Keyspan Park (CRED)

August 9th is finally here, and it's a tough one...
* The B-52's play a free show in Coney Island
* Daft Punk, The Rapture, Kavinsky & Sebastian are at Keyspan Park in Coney Island
* Daft Punk & Rapture afterparty @ Studio B
* The Hold Steady, Teenage Prayers & The Big Sleep are free in Prospect Park
* The Beastie Boys play their first Brooklyn show @ McCarren Pool
* The Black Crowes are at Central Park Summerstage
* The Cribs, White Rabbits & Foreign Islands play Bowery Ballroom
* The Cribs afterparty w/ Oppenheimer @ Annex
* Los Campesinos!, Nous Non Plus & Golem are @ Mercury Lounge
* The Budos band are at Joe's Pub
I can't even make the choice because of the last minute trip I ended up taking to Norway. I would most likely be at Daft Punk though, and i'm feeling a little bad for missing that, and the Beasties, and Hold Steady. I hope it doesn't rain!
What else?

As a token to all of us OCD/neurotic/nitpicky readers, could you grant us a boon? You see, every time you do one of these posts, my mind always reads it as: "WHATS GOING on Thursday." I think what you're trying to say is, "On Thursday, What's Going On?" or "What's Going On, on Thursday?" - a simple solution to appease us nuts? Start adding a colon.... ex. "What's Going On: Thursday."
I realize I am crazy, I'm cool with that.

Posted by jason | August 9, 2007 10:21 AM
Called the Keyspan box office and they were not able to say what time Daft Punk was scheduled to take the stage. Seemed like they simply didn't know. They did say that doors open at 6:00, for you folks willing to wait in order to get close.
Here are the times from a recent show:
DOORS AT 6:30 PM
Sebastian & Kavinsky -- 7:00 to 8:00
The Rapture -- 8:00 to 9:00
Sebastian & Kavinsky - 9:00 to 9:30
DAFT PUNK -- 9:45 to 11:15
Whether S&B playing twice is the norm, or was just for that show, I don't know.

they went on a little after 8 last night - no opening acts. and they fucking rocked.

Once again-- does anybody know what time the Beasties go on?
Posted by irmavep | August 9, 2007 10:40 AM
the rapture sent out a myspace bulletin saying they're on at 7:30. leads me to believe daft punk is on at 9.... curfew at 11.

ObsceneNYC.com has a party bus going from Williamsburg to Daft Punk and back.
$35 round trip, that's about $17 each way to not worry about parking/cabs/ or one hour train rides from Coney Island. BYOB it's a friggin' PARTY BUS.
Leaves @ 7, email me now. wayman[at]obscenenyc.com

also Garland of Hours (Mary Timony), Shortstack, Airwaves, Zeke Healy @ Cake Shop Thurs. nite.

Ticketmaster said doors for daft punk were at 7:00 in my event reminder email. Are they 6:00 or 7:00?
Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 11:28 AM
Does anybody know what time people are going to stop asking for fucking set times?
Just go to the fucking show. The openers would love to play for you.
Posted by Camp Tiger Claw | August 9, 2007 11:33 AM
so confused- why would websites (bowery presents, oh my rockness, ticketmaster) post doors opening at 7 if the show starts at 6. wouldnt doors open at 5 then?? definitly thought show wouldnt start until 8. daft punk going on at 9:30. thought it would be more like 11. we wont be buzzed enough by 9:30.
Posted by Amanda | August 9, 2007 11:33 AM
Thanks, CTC. Your keen insight is very valuable. Did it ever occur to you that people might have to work late and don't live in Brooklyn? I would love to get down there at 5 or 6 and see all three bands but it isn't possible. I want to make sure that I'm there for THS.
Posted by Joe | August 9, 2007 11:37 AM
start drinking earlier
Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 11:37 AM
Joe,
Yes that has occurred to me, and I'm not gonna get in a flame war because we're both THS fans.
But it's a free show. Just go after you get off work. You'll have fun, and you'll totally get to see them. I promise.
Posted by Camp Tiger Claw | August 9, 2007 11:43 AM
Rapture goes on at 7pm...Daft is on at 8:30 for a 10 oclock curfew.

"What, like 16 comments in and no mention of how the Hold Steady suck? c'mon guys and gals, you're slipping!"
I am actually proud of the BV readers right now. Instead of seeing a free show, they prefer to see better acts, even at $50 a pop. Quality comes at a price. Good for us!
Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 11:51 AM
not to mention that hold steady has played nyc like 18 times this year already.. and daft punk plays approx. never. this is a no brainer
Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 11:53 AM
DeLeon is going to do it right.
Posted by spumoni maroni | August 9, 2007 11:55 AM
I heard Hold Steady is going on at 4pm. You people will never make it if you're coming from work. If you want to catch the band, leave work NOW. Especially if you're coming in from Manhattan. And while you're at it, make sure you start drinking on your way out the door, to ensure you're properly buzzed in time.
Posted by Matt | August 9, 2007 12:00 PM
Do they put seats in the pitch area at Keyspan or is it just a free-for-all?
Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 12:01 PM
despite the fact that all of the hipsters and corporations and high rents will eventually ruin all of new york, but in particular coney, i am going to the daft punk show and will try to have a good time, despite being surrounded by all that is killing everything that is good in this city. i mean, i can remember going to coney back in the day, when it was cool. now...forget about it.
i just called the stadium. doors are at 6p, first band goes on a 7p, they said there is no definitive must be done time.
thus, my predictions for set times:
7p - 7:30p kavinsky / sebastian
7:45 - 8:15 kavinsky / sebastian
8:30 - 9:30 the rapture
9:45 - ? daft punk
Posted by hipster for life! | August 9, 2007 12:01 PM

