Thurston MooreTickets are now on pre-sale for a bunch of Thurston Moore solo dates that include a September 24th show at Maxwell's in Hoboken, and one two days later at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Thurston's new album, Trees Outside The Academy, is in stores September 18, 2007 on (his own) Ecstatic Peace Records.

It’s Thurston’s first solo outing since 1995’s Psychic Hearts. Of course, Thurston’s been releasing records here, there and everywhere mostly in the context of rowdy and rambunctious noise/improv escapades but this new one is killer diller SONGS! Unlike Psychic Hearts’ skeletal trio rock, this new jammer, 12 years post, has a far fuller bouquet of sonic depth and proves this Sonic dude to have a very real songwriting life outside of the legendary Sonic Youth (of which he is a founding figure, duh).

This newborn disc is 12 songs long. Thurston recorded primarily on acoustic guitar and bass, laying down the core of the tunes with drummer compatriot Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelly and violinist Samara Lubelski, a noted player from MV/EE and The Golden Road, Hall of Fame and other awesome gatherings as well as solo artiste.

also, no fun fest at the hook on october 13th:

this is still happening right? I heard a rumor about the hook closing but haven't heard any confirmation.

Sad news coming in a few weeks....

Posted by A Not So Happy Hooker | August 16, 2007 1:53 PM

new album is quite good

Aw, Hooker! Don't be such a tease! Is it serious? Is someone ill? Is Sonic Youth breaking up? The Hook closing?

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2007 2:15 PM

The Hook is closing at the end of October.

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2007 3:32 PM

Yep, the Hook is toast. I hear end of October (like the previous poster stated).

I went to purchase tix for this at the music hall of willysburg only to find that tix are ONLY available through Fucking Ticketmaster!!!!

THis is a huge problem. Ticketmaster generally charges a 'convenience' fee of nearly 30% of the ticket price and even charges you to print the tickets from your own printer.

BOWERY PRESENTS PLEASE STOP THIS MADNESS and deal with ticketweb or some other alternative!

Posted by Anonymous | August 16, 2007 3:41 PM

Ticketmaster owns Ticketweb, and my understanding is that Ticketmaster is keeping the Ticketweb fees intact for Bowery Presents shows(for now).

in every thread there is a senseless person like anon 3:41!

you can tickets here:-

Wow, sold out so fast!

Posted by John Paul | August 17, 2007 2:08 PM

ticketweb = worst case scenario. They charge you ridiculous convenience fees AND they lose your ticket. at least ticketmaster provides the service they overcharge so badly for...ticketweb you get the ridiculous fees but you have to assume you're never getting your ticket.
