7 World Trade Center conspiracy theories, Nick Lowe tonight

DOWNLOAD: Larry Silverstein on 7 WTC demolition? (WMV)

7WTC"7 World Trade Center, a building in New York City, is located across from the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan. The name 7 World Trade Center has referred to two buildings: the original structure, developed in 1985 and the current structure. The original building was destroyed in the September 11, 2001 attacks and replaced with the new 7 World Trade Center, which opened in 2006. Both buildings were developed by Larry Silverstein who holds a ground lease for the site from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. [Wikipedia]"

Lou Reed, Brazilian Girls, Suzanne Vega, and others, helped celebrate the opening of the new 7 World Trade Center in May 2006. The Hold Steady, Old 97's, M Ward, and others played (and are playing) free concerts there this week.

Free concerts are good, but is real estate developer Larry Silverstein? Not acccording to the many conspiracy theories floating around.

Larry Silverstein, the controller of the destroyed WTC complex, stated plainly in a PBS documentary that he and the FDNY decided jointly to demolish WTC 7 late in the afternoon of 9/11. In the documentary "America Rebuilds", aired September 2002, Silverstein makes the following statement;

"I remember getting a call from the, er, fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, 'We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.' And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse." [What Really Happened]

This of course is in sharp contrast to the official story, which is that the building came down on its own.

Larry went on to convince the courts that the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center was in fact TWO ATTACKS. That means he profited on 9/11 by collecting 3.5 billion dollars in insurance money TWICE - for a total of 7 billion dollars. More on that conspiracy theory and/or fact (depending on how you look at it), at What Really Happened.

Nick Lowe plays a free concert at 7 World Trade Center tonight (Sept 19, 2007).

I echo the comments above. Let's keep this junk off of music blogs please.

bv- i like you but this is the dumbest post you have ever written. why oh god why give a forum to these idiots? after they disrupted the monday show yet. shame on you.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 11:17 AM

C'mon...we all know by now that OJ was the real culprit behind this...

Posted by J. Ito | September 19, 2007 11:19 AM

Yeah, nothing destroys your credibility quite as effectively as stepping on people's feet, disrupting their view of an otherwise pleasant show, AND thinking you're important enough to have to dopes follow you around with video cameras.

I can't wait to buy the DVD.

Posted by WJPurdy | September 19, 2007 11:21 AM

The decision to "pull" would probably refer to getting the firefighters out of the building since they couldn't contain the fire. I don't see how this is "in sharp contrast" to the official report in any way. But why are we discussing this here anyhow?

Posted by Bobby | September 19, 2007 11:39 AM

LAWL.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 11:49 AM

I just wonder if Nick Lowe is going to sing "I Made An American Squirm."

I think "We're discussing this here" because it is a music venue, and a very very strange one. You can't pretend there's nothing creepy about seeing a band try to rock while staring out at an empty, flood-lit pit of dirt surrounded by barbed wire. The decision to have shows here is VERY STRANGE.

Posted by switchboard susan | September 19, 2007 11:57 AM

Well, there goes's BV's credibility.

Pull yourself to this: http://www.debunking911.com/pull.htm

Of all the 911 conspiracy theories, this is by far the most likely.

I need a kamera, you wanna know why?

Posted by nnnarnnnnar | September 19, 2007 12:11 PM

Yes after the 2 towers fell the FDNY went and got enough dynamite to rig a building and blew up 7 WTC. The people that believe in this shit are the same people that keep Star Trek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer on TV...kill yourself.

Daddy cant hurt you anymore...

Jews did 9/11, therefore indie rock did 9/11.

They hate us for our post-punk influenced twee pop.

Posted by Chris | September 19, 2007 12:29 PM

Give him a break... it's his blog!

It's pretty hard for some people to fathom that all of this could have happened without some intervention by a third party. That Debunking 9/11 link explains things quite well though.

Posted by Mark B. | September 19, 2007 12:33 PM

There are definitely more than a few unanswered questions about 9/11 but I'd hardly call it a conspiracy....
Though I would like an explanation of how some many cell phones seemed to work on airplanes that day ??

