Two days in a row you neglect The Mae Shi! :)
They're at Silent Barn tonight with Meneguar.

after the jump festival looks like a pretty good line-up... yay for bling kong!
Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2007 3:23 PM
The After the Jump festival is pathetic. The lineup is so/so (most likely all friends of the organizer) and the "better" ones play INSIDE studio B.

My g/f is dragging me to Tegan & Sara. My kinda scared that I'm actually gonna enjoy myself.

"My g/f is dragging me to Tegan & Sara."
That should be good toward a blowjob + facial. Relationships are about compromises.
Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2007 6:02 PM
Agreed. But the "facial" part is taking it a bit far.

beastie boys mccarren tix are back on sale...
Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2007 6:35 PM
tegan and sara were great, but that was the worst crowd i've ever had the displeasure of dancing in
Posted by brian | August 2, 2007 9:17 PM
overrated gigs that no one "cool" would even consider attending, except to come here and tell everyone how much they sucked - 1. the police 2. beastie boys

shock cinema was so bad that I left before trail of dead.
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 9:23 AM
Trail of Dead kicked serious ass... even sans bass player
Posted by Ron | August 3, 2007 9:39 AM
did anyone else think that shock cinema was horrible?? Why did I have to wait an hour to hear that heinous noise?
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 10:06 AM
TOD lost another bass player? Are they still back down to one drummer?
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 10:14 AM
Yeah, Shock Cinema not so good....except for their drummer. He was totally killing it. TOD was great except for all the douchebags trying to start a mosh pit near the front.
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 11:24 AM

shock cinema was pretty bad. cut-rate YYY's ripoff, i thought. that chick seemed like she got her dance moves from studying karen o. i wasn't into them at all.
TOD did have 2 drummers for several songs, anon 10:14. for some reason i wasn't too impressed by them. seemed to have no energy, i was expecting a lot more craziness. i left when he said they had a few songs left, it was pretty disappointing.
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 11:25 AM
tegan and sara were great but the crowd did kind of suck.
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2007 11:51 AM
"TOD was great except for all the douchebags trying to start a mosh pit near the front."
Particularly the one douchebag with the backpack. What a shithole. I still stand by the fact that TOD were great considering the new drummer and all. He sounded surprisingly good. I still don't get why their bass player, who is in Shock Cinema, didn't play with them. The bass parts were all done on keyboard..
Posted by Ron | August 3, 2007 11:58 AM
I too was a little baffled when I saw the bass player in Shock Cinema but not in ToD. Conrad's voice was a little off last night, but it was great to hear "Let It Drive" which is somewhat of a rarity. To the poster above that left before the end...never leave before you hear "Caterwaul" and "Will You Smile Again for Me". Those songs bring the energy (and were the last two before the encore; although their energy level was definitely toned down overall last night vs. previous shows).
There were a couple people with backpacks on last night. Honestly, why in the hell do you have a backpack at a show? ToD went on at almost 11:30pm. Do you really not have time to drop it off at home? Or leave it at work?
Posted by CN | August 3, 2007 12:10 PM
Trail of Dead were okay. I was pretty exhausted and, admittedly, I don't care about their last two albums.
I didn't mind Shock Cinema, but that show seemed really drawn out.
Posted by Devin | August 3, 2007 12:13 PM
Devin: You're exhausted and you don't care for the last two albums...this begs the question... Why are you at the show in the first place?
Posted by CN | August 3, 2007 12:31 PM
Because I figured they would play some songs from the first three albums, which ended up accounting for half their set. It was also just $5.
Posted by Devin | August 3, 2007 12:40 PM
FYI: I wasn't at the show (I have seen TOD many times).
"TOD was great except for all the douchebags trying to start a mosh pit near the front."
I don't think a full-on most pits are fun, but some slam dancing is great at shows. Especially songs like Totally Natural, gets the blood going. Then again, I am blessed with good genes: tall and fit. Maybe less-fit people have issues with mosh pits.
"Honestly, why in the hell do you have a backpack at a show?"
I 100% agree. Sometimes people look like they just came back from climbing Mt Everest.
One of the best shows I have ever seen was Explosions in the Sky and Trail of Dead at Bowery Ballroom. Unfortunately, TOD don't have that energy anymore which is why I skipped last night. But I still won't count them out.

When the one lone asshole slam dancing is treating a fun crowd like a mosh-pit, yeah, it's a problem.
Also, about your "good genes: tall and fit" I'm very glad you're so happy with yourself. Fitness has nothing to do with some jerkoff ruining a show.
I was also at that Bowery Ballroom show. It was near perfect. But how could you pass them up for five bucks?
