeah Yeahs... best show ever (yes aside from it being at Webster). Karen O seriously has an infectious smile. Tight set and the floor was pumping. She is what a rock star is supposed to be.

Best line by Dan from the Handsome Furs show (in regards to their song "Heaven" being inspired by the movie Smokin' Aces):

Jeremy Piven in Entourage = pretty good. Jeremy Piven in Smokin Aces = pretty good. Smokin Aces = not so good.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs!!!!
1. Amazing
2. Outstanding.
3. Insane.

Karen O is a monster and she makes the show. I have noticed how much the drummer and the guitarist back her up and just let her do her thing. They played almost everything including Kiss Kiss and Down Boy from their EP. I was front row and almost center and I dont think I could have seen it any other way. Karen was touching and spitting on me and it was pure beauty.

Other High Points:
-Really nice t-shirts.
-I scored a guitair pick from a roadie that was used by Nick Zinner.
-Tiny Masters of Today were sick as well!
-The guy from Tiny Masters rapped Jump Around as their closing song (which really kick-started the show).

Overall, the show was great (except for Girls Girls Girls) and I would see them again in a heartbeat.

did Handsome Furs play Plague Park in order? i feel like a fuckin idiot. i got too intoxicated. i know they were fantastic i just cant remember how good they were.

Posted by noble | August 8, 2007 10:58 AM

I thought I walked into a Pete Wentz and Ashley Simpson doing a Bruce Springsteen tribute with a drum machine. If this is where the music scene has de-evolved to, please let me off. You kids can have it.

I'll take it!

Posted by A Kid | August 8, 2007 11:44 AM

you can let yourself off anytime, josef

While I was probably the only BV reader there, BB King and Al Green put on one hell of a show. It was a perfect combination of Memphis soul and Mississippi blues. Al Green is hot shit and he's still got one hell of a set of pipes, and BB King is an American treasure and a living piece of history. People here often talk about audience interaction, but you have no idea what that really can mean until you see BB King live and in person. The man loves his fans more than any other performer I have ever seen, and his shows are a pure celebration of life. Plus he still tears it up on the guitar.

Yeah Yeah Yeah's were incredible last night. I would put it in my top 3 shows I have seen this year. Karen O is a serious Rock Star. I have been to 3 or 4 other shows at Webster this year and she was the only one to get the crowd going like that. Anyone have some good pics?

PS. Natatlie Portman was just to the left of me for most of the show.

Hey Josef - why did you go? If you knew anything about the Handsome Furs (or Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, etc...), you should have known what to expect. The show was great.

best thing about handsome furs was the opener called phosphorescent. great one all around though.

Posted by Anonymous | August 8, 2007 5:26 PM

noble: no, they didnt play plague park in order. they did KILL the show though & it was certainly worth the past 4 month wait. now i just hope it's not too long until they come 'round again but sadly i feel it may be... btw, is it just me or have the boggs been around for too long?

Posted by underbridges | August 8, 2007 7:23 PM

what about the im from barcelona show? was anyone there?

twas awesome!

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 12:12 AM

Hey Josef, it's good to see that you have the forsight to:

1. Buy tickets for what would eventually be a sold out show knowing nothing about the band that caused the show to be sold out (oh wait, yeah, maybe "the bogs" were your reason for going...)

2. Go to the show still knowing absolutely nothing about the headlining act.

3. Walk in at the last minute and make a half assed (possibly drunken) attempt at judging a muscial act based on their setup and/or equipment.

I guess you should stick to shows at Webster Hall where the acts cater more to your taste and play with setups and instruments you feel more safe and comfortable with. Don't worry, its all bass guitar and drums there, no scary drum machines to to make the music seem half assed (cause apparantly you would be a master sequencer if you were put in front of Alexei's Korg Electribe).

While were at it, why don't you remind the rest of us what musical contributions you have made to the "scene" you refer to? What songs are you writing or what shows are you playing or what people are you touching with your whimsical lyrics and melodies?????? Pray tell my ignorant friend?? Don't worry, Im not posting as "anonymous" so that lame argument won't apply.
