MF Doom @ the El Ray in LA - Aug 12, 2007 (CRED)

"New York" and "Tokyo" represent two extremes. East and West, underground and mainstream, cool and cute, futurism and traditionalism... NEWYORK-TOKYO MUSIC FESTIVAL's mission is to evenly encompass both sides of paired extremes and spawn a new creative experience.
This year's show is in Central Park on September 22nd, 2007 @ 2pm. MF Doom, Pharoahe Monch, Collie Budz, Teriyaki Boyz, and DJ Uppercut are among those performing. Tickets are on sale.

MF Doom's last NYC show was at Randall's Island for Rock The Bells.

Dont go to this. MF Doom might not even show up for it.

This show is in NYC, so let's hope that the "real" MF DOOM performs! I can't believe this shit went down. Remember, BV, All Caps when you spell the man's name!

Even though "MF DOOM" may be a letdown (or a no show, or a skinny white dude in a mask lip syncing), Pharoahe Monch's sets are fire. They match the intensity of Desire.

The New York - Tokyo Music Festival last year was free. Talib Kweli and A-Trak were there, plus some fantastic other acts. Shit loads of ad-tents with product samples and advertising, so everything got paid for. It was great. $22 + service fee this year? Naw thanks.

For MF-Doom and Pharaohe $22+fees sounds good to me. Too bad I don't have the money right now.

whoa. i need more info on this.

I think I need a skinny white dude in a mask to show up places for me.

mf doom lipsynched his entire rock the bells set right here in nyc.

NOT TRUE!!! Real DOOM fans. he lost weight, and he DEFINITELY did not lipsync, I was there on stage! For more info listen soon to spitkicker radio on XM 65

i was also there.. and thought it sounded weird and kind of strange that he didnt say a single word besides the songs. look up stuff on youtube from the rock the bells nyc, and then try to tell me that he wasnt lipsyncing. just by the sound of it you can tell. its quite obvious.

i was there (rock the bells nyc). my friend spoke to the sound man. he confirmed that the microphones were off during doom's set. i don't know where you are from. but where i'm from that counts as lip synching.

cornballs lol. DOOM did not lipsync at the rtb show in nyc lol!!!

so you're saying his hype man was lip syncing as was talib kweli? you're a bunch of dopes.

Posted by wtf | September 8, 2007 11:36 PM

I've seen DOOM twice; once in ATL, once in NYC. Both times his show was ridiculous. Maybe he hated on Cali and sent out a double, but he wouldn't do that shit in NY.

Posted by BallsyFresh | September 11, 2007 1:03 PM

hype men were not lip syncing.. talib didnt either. but doom was. just search doom rock the bells and watch the new york clips, and if you have a decent pair of ears, youll hear what everyone else is hearing.

someone in another forum somewhere was talking about how the in the comics for dr. doom, something that he does is send out 'doom-bots' to do shit and everyone gets faked out and really thinks its the real dr. doom. but its not. im thinking he did this with that in mind..

dont believe all this ish, he wouldnt kill his career by doing this in nyc - even if all those other shows were BS, that's all part of his shtick. anyway i'd pay at least $20 to see pharoah alone, his shows with his band are sick.

Posted by hypekillah | September 14, 2007 11:03 AM

MF Doom did not play. Some guy came on stage around 8 and said he was in the hospital. He asked for a moment of silence and many in the crowd chose to boo instead.
Does anyone know how I might go about getting a refund? My friends and I looked around for some official after the announcement but we had no luck. Most people seemed clueless.

Doom is a fraud!!! how does he pull a no show. RAKIM rocked the mic and saved the show.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2007 12:26 AM

well it's not difficult all he has to do is not show up

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2007 1:32 AM

where are the doom defenders now?
dude lipsynched at rock the bells. pulled a no show at another rock the bells. and now pulls a no show in nyc.

unless he's trying to be amy winehouse it's a bad schtick

i was at the nyc show on the 22nd booing too. I'd also like my money back. I have to say though, pharoah monch held his own after kenny mohammed's announcement. Mf doom was a huge let down. what the hell?

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2007 2:51 PM

hey all. this is one of the producers of the show. it wasn’t BS - Doom's manager called us with the bad news and we had to tell the truth to his fans. yeah it was a major f-ed up situation, so we pulled all our strings to get Rakim to perform at the last minute. pharoah's set was sick too - this wasn't meant to be THE DOOM SHOW, it was a whole all day fest. we'll just have to wait to find out about Doom's future, and pray for the best.

I'm gonna have to call bullshit on this

Posted by Rich | September 24, 2007 11:05 AM

Suppa Motha Fuckin' Villain Ya'll

-eh yo there aint no way in hell Doom will be a no show in his home state. i've watched his shows from the bonus DVD included in the Rhymesayers MM..FOOD re-release an the show he did in NYC was absolute heat. an he showed as much love to the NY fans as he did at any of the other shows on the DVD.
