The Cure reschedules 2007 Tour Dates
somebody get the Cure a new look please

With all apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment it may cause, we have made a decision to move the September/October 2007 North American Cure shows to April/May 2008.Contiuned below....The schedule as it stands only gives us a couple of weeks to finish our new double album before we hit the road again, and we know this just isn’t enough time to complete the project to our total satisfaction.
Although this last month’s tour of Australasia showed that a great Cure show is not dependent on a new Cure album, it has to be remembered that we hadn’t played Australia for 7 years, New Zealand for 15 years, Japan for 23 years(!), and Singapore or Hong Kong ever before – so the absence of ‘new’ songs in the set was not really much of an issue. However, we want to remodel/rework the live show for North America, change things around, incorporate new songs… and we need time and focus to do this.
So although we can agree it is a great shame to move these dates – believe us we have been looking forward to them more than anyone! – and know there will be a lot of disappointed people out there, we honestly feel that in the bigger picture we are making the right decision.
All tickets held for all 2007 North American Cure shows will be valid for the re-scheduled 2008 shows, and of course anyone who seeks a refund will be able to get one.
All validity/refund/rescheduling details will be announced as soon as we have them.
We are still going to headline the San Francisco Download Festival October 6th, and we will still be performing at the MTV Latin America Awards October 18th.
We will also play the three scheduled Sports Palace Mexico City shows October 20th/21st/22nd, as by this point we feel sure we will have finished the new album, and will be more than happy to start dropping a fresh song or three into the set each night…
Once again, our genuine apologies to anyone who is upset by this announcement - please be encouraged by our promise:
The Spring 2008 Cure shows will be even better than the Fall 2007 ones would have been!!!
See you all soon…
LoveRobert, Simon, Jason and Porl – The Cure 24/8/07

Fuck this. I was so pumped for the MSG show, and now I have to wait until Spring? Bullshit. I paid a lot of money for my ticket, and now I don't know if I'm going to be able to go.
The only good thing that could come of this is potentially adding keyboards to their lineup again. That might make it worth it.

I agree. Total BS. Have DC and NYC tickets, and who the hell knows if I'll be able to go to any of the rescheduled dates. This must be the third time they have delayed the record, so why they knew when they announced these shows that they would not have it ready to go. Makes no sense. Only thing I can figure is that the ticket sales were lousy, so they want to wait until a new album helps them sell seats. Ridiculous.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I was REALLY looking forward to this as well Haven't seen a full cure show since 2000 and have been waiting for so long! We don't need the new album just tour!

Yeah, keyboards, woo. Whining septics.
Posted by bob | August 24, 2007 1:59 PM
Well, I'd rather hear the Disintegration stuff with keyboards, the way it's meant to be played. Guitar can't take over for keyboards.

As long as they play a bunch of stuff from Bloodflowers, I'll be a happy boy.

yeah, ticket sales must have been embarrassingly bad if they postponed a tour of this size. i thought they were shooting a little high with the venue sizes. sucks.
Posted by Anonymous | August 24, 2007 3:25 PM
That seems weird. I heard they sold out a few of the dates, and I know they sold a lot of MSG tix. I checked the other day, and they only had single seats available.

the only reason they would do this is poor sales. why couldn't they have known in advance that their set wasn't right? why schedule a tour when you know that? they are hoping a new album would boost ticket sales. depends on the album.

If they are going to honor tickets for the cancelled shows at the rescheduled shows, and the tickets are for reserved seats, logically, they have to re-book at the same venues, unless they book the rescheduled shows at all-GA venues.

Why does everyone always have a conspiracy theory as to why the shows were postponed? Do you honestly think delaying teh tour till Spring which gives them time to put out a mediocore record and rehearse songs only diehards would want to hear is gonna boost ticket sales?

and Chile... when!!!

i think everyone except for BV missed the point here...who the fuck is their stylist?! find this person and shoot him or her. thank god simon at least keeps his shit together to a degree...but porl should not be let out of the house looking that. bob's just fat. and i never bothered to learn the other guy's name but he looks lame, too.
re: keyboards - meh...deadweight, but they'll probably have them for some songs where they can get away with one guitar.

oh look at that...his name is jason...it's right there in the letter.
sorry about that!

its not a conspiracy theory, its just their excuse doesnt make a lot of sense and/or seems like a lie to cover something more honest like you fucking fat americans didnt buy enough tickets for robert to buy more eye shadow

Eye shadow should be the last thing on a Britt's "to-do" list. Seeing a dentist should be top priority.

a-fuckin'-men

for a lot of artists I would assume this was a financial decision, but not Robert Smith. he is just the kind of guy to postpone an entire tour to tinker with an album. being a Cure fan is a labor of love, for better or for worse.

hehe, Porl looks like Belinda Carlisle....

It amazes me how whiny some of you are. It's a freakin' concert, not the end of the world. Gain some perspective, please!!!!

Personally, I think this updated band photo is a lot more palletable than the previous one plastered all over the internet (which was just embarassing!). Even though, I admit, that Porl's eyeshadow is a bit much, he looks a lot better than he did on, say, the Festival 2005 DVD, in which he was half-bald.

I've been a Cure fan since their 1st album and although I thought Wild Mood Swings and Bloodflowers were very weak, their last cd was pretty good. And what is the difference what "the real reason" they postponed their tour. Just go see them in the spring. Stop whining! Also The Cure never looked cool like all the other bands. I suppose they should all get faux-hawks and wear those silly white belts!

"I suppose they should all get faux-hawks and wear those silly white belts!"
better than dressing like a bunch of 16 year old mall-goths. I mean, JAMC are still looking presentable I don't see why these guys can't.

I think people have a right to be upset. However
may I remind everyone that the band is coming up
with a double album? All new songs? with the price
of a single album?
So give them a bit of credit here. Sure enough
they should have had thought of all this before!
But at least we are still going to see the show
and get a double album.
And it better be a damn good album.

fucking hysterical!
especially for all those yuppie lawyers who are reliving the days when they had more hair on their heads!

I know you're all Cure fans but gimmie a break... stop your whining and be patient. Just think of how much yoga and tofu you can get in before the tour.
Posted by Anonymous | September 7, 2007 5:09 PM
wait, what's wrong with tofu?

So the Oct. 8th show at Key Arena in Seattle was canceled, hmmmmmm....... that would have been nice to know before my wife and I put in an eight hour day of driving, made arrangements to stay in Seattle and gave up to days vacation each! Not to mention gas prices and the fact that we paid double the face value of the tickets, we were so excited to see one of our favorite bands of all time, wow....... what a let down!

Maybe it will give Robert Smith more time to get his fat ass on a treadmill.