You got to be kidding me.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 12:37 PM

dickballs, i think the point the conspiracy theorists are trying to make is that all 3 buildings had explosives planted in them before the planes crashed into the buildings. therefore, what they are trying to say is that all three buildings were taken down by controlled demolition instead of the impact from the planes.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 12:39 PM

Please no...I love this site so much, but the 9/11 truthers are the people who make me the angriest in the world.

9/11 truthers say that "pull" is a demolition term for demolishing a building. It's the main tenet of their argument. However, that's just not true. The term "pull" has never been used as a synonym for "demolish." It meant to pull firefighters out so that nobody would get hurt when the building collapsed, as it was beyond saving.

But what does any of this have to do with music, anyway?

if anyone has an interest in suggested conspiracy theories, i highly recommend this movie - chk it.

you don't have to believe the conspiracy theories, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. Close-minded people need to relax.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 12:54 PM

"This of course is in sharp contrast to the official story, which is that the building came down on its own (after getting hit by a plane)."

Who ever said 7 WTC was hit by a plane? You don't do much for your arguments when you can't get the facts straight, BV.

Posted by [rolls eyes] | September 19, 2007 12:56 PM

ps - to the haters - im not sure what is right / wrong - but just give the movie a watch...it's 1+ hr commitment, but thought provoking, interesting, and [fckin] creepy.

"you don't have to believe the conspiracy theories, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. Close-minded people need to relax."

This has nothing to do with being "close-minded" and everything to do with these people being utterly ignorant and detestable.

"Who ever said 7 WTC was hit by a plane? You don't do much for your arguments when you can't get the facts straight, BV."

Good point, except the part about the "arguments". Just thought it worth noting (in light of these free concerts) that 7 World Trade Center and billionare Larry Silverstein are pretty controversial topics.

Didn't know this post would be so controversial though!

mistake fixed, thx!

I think everyone can agree that there are more questions that need to be answered when it comes to 9/11. After all, think of how many investigations there were in trying to finding out the details of the Kennedy assassination.

"The 9/11 Report," should not be the end all be all of explanations. There should be a few more private investigations done in the years to come. If we had just went off from the Warren Commission back in the early 60's, think of all the details we would be missing.

The fact that George Bush and Dick Cheney testified together, in the same room, without any transcripts or any sort of recording devices in the room, is really interesting. Why would our leaders feel the need to hide their testimony to the public they are supposed to be serving?

I think many people in the "truth movements" are just searching for answers that the media never really thought to answer themselves.

Posted by Tovar | September 19, 2007 1:17 PM

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but mine is that this is the stupidest thing that I've ever read on here.

Many prior comments already explain that the "pull" comment was a reference to the firefighters.

As for the insurance, the insurance companies agreed to provide "per occurrence" insurance totaling $3.5 billion. Two separate juries decided that for some of the insurers, the two attacks were one "occurrence" for insurance purposes and for others, they were two "occurrences." The total insurance recovery is about $4.5 billion (not $7 billion). That money is going to rebuilding the site, which will cost a lot more than that. The insurers, by refusing to pay, delayed rebuilding.

Now that that's out of the way, does anyone want to talk about the hard-fi album?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 1:53 PM

"Why would our leaders feel the need to hide their testimony to the public they are supposed to be serving? "

Becasue the real scandal of 9/11 is that the Bush administration didn't take terrorism seriously prior to 9/11, ignoring warnings from people like Richard Clarke who told them bin Laden was a serious threat to the US. And it's people like you who let Bush off the hook for it by spouting the same tired consiracy theories that have been debunked over and over again. (Good call above on www.debunking911.com; also try http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/11818067/the_low_post_the_hopeless_stupidity_of_911_conspiracies at Rolling Stone, of all places).
All the 9/11 "truth" movement has done is allow Bush and his defenders to paint anyone who questions the very serious (and very real) errors by the US intelligence community (and Bush himself) as idiots and flakes. Read a book like Lawrence Wright's The Looming Tower if you want to learn about 9/11 and stop flooding the public discussion of that day with fantasies.

