Wolf Parade @ Warsaw, the Download Festival, Tour Dates
Wolf Parade @ Warsaw, Brooklyn, NY - Aug 19, 2007 (CRED)

It felt like forever since I last saw Wolf Parade - it's possible it was. I'm glad though, because everything they played last night at Warsaw sounded so fresh. Actually, a lot of it was. They played a bunch of brand new material that gives me high hopes for their new album (which according to Dan's calculations should be done by now). We also heard all the hits, and everyone was going nuts - lots of energy in the room. I drank one too many Polish beers. Great show.
On Saturday (one day earlier), Wolf Parade played seven songs in a parking lot at 4pm (Dan said "am", but it was "pm") as part of the Download Festival in Boston (a festival that did not sell out). The setlist from that show names five of the new songs. Modest Mouse, Guster, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Apollo Sunshine also played the festival - so did Neko Case, Band of Horses and Bang Camaro.
The next Wolf Parade-related NYC shows are the Sunset Rubdown ones in October. Tickets are on sale. Wolf Parade are in Philly tonight. None of them - not even Handsome Furs - will be back for CMJ. More tour dates, below....

Great energy and the new songs are great but the sound was once again pretty bad. The energy from the Wolf Parade and the crowd was good and a the encore was excellent. i enjoyed the opening band, Plants and Animals as well. fun show but bad acoustics....

Sooooo pumped for their Philly show tonight!
Hopefully the sound at TLA Theatre on South St will be ok, never been there before...is the venue comparable in size to Bowery? Or is it more like a Webster Hall?

We don't meet again BV.

the show was great. really upset i had to leave before the encore to catch my train back to jersey. can anyone hook me up with the songs played for the encore, or the whole setlist if anyone has it. the new songs were fantastic i thought. really excited about the upcoming album. dan boeckner is the fuckin man.

Was it just me, or was there noticeable tension between Spencer and Dan last night? The setlist offered an even balance of spotlight between the two, but that didn't stop dan from shooting spence a dirty look ever time the mustachioed one made a comment.

Best damn live indie band out there.
Posted by MDK | August 20, 2007 11:32 AM
I was actually surprised that they seemed to be gettign along really well; they actually are supposed to be fairly tight (despite Dan's frequent comments that he's the "other guy in Wolf Parade"). I think the dirty looks were aimed at the sound folks who had an absolutely brutal night.

man, the new songs are absolutely rubbish as was the fratastic crowd last night.

Ah, 12:16... how I was hoping someone would post something with the word "frat" in a snarky response to this show.
I won't even begin to venture a guess as to what "kind" of person you are, but the categorizing of people that attend indie shows is the lamest form of commentary I can think of. Whether the a kid is "fratty" and has a polo shirt and hat on, or is (as I'd imagine you are) some loser who's convinced himself that having a haircut that would make his father ashamed is SOOO UNIQUE, everyone's got ears. Chances are, the fratty dude dances more than you do, anyway; you probably couldn't see him too well through your bangs.
Get over it. Everyone likes music.

"man, the new songs are absolutely rubbish as was the fratastic crowd last night."
Already too cool for Wolf Parade I see...new songs sounded great if you ask me. Sorry the crowd wasn't "indie" enough or whatever for you. I'll take a frat boy over your holier than thou hipster ass.

it was interesting in that the new songs seemed clearly to be either very Dan or very Spencer written/driven songs - and while the new material lacked the more cohesive Wolf Parade spirit of the original songs - the new stuff really shone in a more fleshed out way - whether it be shorter poppier Dan driven songs or epic 12 minute Spencer overtures. Great stuff though - can't wait to see how it turns out in the studio.
The Sunset Rubdown LP is one of the best of the year.

thanks bv for the link to the site...i thought the new stuff was incredible...it sounded so tight...this was their 3rd show of the tour and it didn't seem like it at all...can't wait for this abum...and i have to agree with 12:37 that the new sunset rubdown is damn good!

