It's gonna be awesome!!! But the odds that they make it through all 20 dates before the MSG show without killing each other is slim.

Eddie Van Halen + Alex Van Halen + David Lee Roth - Michael Anthony ≠ Van Halen

Eddie is an idiot if he thinks this is going to work with his 16 year old son taking Michael Anthony's place. Michael Anthony was responsible for at least 50% of the vocal duties in Van Halen. All those high backing vocals, that's Michael Anthony. The fact is, David Lee Roth couldn't sing live even back in VH's heyday. Michael Anthony was there to carry Dave when he was too drunk/stupid/bad at singing to hit the notes himself. Without that net, and with Dave being 25 years older, they don't stand a chance.

Eddie fucks up yet again.

This is gonna be a train wreck of epic proportions. Sign me up!

on a positive note, Alex Van Halen will still probably sound excellent.

on a strange note, has anyone seen a picture of Alex Van Halen lately? he looks like an old black man.

FRX...it's amazing how squarely you've managed to hit the nail on the head (including the appearance of alex these days).
you've summed it up to a tee.

I will be at the first show, in the front row, of F1. I will be taking a banner that welcomes Wolfie.

I am grateful to be hearing and seeing Edward live. This is my thing. I get goosebumps and the hairs stand up on my arms.

I was so frustrated in 1981 and 1984 because I had crap seats. I struggled putting myself through college scrubbing toilets, and promised myself that someday I'd get to finish college and get a great job and all those sleepless nights working on homework and cleaning empty dirty apartments would pay off. All I wanted was good Van Halen seats. It just wasn't fair, I thought.

But I persisted and worked hard. Now, I'm not rich. But, I get my Van Halen seats. I have never since leaving college sat in a double digit row nor have been outside the span of Ed to Michael. Most of my concerts have been in row 2 right between Ed and Sam.

I have seen Van Halen up close, I have seen David Lee Roth up close, but I have NEVER seen Van Halen with David Lee Roth up close. That is, until now.

And because of that, and because of the hostile nature of their personality challenges, I decided I needed to be at the very first show, in the very front row. Just in case it all falls through, right?

Imagine, if you will, what it will be like being there, front row of the first show, lights down, five minutes before the show begins. The anticipation is beyond words.

What will the first sound be? Which song? Which instrument? What will be Dave's first move?

I know Ed will be smiling. I suspect Wolfie will be focused. I pray Dave does not do a 7 foot jump and hurt his ankles. Better safe than sorry there.

Yes, for many years I scrubbed toilets, and now I get to be where others who watched TV during those moments will not and cannot be. I hope that you sincere fans are not jealous but instead happy for me.

The backstage experience will be new to me. I do not expect to see the guys, for I would think they would be focused and a hint nervous. But if I do, I will have my 1984 and 1981 stubs with me.

This is my thing, and now I get DLR + VH front row at the first show. Thank you, God. Thank you.

This is a disaster waiting to happen. I would rather remember them in their heyday of the late 70s and early 80s. Eddie can’t play anymore and Dave can’t sing and there is always way too much DLR banter. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Just got back from Charlotte concert and it was loud as hell!! It was the most sober Ive been at a concert in a while. I will love to see another show to see if things get alittle more moving around the stage. Eddie and Alex were top. Wolfgang was good but just sat there. Probably will move alittle in the tour. Diamond Dave was good, but not the old Dave and probably jump alittle more coming concerts. He looked alittle too happy and upright. The band as a whole was on it great. Sound is great and would go to many more shows. They will get better and better and that is so scary. Daves voice cannot carry as it used too, but he looked great and sang is ass off. Van Halen is back!

You can speculate whatever you want about the incorporating Wolfgang.
After seeing the show last night in Boston and seeing how much energy the band demonstrated it someone made some good decisions.
With Eddie's playing and Dave's showmanship it was a very very very good concert. Vocals were dead on. Didnt hear 1 negative from people leaving or on the train ride home.

david lee roth doesnt have that good a voice....i saw hime back in 84 and was shocked how lame he sounded compared to the album version....talking not singing....whats up with that in live concert????
I really liked their album but was dissapointed when I saw them in concert....well....davids voice quality...

Went to the VH Washington DC show. Great seats thanks to my boyfriend's last minute snag of tix, which ended up being next to the Eddie side of the stage. I thought Eddie sounded pretty good. Wolfgang not bad for a chubby teenager who looks just like his mother. Alex, on cue and energetic - especially for a really old dude.
But DLR? WTF? He kept messing up the lyrics and for the most part he sounded like crap. Not to mention he seriously looks like he is suffering from the latter-stages of HIV. I'm not kidding people, it was sad and I honestly had to divert my eyes most of the concert. Though his body is slim and in shape, his face is very sunken and his cheeks sallow. I seriously hope he is feeling ok. At one point I saw him go behind the set and bend over at the waist as if throwing up.
Wish I could've just remembered them they way they were in 81 when I was 13..... Oh well, enjoy.