Posted by natalie n | August 9, 2007 12:07 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 12:09 PM
Bowery Presents is handling the Daft Punk show. I'd hazard a guess that the set times posted by anonymous at 11:14a came from them... but you can always call the Merc Lounge b/o and double-check.
Posted by J | August 9, 2007 12:15 PM

Anon 11:14 has the official set times for Daft Punk correct. Whether or not they follow those times is a different story, but I will be hauling ass to get there in time for the Rapture at 7:30pm.
Posted by CN | August 9, 2007 12:38 PM
I'm skipping all that to see Incubus and the Bravery at Jones Beach. Sure their last two albums kinda blow, but you cant deny they're great live.
Posted by bludevil007 | August 9, 2007 12:39 PM
Incubus over Daft Punk will be the most ill-advised decision you make all year.

I called Mercury Lounge and they said Daft Punk was going on at 10pm.
Dunno if the guy is sick of taking phone calls on the subject, or if that is legit.
Sorry to confuse matters more, but it is what it is.

An actual serious question: are all the subway lines that go to and from Coney running ok today?
Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 1:51 PM
what time do cribs go on and what time do white rabits go on? also, what time do they finish. and how much time between encores is there, one encore or 2? this also applies to the beastie boys, daft punk, the hold steady and the black crowes. just so i dont have to stand around waiting and go hit those baloons they give away on 71st street right inside the park.
thanks.
Posted by nyc noise fan | August 9, 2007 1:53 PM
I think most of us are just worried about getting out to Coney Island in time, hence the stressing about set times. I mean, would it kill Bowery Presents to publish them on their site? More important, does anybody know where I can find a sexy poncho? Duane Reade only has "youth" sizes.

Note: PARTY BUS
I've been getting a lot of questions.
-There are still seats.
-Group rates are negotiable.
-Pick Up/Drop off is near Pete's candy shop off the Lorimer L. 15min walk across the park to Studio B if you're doing the afterparty
-Leaves at 7pm

Both Weather.com and NY1 don't think rain will start until after midnight, which is incidentally when the F train will start getting all goofy. I'm personally hoping Daft Punk ends nice and early (11'ish) for plenty of time to escape tornadoes and G train transfers.

Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 3:15 PM
As of right now, the chance of rain isn't really significant (40%) until 10pm, and it steadily increases from there. Not ideal, but I don't expect it to "pour" on DP's set. Don't be such an alarmist, 3:06!

if you took a look at the weather map - it's pretty apparent that the rain is coming right for us and will be here before 10 - and it doesn't look like theres any way for it to miss us either...

Lifehouse?! Please spare us the faux-indie snobbery! I saw the Rapture play Mirror in a basement in front of 20 people in '99 but you don't see me braggin.
Oh wait, maybe I just did.
Point being: get over yourselves and dance! It's gonna be awesome!
Posted by Anonymous | August 9, 2007 3:29 PM
Jeez, 3:24. I'm glad I'm not going to the concert with you. Though it's neat you can actually read and interpret weather maps. I let the weather channel do that for me, and they say don't sweat it til at least 10. Maybe you should just give your ticket to some poor soul who's missing out. Or better yet, get a poncho and hope for the best!

The Rapture posted a bulletin on Myspace announcing their set time as 7:30pm:
"The Rapture play at 7:30pm tomorrow at the Sold Out Keyspan show, so make sure you get there early to catch their set!"
So I would guess that anon 11:14's set times are right. Let's just hope there's not too much rain!

Hold Steady brought it last night. Very entertaining. Very impressed with what I saw. It was probably their biggest gig in NYC and it was for FREE! Can't beat that. "Stuck Between Stations", "Chips Ahoy!", "You Can Make Him Love You", "Your Little Hoodrat Friends" were my favorites, but the last two songs they played, and they way they blended one into the other and then extended the last song for like ten minutes!...... Brilliant!
Also, did anyone see the elderly/80 yr. old+ couple there? Bless their hearts, that was awesome.

Yes! I was standing next to the 80-year old couple the entire night. They both fell asleep during the Big Sleep's set, even though the Big Sleep was AWESOME!
Hold Steady was also great but the Big Sleep always plays a great set.
