i think im deleting deerhunter's album from my ipod after that exchange.
ill be there friday though. BATTLES!
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:25 PM
sometimes i think i like it better when i know less about the band members.
bradford is kind of getting annoying.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:26 PM
wow, that chick needs to eat.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:27 PM
its back
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:35 PM
has deerhunter 'jumped the shark'?
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:37 PM
long past annoying. the interview with stephen malkmus was enough for me.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:39 PM
Does somebody need a snack? Those are some truly terrifying gams.
Posted by Me | August 29, 2007 12:49 PM
I liked his interview with S.M. He shouldn't get into it with this blogger, though. It's only inflating the guy's sense of importance. I hate it when musicians get into the blogging game. It kind of erodes their mystique. Especially for a band like Deerhunter.
Deerhunter is still good. How could they "jump the shark"? Their last release was excellent.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:54 PM
"Indie Marilyn Manson." Word.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 12:59 PM
Has anybody actually been listening to all the free music Deerhunter's blog posts every week? I don't care what surrounds it, it's qute good. If the Atlas Sound cover of the Everly Brothers' "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)" is jumping the shark, then we should all be leaping over those vicious fuckers.
Posted by Jeff K | August 29, 2007 1:15 PM
bradford's obviously using his appearance to draw more attention to their mediocre "best new music" this month, "deer-who?", next month "band".
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 1:21 PM
That guy is too skinny for his own skinny pants. Seriously--saw him live at Pitchforkfestival walking around...thought maybe I'd send him some literature about Renfrew clinic.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 1:49 PM
So who's seen both bands? Battles and Deerhunter. I saw Battles once opening for Jamie Lidell and didn't get into their music, but when I saw Deerhunter it was a different history... they were ace. Battles better be really good on Friday or they are gonna look bad after all.
I don't care how thin, gay or stupid sometimes Bradford is. He and his band are making great music.

I guess it has to be said in every comment thread: BRADFORD COX HAS A GENETIC CONDITION THAT MAKES HIM SO SKINNY.
Also, this second-hand blog beef is not newsworthy.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 2:04 PM
Does he also have a genetic condition that makes him terribly annoying?
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 2:17 PM
Looks like Bradford Cox isn't boring enough for the indie blog community.
But he's giving you something to read about, right? He's like Pitchfork's Paris Hilton! But with talent!

I'll have a steak, a milkshake, and my finger down my throat
Posted by rick | August 29, 2007 2:29 PM
Rick- Maybe you're kidding, but ininuating that he has an eating disorder is really shitty. The dude has Marfan's, which can cause several health problems.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 2:45 PM
Passion of the Wuss is a fucking LA douchebag. Why did BV even take the time to entertain his bullshit?
Posted by TWB | August 29, 2007 3:59 PM
So yeah, Bradford has Marfan's and yeah, Cryptograms is a good record (especially the second half) but between this weird little exchange, their blog, that awful and uncomfortable interview with Malkmus (telling someone you jerked it to them = kind of too much even for someone obviously trying to push buttons) and pretty much everything this band has done since the beginning of this year, Deerhunter have blown all chances they have of being taken seriously. I don't know if that's what they're going for but they really are becoming an "indie" Marilyn Manson, just shock value and their music has suffered since then.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 4:06 PM
skinny doesn't look so bad when in jeans and a t-shirt. i'm not saying he needs to be 100% covered, but he's obviously bringing more attention to his body issues in a fucking glittery dress and tights.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 4:11 PM
Sounds like he's pissing off all the right people.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 4:32 PM
I thought the back-and-forth between Cox and that critic was really funny. The guy has a slightly off-kilter sense of humour that people seem to misinterpret very easily - he was just goofing around, it wasn't intended as some kind of personal attack on that critic\blogger. I'll be glad when the blogs\music sites etc cool off on covering every inane bit of activity around them because they have the potential to come up with some really great music and the other stuff is just a distraction really.

PS - Bradford and Jeff Weiss patched things up, check out the latest Passion of the Weiss \ Deerhunter blog entries. Internet feuds: bringing people closer together since 1997!
Posted by Richie | August 29, 2007 7:51 PM
hey BV thanks for posting this - its why i got you on RSS son!
haha FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! love it. anyone see in the comments where someone points out Brad has done this before to other bloggers? priceless
Posted by Su @ World's Fair | August 29, 2007 7:56 PM
an anorexic and a jew walk into an indie rock bar, and the jew says...
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2007 10:56 PM
wow so amazing how many idiots there are in the world quick to dismiss deerhunter. Controversial , yes. Attention hungry paris hilton indie rock type?!??!
I don't think so
don't confuse not being afraid to be brutally honest about one's life and history and experience with PARIS FUCKING HILTON
I commend bradford for being so balls out and speaking his mind. If you think it's "jumping the fucking shark" then you are a fucking dumb ass
what IS jumping the shark?!?! you jump AFTER the shark in the ocean? I don't get it.
ps. I only went to elementary school

anyone know set times tonight?
Posted by tailless | August 31, 2007 5:35 PM
That was a very sloppy show from Deerhunter. Love the album, but they need to tighten up live.
Posted by Anonymous | August 31, 2007 11:17 PM
sloppy only b/c bradford broke a string and still kept going. that show was awesome! top 2 of the concerts i've been too. i loved how there was just some people in the audience really into it...and ::gasp:: actually dancing
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2007 10:00 AM
if you find him as annoying, why are you reading his blogs?
Posted by Anonymous | September 1, 2007 4:14 PM
I agree. the Deerhunter set could have been tighter. They kept messing up during one of my favorite songs, Octet. I saw the live twice so far and both times they couldn't play that song properly. The producer of the album did a great job.
