See if you can spot the photobloggers...

Admittedly, I sort of have no earthly idea what that guy is talking about either. :-)
Does this have something to do with ASCAP?

I like him!

there gets to be a point where he's so hated that he becomes the underdog and likeable. i totally dig this guy.

look, i hate president bush as much as the next 23 year old brooklynite, but the fact that music royalties haven't shown up on his radar and he doesn't really know the specifics of what our laws about them are is something that i'm pretty comfortable with. as much as we all care about this issue, and love music, in terms of running the country, it is pretty much irrelevant.

as i understand it, if artists have a song on tv or radio, the station doesnt have to pay a government mandated royalty (statutory royalties) to the artist, whereas on cable television stations, satellite, and web radio DO have to pay those royalties. i think the guy just wants more royalties to be paid when a song is on regular television & radio.

at least he admitted hes clueless for a change

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 11:41 AM

also, just to add a thought... it makes sense that record labels want higher royalties. they obviously aren't selling as much music as they used to. with higher royalties, the companies might be able to stay afloat. they wont HAVE to sell music anymore.

he is likable, he is simple charms

Posted by favian | August 3, 2007 11:43 AM

I don't really understand how people call him stupid.

I guess most Americans really are that dense. Bush is a fucking genius. This whole idiot thing is an act. He's just an evil, evil man.

Just don't think about it. Just don't let it worry you. Relax. We're all safe here. I don't have any earthly idea what your talking about. Amurca. Amurca. Texas. Texas. My wife. You know Laura. She's...she's right over there... Hi Honey. Honey, do you know what this guy's talking about? Rwanda? Listen buddy, that was Bubba Clinton's problem-- we've been inheriting his mistakes. Just don't think about it, I mean, if you wanna sing, sing. Ok. We're at war here. War on Terra. All Terra. All across this great land, we're gonna eratialate terra. Wipe it out. I don't have any earthly idea.... chuckchuck

Idolator covered this ten days ago: http://idolator.com/tunes/george-w%27-bush/george-w-bush-apparently-not-chummy-with-many-record+industry-lobbyists-281738.php

And since the guy asked about royalties for peformers, it has nothing to do with ASCAP, which represents songwriters and publishers.

Wow. I mean fucking WOW.
"Noble life demands a noble architecture for noble uses of noble men. Lack of culture means what it has always meant: ignoble civilization and therefore imminent downfall.” -Frank Lloyd Wright.
To Bush, American "culture" means only Patsy Cline, McDonald's and Smith and Wesson.
I really wonder if he could recognize an Ansel Adams photograph or a Willem de Kooning painting (or even a Warhol for that matter) or a Leadbelly song.
Now I'm no elitist and I'm not saying that every American needs to know Fine Art front to back, but civilization lives and dies by it's culture and the fact that this man does not recognize the importance of state-funded art is a testament to his overall ignorance of time, place and history.
I mean, Jesus Christ, even FDR dumped millions into art and architecture (McCarren Pool for one) programs. And he was labeled a Socialist.

Posted by Christopher | August 3, 2007 2:46 PM

the best part of the clip is the audience that laughs and applauds his ignorance. 'He's as dumb as i am! YAY!' What a straightshooter!

"I mean, Jesus Christ, even FDR dumped millions into art and architecture (McCarren Pool for one) programs. And he was labeled a Socialist."

Right, because FDR built a public pool in brooklyn (a real marvel of 20th century architecture) because he knew one day it would crust over, be condemned, and then reemerge as a highly overrated indie rock venue for some jerk in tight black jeans. Right. "Arts." Get over yourself.

3:34 is a prick. What are you even trying say?

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 3:50 PM

but hey, he says he listens to country music that has to count for something. oh wait, nevermind

One thing I've learned about Bush throughout his presidency and public speeches is that he is hilarious: what a dolt! He should do stand-up after his term is over so that every show can end with people throwing tomatoes at him.

and the best part about this is that for the first time in 8 years I am actually laughing about his ignorance and not feel like shit because it didn't cost the lives of men, women, children and hinder the development of third world countries!

BUSH for Court Jester 2008!

Oh,

and something a little more current:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/04/bridge.bush/index.html

"I bring prayers from the American people to those who have suffered loss of life as a result of the collapse of the 35W bridge in the Twin Cities. I bring prayers to those who wonder whether they'll ever see a loved one again," Bush said on his visit.

"I have met with the chief of police and the sheriff and rescue workers -- people who represent men and women working as hard as they possibly can to save life and to find life -- to go under these murky waters to find the facts. And it's going to take awhile."

Thanks for yet another fine demonstration of empathy for the loss of human lives, Bush! Maybe this wasn't your fault either...
