SHOCKING PINKS (exBrunette New Zealand DFA) MP3/show
DOWNLOAD: Shocking Pink - I want You Back (MP3)
Nick Harte used to be the drummer in the Brunettes. Now the New Zealander's side-project Shocking Pinks is not a side project, and now he's signed by DFA...
On September 25, the label(s) will release the self-titled Shocking Pinks, a compilation of remastered tunes from Shocking Pinks' two 2005 albums for NZ label Flying Nun, both of which were follow-ups to SP's debut, Dance the Dance Electric. The MP3 above is sort of like a short little ode to Jesus & Mary Chain, but the tracks streaming on his MySpace are much more varied. Shocking Pinks will play his first-ever (and very last-minute) NYC show TONIGHT (Aug 15, 2007) @ 200 Orchard. His set time is 10pm.Thus, the purpose of Shocking Pinks is to reintroduce Harte's solo wanderings to the world, a project he and DFA/Astralwerks will continue with forthcoming remixes by artists like Deerhunter, the Glimmers, Arkitype, and Eluvium.

The Shocking Pinks were tapping into shoegaze (successfully and not pastiche) years before the whole Serena Maneesh, Deerhunter thing) although I must say that Deerhunter remixing the Shocking Pinks sounds to be pretty awesome.
