It's official - Amy Winehouse cancels U.S. Tour

Due to the rigours involved in touring, Amy Winehouse has been advised to postpone her upcoming September US and Canadian tour dates. All ticket holders may obtain refunds at their point of purchase. Amy's European and UK tour dates in October and November remain in place. Plans are being made to reschedule her US tour for early 2008. Until then, Amy has been ordered to rest and is working with medical professionals to address her health. She also just cancelled her appearance at the Oya Festival in Norway, which kind of worked out for me because she was supposed to play at the same time as Nine Inch Nails, and so I wasn't forced to make any decisions. She also cancelled one of my SXSW shows in March, which even back then was barely a surprise. Now her cancelling a show I guess is just old news. Somehow though, I did manage to catch her at another SXSW appearance, and at Bowery. Her other successful NYC shows have been at Joe's Pub and at Highline Ballroom.

is she actually good or just a gimmick (coked up white girl singing soul)? i mean obviously she didn't write any of the music but does she still have some talent or stage presence?
Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 6:52 PM
why do people actually pay any attention to her? absolute rubbish, all the way around.

She actually wrote all the songs on the album. I think she is a great studio musician, and I believe that Back to Black is one of the best albums this year. That being said, she seems incredibly bored live, as if she would rather be a thousand different places but on stage. In the studio her writing and singing are impeccable, but live she has absolutely nothing going for her. Which is a shame because her backing band is quite good.

Only reason I'd go would be if the Dap Kings were backing her.

Saw her at Lollapalooza in Chicago last month; she was terrific.

There are a few great songs on her album but live, as Evan has said, she seems bored. The backing band makes the live show worthwhile but other than her hair, she doesn't have much presence, and I really don't think she sings as well live.

winehouse sucks, and to anon 7:16, you should have seen Los Campesinos!

Evan I (anon 652) just could be cynical but from working in a recording studio, i seemed to learn that most of these pop stars don't actually "write" their albums. i mean norah jones didn't even write most of the shit on her albums. jesse harris and others did.
Even when they say they did, often their contribution is so minimal in the pop realm (also with corporate nickelback type rock radio they don't write much of their shit. i read some article saying that some group called hinder who went like platinum or something "co-wrote" all their songs with their producer...aka the guy wrote it for them.)

I have never seen her in person but I do have some live bootlegs where she sounds very good. And how does anyone know she obviously didn't write the songs on her cd? She does however need to become more professional and get her shit together.
As for "BV, Queens of the Stone Age are playing WaMu Theatre at MSG October 13th. There's apparently a presale starting Thursday at 10 am. Pleaseeeee post a password when/if you find one out." what does this have to do with Amy Winehouse?

I love amy to bits, was really excited to see her at virgin fest a few weeks ago. I didnt think much of her performance. The voice sounded good but she looked very disinterested.
Do we know if paulo nutini is still touring without her? I caught 2 of his songs at the fest too, and he was GREAT. one of them was the jungle book song.

It is a shame, however I could use the money back anyway!!! I like Amy, saw her a few months back at Electric Factory w/ dap Kings, I thought she was great. At Virgin fest a few weeks back, she looked MUCH thinner, and although her voice sounded good, her vocal timing was less-than-inspired (I'd say lazy). Not surprising she didn't look into it... she was in a hospital within the next few days!

Prev. poster...if you dug Amy's backing band, Brooklyn's Dap Kings, check them out with Sharon Jones...that's the real deal people!!

That eye liner shit she wears? Her face needs a good scrubing. Fugly like dog sick.

yeah, fk amy. Sharon Jones has got SOUL!
Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2007 10:05 AM
Hi Rosie! Thanks for the recommendation, I will check out Sharon Jones. I've never heard of her before.
Concerning Dap Kings, I thought they were tight enough, but they didn't score the music they were playing themselves... so I'm curious as to what they will do behind other singers. Do the have a sound of their own? I'll check them out further...

is Paola Nutini still going to play then? Maybe he will move to Bowery or something the night that they were supposed to play Central Park?

At least Lily has a record in my mind for showing up to more shows than Amy.

"It's official - Amy Winehouse cancels U.S. Tour"
Actually, its not official! The press release says "postpone" not "cancel". Ticketmaster has marked some shows as cancelled, but according to them, NYC and LA are still on.

Again I understand where you are coming from. The truth is that much of the song are very autobiographical. She went through a very difficult breakup with her boyfriend and that subject is what the majority of the songs are on this album. Also the lyrics are probably much too racy and explicit for anyone but Winehouse to pen herself. I could be wrong, but I really do believe that she wrote the vast majority of the album herself.

i dig the Ronnie Spector Look she has going (not a fan of the she-tats though...) but her music is more pablum for the sorostitute masses who'll sing along with anything when fed enough over-priced vodka cocktails.
also, poster 'J' at the top... i shot my lukewarm ice tea thru my nostrils when i read that - funny and true.
