I guess the kids DO stand a chance!

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 10:50 AM

they're pretty boring to my ears. good luck though

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 10:52 AM

A chance of being totally average over-hyped blog nonsense, yeah.

They deserve all the success they get! They're nice and not douchebags like CYHSY or any of those other "hype" bands.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 11:03 AM

they are pretty alright

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 11:21 AM

actually i must say they are douche bags.
i was at this party over the summer and they were boring conversationalists..too cool to talk to someone who was not their friend i guess.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 11:32 AM

this band doesn't seem ready for a record deal.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 11:34 AM

"divorced dad rock" hah thats great

i would say paul simon's spelunkers fan club

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 11:35 AM

The beasts live on!

Fetch the Vampire Killer, I must destroy this evil!

"this band doesn't seem ready for a record deal."

Since when does it take more than an EP that people are talking about to get signed?

Posted by Matt | August 21, 2007 11:56 AM

I just got off the phone with Mercury and they're opening for New Porn tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 12:05 PM

ugh. enjoy it while it lasts. these guys are shallow, self-centered pricks. their cache will run out by March.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 12:05 PM

oh dear, total assholes? "we are signed to XL" big whoop

where are they from?

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 12:23 PM

this band is great! and they aren't assholes either, everytime ive met them theyve seemed like really down to earth guys

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 12:30 PM

i just think its cool they're playing somewhere called "Buskirk Chumley Theater"

Posted by Joe | August 21, 2007 12:35 PM

wow, is this a high school chat room?

i thought that the blue cd-rom was phenomenal, it's good to see a band that's not ripping off the same 4 new wave and post-punk records as everyone else in new york.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 1:09 PM

these guys are NOT assholes - they go to my school, all nice guys, especially Baio.

lighten up you assholes

"'divorced dad rock' hah thats great"

Oo, like "Can I Borrow a Feeling?" by Kirk Van Houten?

"their cache will run out by March."

Their cache of what? Drugs? Guns?

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 1:38 PM

Supposedly Vampire Weekend is opening for the New Pornographers tonight at the Bowery Ballroom.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 1:40 PM

OMG THE BLOGOSPHERE!!! WHERE'S RAMESH

Posted by dudai | August 21, 2007 2:02 PM

saw these guys at union hall a few months ago. what a letdown, total hippy dippy claptrap. whiter than the new pornos

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 2:33 PM

Saw them at the East River Bandshell last Sat. They were alright, had lots of cute friends/fans dancing up front, but not sure how much more of a following they will garner off of home-turf. If XL signed them, they must hear/see something fresh about them (even if their sound resembles early 80's prep rock).

Vampire Weekend are really nice boys. They are not too cool to talk to anyone at a party, nor do they think they are. They are just waiting for nice people to come and say hi! Say hi, but not too nice, because some of them have girlfriends, you know?

Also, their music is so bomb and the lyrics are so clever. I get the impression that people on this blog are just pouring h8rade because they're MAD JEALOUS

Posted by Alex | August 21, 2007 3:11 PM

Carlton Banks is the only thing missing from this band, he would fit right in.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 3:46 PM

I like Vampire Weekend. They make me smile. Good for them!

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 4:01 PM

They're all really nice guys, especially Chris Baio who is a saint and they're not pompous at all.

Their music is refreshing and they're just having a good time. Listen all you Arcade Fire loving douchebags, stop being haters. Vampire Weekend are nice guys who make very pleasant music. Since so few of you actually know them don't talk about them so negatively.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 5:16 PM

they are also playing columbia university WITH THE CLIPSE.

Posted by spottidocious | August 21, 2007 5:52 PM

Personally I don't care if they're nice. Some of the best art is created by people you would never want to hang out with. In fact, I have AVOIDED musicians whose work I really love because I suspect the encounter would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

That said, I imagine Anon 11:32 is totally annoying. "Boring conversationalists?" I love that this passes for trash-talk in the indie world.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 6:00 PM

as a general rule, i hate everybody associated with columbia, including myself. but they seem nice enough.

BULLSEYE!!!

i've read a few writers say about this band: "they write perfect pop songs". just because it's simple as hell and gets stuck in your head with its 3 chords and melodies you've definately heard somewhere else doesn't make it genius. the barney theme song is not a perfectly crafted pop song. god only knows, however, is.

more music writers need to learn this distinction.

i don't really understand what the hype is about. did they do this in a week? i mean, they're already signed and have a record deal?

it's sort of cute, i guess. i think there is a lot more talent out there honestly. it just sort of bores me -- where is the music?

Posted by columbia06 | September 27, 2007 4:16 AM

see people, this is real music that makes sense...