as previously mentioned, wolf parade sounded awesome. can't wait to hear the new album, heard some interesting influences in there - lots of 80s, a little bit of prog, i swear there was even a fleetwood mac-y part.
they even made the terrible audio at warsaw sound good. i mean seriously, i like reverb as much as the next guy, but i don't want to listen to the echo of a rock show.
the audience was really into clapping to the beat.

last night's show RAWWWKED warsaw. everything about it was incredible - the new songs, the old songs, the crowd's energy, spencer's mustache. the new album is going to rule 2008 - i cant wait to throw it on at my frat's christmas formal and do a 12-minute kegstand to the new 12-minute song!
Posted by fratastica | August 20, 2007 1:00 PM
I am totally going to make my pledges learn all the lyrics....VERBATIM of course...or else they'll have to do hella amounts of push ups, bra!!!!
Posted by D | August 20, 2007 1:56 PM
yes it was amazing. but what? they didn't play all their hits. they didn't play MODERN WORLD and that was just cruel.
Posted by cashew | August 20, 2007 3:41 PM
Did anyone catch the name of the skinny kid who was on for about 20 minutes?
Posted by Eric | August 20, 2007 3:54 PM
show was great. 7 new songs were great. they're still killing it.
Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2007 7:22 PM
Yeah, who was the guy who came out, screwed around on his MacBook for 20 minutes playing noises and half-singing in French and English, then nonchalantly walked off?
Posted by Eugene | August 20, 2007 8:22 PM
That was me. I saw an opportunity to get onstage and I took it. Gave the polish security $20 and he let me run with it. Just me and my ibook. Now I can say that I opened up for Wolf Parade and I totally killed that night.

the crowd WAS littered with first year ibankers and it was VERY EMBARRASSING for everyone. Wolf Parade sounded great, a lot better than when I saw them at some NYU auditorium two years ago.

the kid that opened is called Noot...

wasn't there a band before Wolf Parade, not just somebody with a computer? Who were they?

"the crowd WAS littered with first year ibankers and it was VERY EMBARRASSING for everyone. Wolf Parade sounded great, a lot better than when I saw them at some NYU auditorium two years ago."
I must have missed something here. Why exactly was everyone embarassed? Again, I'll take a first year investment banker over some putz who complains about the crowd in a blog the next day.

Is there some rule prohibiting people with jobs that are not "in the industry" from liking music? From what I remember, my interest, taste, etc... was mostly developed while in high school or college, long before I realized that I also didn't mind being employed and being able to pay rent on my own.
Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 9:00 AM
I work in a record store and i hate it when these investment bankers want me to tell them what to listen to and tell them what to wear.
I don't go to their job and ask them which gold-digging princess i should marry.

Quit accepting their business then if it bothers you so much. And I would bet $1000 that they don't ask you what they should wear. But I guess it sounds better to say when you are trying to rant. Get over yourself.
Posted by CN | August 21, 2007 9:23 AM
Easiest $1000 i would make.
Maybe I should tell you what to wear, parading around in that gimp outfit like that.
Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 9:33 AM
so wait....my taste in music is as good as yours, but I have more money, a bright future, and a nicer apartment? Yeah, I'll take that.

Oh, boy. I'm almost HUNGRY for someone to counter with a "Mommy/Daddy" comment. It would really be the perfect cliche ingredient to this idea that as a hipster, all involved are above conformity. Laughable.
Posted by StopCrying | August 21, 2007 11:41 AM
"Mommy"? "Daddy"? No we're not too interested in what you scream out in the bedroom.
Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 11:48 AM
Ba-Zing, 11:48!!!
That comment would lead me to ask that you not wake your own Mommy and Daddy up when you get in tonight.
Posted by StopCrying | August 21, 2007 12:07 PM
Ok, now that we know you are being led somewhere, does your slave master also require you to wear a leash and chain?
Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2007 1:38 PM
Since you're being led around does your slave master make you wear a leash and chain?

Come on, people! A couple more comments on the master/slave dialectic, and then from Hegel to Nietzche, and we'll be back to Beethoven in no time!
You know, anon 9:07, I doubt a gold-digging princess would marry you. Unless, of course, you "work" in a record store, but most of your income comes from a trust fun...
