Will Smiths"....with the only proviso being that Johnny Marr was also in the band." [Press Release]

And about the upcoming shows:

A "season ticket" will be made available in both LA & NYC, eliminating all surcharges for any fans attending every show, which will provide a savings of over $50 in itself.

Also, for the Palladium run, fans will have a special, limited-time opportunity to purchase tickets to all 10 concerts for the price of nine, and to gain early entry into the venue for each show. Starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 27, through 10 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, special 10-night packages will be available at LiveNation.com, Ticketmaster.com and via Ticketmaster charge-by-phone. In addition to the great savings, fans will also receive a special commemorative ticket that will allow them to go to the front of the line and get right up close in this GA setting. Considering that these are the last live dates on his calendar, this is a fantastic chance for Morrissey's diehard followers to take in every song and relish every detail of what is sure to be an amazing residency.

For the shows at Hammerstein Ballroom, a similar limited-number offer applies. Fans planning to attend all five shows will receive a special package price of $200, thereby saving $125 off of the individual tickets, as well as a commemorative poster, and they will be allowed to go to the front of the line each night, so they can be the first ones in the building and closest to the stage.

I was all set to see one of his shows... until I read that rejection of the offer with the Johnny Marr proviso. Fuck you, Moz.

"When asked why he would not reform with The Smiths, Morrissey responded 'I feel as if I’ve worked very hard since the demise of the Smiths and the others haven’t, so why hand them attention that they haven’t earned? We are not friends, we don’t see each other. Why on earth would we be on a stage together?'"

Moz is still a 15-year-old boy pretending he's Elvis in the mirror.

What an asshole.

yeah, i pretend to know what goes on in the hearts, minds and lives of celebrities and artists that i've surely never met (except for some swell blender letter post-show smile/hug snapshot) as well.

I wonder how many people will see Morrissey 10 nights in a row in LA??

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2007 8:06 PM

Somehow I'm not impressed about how many shows he's supposedly done recently. I had tickets to see him in July at PNC theater, which he cancelled and never scheduled again. Thanks, Morrissey.

After canceling his MSG and PNC concert, then scrambling for good pit tix to the Philly show, I will undoubtedly go to all the Ballroom shows. He may be a major douche regarding the band that put him on the map, but the man makes great music. No concert is the same.

Does anyone know when the NYC tix go on sale?

Wait a minute: People are pissed at Morrissey because he won't accept money to do something he doesn't want to do? Any of you soulless fuckwads who think he's an asshole for doing what he wants needs to have a mental enema.

And for the record I'm not a fan of his music. He just earned a LOT of respect from me for this alone.

IF this cockamamie story is true. I mean, c'mon folks. $75 million? For a SMITHS reunion?

I

don't

THINK

so.

derek jeter looks good in that pic, no?

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2007 11:18 PM

who fuken cares

75 dollars up your arse

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2007 12:01 AM

Yeha pretty funny reading the fuckwads posting about this. If he accepted the offer you would be calling him a money grubbing sellout. And for the person above, 75 million for The Smiths reunion is pretty spot on. Are you kidding me? That tour would sell out every stadium they came to and fast.
Although the funniest thing is reading on that link how Morrissey wants to finish this run by playing very small intimate places where he can see everyone's eyes. Hahaha again amazing someone calling Hammerstein a small intimate venue. WIlco and Beasties both found out how not intimate that place is. Still better than MSG although that is not saying much.

Put it this way... there aren't too many artists that create so much hype by NOT touring. It just proves how relevant Moz still is in this age of interweb/myspace music pollution. Myself included.

Which will be better for ordering "season" tickets, Ticketbastard.com or AbomiNation.com?

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2007 5:10 AM

Is this "season ticket" deal merely a sop to the fans who would attend all five or ten shows regardless, or is it an indication that the set list will vary somewhat from show to show within a "season"? God help me if I hear "At Last I Am Born" five times in one week.

He refused $75M now thats CLASS!!

Posted by ed | August 24, 2007 7:50 AM

uh, his decision, not yours.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2007 9:29 AM

i'm pretty psyched he turned it down. imagine if someone asked you to go back to who you were 20 years ago. ich. the 75 mil is money he doesn't need for something he doesn't want. good on him for passing. plus, JM has plenty going on. he doesn't need a smiths reunion either. they will both continue to create great music, and not wallow in rehashing their pasts, so we should all be happy.

Posted by j | August 24, 2007 9:30 AM

he doesn't have to play with them if he doesn't want to - he doesn't owe any of us that.

"We are not friends, we don’t see each other. Why on earth would we be on a stage together?" good point.

"I feel as if I’ve worked very hard since the demise of the Smiths and the others haven’t, so why hand them attention that they haven’t earned?" ok, now you're just being a jerk.

personally, it's probably better that they don't reunite. sometimes reunion shows and tours can be fun and really great. but sometimes things have run their course and are fondly remembered - and that's OK, too.

Posted by janelle | August 24, 2007 9:36 AM

He sucks without them. Ok, if he doesn't need them then stop playing old Smiths songs at your solo gigs.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2007 9:57 AM

yeah, and it's our decision to decide if he's a fuckwad for deciding this. see? we can be selfish assholes too.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2007 10:59 AM

You assholes are sad. Get a fucking life.

Posted by Chupamemipinga | August 24, 2007 11:54 AM

Wow, you've really got to hate someone to turn down $75 million to tour with them for a year. Seriously though, w/o the rhythm section it would be pretty pointless IMO.

Posted by noisebin | August 24, 2007 12:09 PM

yes we assholes can now afford to get a fucking life, since we saved some $$$ from spending it on this "final" tour.

oh no, did i just lower the market value for the scalpers reading this and keeping up the Morrissey hype? for shame.

Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2007 12:58 PM

Man, what's with the negativity.

How is it surprising to any Morrissey fan that he's petulant and a bad team player?

Posted by amol | September 6, 2007 1:16 PM

I actually prefer a solo Mozza over The Smiths. The music is slightly more interesting. And let's not forget that the band was great primarily because of Mozz. No offense to Johnny, but Modest Mouse was kick ass before he joined them.
