Joe's Pub in the Park - Beirut, Patty Griffin & more

Joes pub in the park

The gypsy music scene is getting big, even Gogol Bordello was on Letterman last night, but Beirut is a terrible example of the music. They feel like those many "white" bands doing afrobeat. Balkan Beat Box (from Europe btw) are repetitive live, IMHO. Can't wait for the festival again this year, but I will skip Beirut. They just don't fit in.

"They feel like those many "white" bands doing afrobeat."

So by your logic white people can't play hip hop, black people can't play rock, and hispanic people can't play anything that isn't hispanic sounding, etc. Awesome. Forget peace, what the world needs now is more people who think like you do.

Anyone have a link to a seating chart for the Delacorte?

Sorry for using the race analogy, but I just saw a terrible band, the Boston Afrobeat something, doing horrible afrobeat music and they were still in my head. Unfortunately, many of these college afrobeat bands are terrible.

A better analogy would be MC Hammer at the Rock the Bells festival. Sure he might be a black rapper, but his watered-down commerical music doesn't fit in. Same with Beirut. It's so watered down, I wouldn't even consider it close to being "gypsy" music. I would say the fans of Beirut and gypsy music are almost mutually exclusive. For a good local band, check out Luminescent Orchestri.

I guess $25 is reasonable

...for me to poop on!

Yeah, does anyone have a seating chart? I feel sure I saw one once, but no amount of googling is turning one up.

Thanks.

12:14 by that logic, white people can't play rock, rap, the blues, r&b, etc.

Posted by Anonymous | September 27, 2007 11:34 AM

white people can't dance either...
