it was kind of a lame finale to the McCarren Pool summer season

Anyone notice that the vast majority of Brooklyn Vegan forum responses are bitter, negative and bitchy?

Why bother.

girl next to me was screaming omg best show ever into her cellphone (when spank rock came out).
the girl who was with spank rock, very sexy girl, that might have been worth the price admission.

i found the freddy mercury meets axl rose act of ghostland observatory just slightly creepy. they did save their best song for last, whatever it was.

the guy from yacht took q and a from the audience, someone asked him an innocent question about his shirt and he told a very dirty story about sexual practices of japanese girls.

Amanda Blank killed it. Spank Rock seemed to be mailing it in. I love the Cool Kids, but they couldn't get the crowd amped. Ghostland Observatory were pretty good I thought. Some of their songs just kept going on and on and on though. Their last song was pretty sweet. It had a whole bunch of people shaking.

Yacht always puts on a super fun show -- glad to see he played Brooklyn!

Ghostland rocked. Love the cool kids on record, but they were loose live. Spank rock was good, but in there enough to sell it.

Ghostland's live show was crazy, never really checked them out before.

Was Ryan Gosling there? I swear I saw him in front of me in the crowd then suddenly on stage.

The hilarious thing about that post is that anon @ 11:50 a.m. fails to see the irony in it.

Posted by wallstreet | August 20, 2007 1:33 PM

Battles! Fiery Furnaces! YAY!

Thanks to global warming, summer doesn't end for me until November. Plenty of shit left to see!

yacht was great,

hey nyc noise fan, yacht also gave an innocent and correct answer to the question he was asked.

it has nothing to do with doing anything sexual to girls.

do a quick google search before you start running your mouth.

Was this the last pool party ever?

Posted by sean | August 20, 2007 2:03 PM

dan- thanks for the link, japanese school girls are crazy cool!

YACHT were super, the whole rap set was pretty great, I think Ghostland Observatory sound like INXS. It was a good show but certainly could have used a serviceable headliner. I hope the Pool Parties don't end here, it's New York's most hang out friendly concert venue.

Quite possible...They might turn into a real pool or something.

Imma gonna miss that nip slip and slide.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2007 2:26 PM

the whole deal was amateur. yacht was the equivalent of a drunk highschooler with weak dance moves. i love cool kids, but they couldn't pull it off at the pool. spank rock seemed completely uninterested in performing. everyone just seemed to not give a shit. ghostland is a decent band that shouldn't be headlining anything of that size, yet. man, kinda sucks that was the last one at the pool.

i dont know man yacht was kind of fun, he def had that dan deacon vibe about him.

man, no one mentioned it who was that lady rapper who was doing the im the undertaker song (first or second song of the set?) it was pretty good. sorry for the stupid question, im not too familiar with the hip hop scene.

south philly what

ghostland was actually a fun show to watch... have you ever noticed that in the indie rock scene that there aren't many frontmen that stand out much as singers or performers?? .... or have much 'style'?

but remember when we (us in our 30's) had bands like journey, led zeppelin, the police, u2, prince, van halen (w/ dlr), bowie etc... who were all good bands with a strong singer (before their embarrasing side projects)

in their hayday-

either way, they were real singers. nowadays it's like frontmen are specifically trying to NOT have their own style and just sound like a regular kid who is shy.

rambling aside, ghostland made me realize that singers have really been lacking in the general 'indie' scene.

any thoughts?... does anyone else feel the missing personalities or do you prefer it?

Uhh so that might have been me on my phone... sorry! I was a bit tipsy and a little excited that there was a parade of amazing artist with Philly roots (Santo, Amanda Blank!)

BBC killed it, and so did Yacht, but everyone was even more apathetic then usual, and that's saying a lot...