"The fact that George Bush and Dick Cheney testified together, in the same room, without any transcripts or any sort of recording devices in the room, is really interesting. Why would our leaders feel the need to hide their testimony to the public they are supposed to be serving?"

Not because they were part of a conspiracy to bring about the events of 9/11, but because their (mis)administration could have prevented 9/11 but fucked up and did not do so. That's the truth they wanted to hide.

No. People like you need to stop blaming Bush for everything. Bin Laden and al-Qaeda were around before Bush. They tried to blow up the WTC in 1993 and then they bombed embassies in 1998. Why wasn't Clinton taking terrorism seriously during that period especially when we had bin Laden at least once with a chance of taking him out? This new generation of extreme left wing idiots in America drive me insane. Here is some reading for you (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4540958/).

Posted by CN | September 19, 2007 2:14 PM

All you indie yuppies should be grateful that Silverstein and the feds decided to blow that shit up. I mean, didn't you all take the opportunity to invest some of your trust funds in some stocks that became criminally undervalued after the sharp nose dive the stock market took post 9/11? It's not his fault that the 10 to 15 percent dip in prices of condos and coops in Tribeca didn't make it to Sillyburg and Greenpoint, but he did his best.

Hey BV, did you hear about the missing nuke? Apparently the planned bombing of NYC for Sept. 14 has been rescheduled. Please be headed for Times Square!

"Not because they were part of a conspiracy to bring about the events of 9/11, but because their (mis)administration could have prevented 9/11 but fucked up and did not do so. That's the truth they wanted to hide."

Again. All you people do is blame Bush and Cheney. Where is the blame for Clinton? Why no backlash there? Bush was only in office for 18 months prior to 9/11. Clinton had 7 years after the first WTC bombing to take care of the situation.

Posted by CN | September 19, 2007 2:16 PM

Anon 2:02 posts the real "truth". The month-long vacation in Crawford TX in August 2001 (ignoring all intelligence of the pending attack), the 7-minute delay reading My Pet Goat after being informed the nation was "under attack", and the fictitious Iraq-Al Qaeda connection used to justify the Iraq War are all real scandals.

The ironically named 9/11 "truth" movement (people who psychologically actually "can't handle the truth"), are laughably easy strawmen used to divert any criticism of the real scandals.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 2:18 PM

oh god, no, please no. can you delete this whole fucking thread please? this shit is giving me a heart attack.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 2:20 PM

Of course I am skeptical of anything being portrayed as "the Truth." I don't subscribe to any sort of ideologies really.

That being said, Bush/Cheney at the very least, let 9/11 happen. I believe that another investigation is warranted just to expose the massive "fuck up" that happened on that day.

Why is a plane even allowed to get that close to the Pentagon? You would of thought that of all places, the Pentagon would of been able to defend itself from any sort of incoming attack.

By ignoring the information provided by the intelligence we had then, Bush/Cheney should be held accountable, for again at the very least, sleeping on the job.

Posted by Tovar | September 19, 2007 2:25 PM

"Why is a plane even allowed to get that close to the Pentagon? You would of thought that of all places, the Pentagon would of been able to defend itself from any sort of incoming attack. "

What in the hell does this mean? Have you ever flown into Reagan airport? Commercial airplanes fly close to the Pentagon in and out of Reagan every day, all day. Is the Pentagon supposed to have some missile defense system of its own because it is the Pentagon? You think the Pentagon should just shoot down a close plane over a densely populated area if it is suspicious? Mercy. You are an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 2:31 PM

2:31 - Well considering at that time they had known that there was highjacked planes still in the air. Theoretically,if a plane ever got that close to the White House, you don't think we would of already had scrambled an f -16 to take it down?

Why were there no f-16s scrambled, given at the time of the Pentagon attack, we knew that 2 commercial airlines jets had crashed into the WTC? By then, they should of known that there was probably more hijacked aircrafts flying around, why not protect the Pentagon and the White House?

did you guys know that ticketmaster owns ticketweb? golly.
and what's with that singer from deerhunter? jeez!

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 2:48 PM

Bradford Cox, the lead singer of Deerhunter, has Marfan Syndrome, which would explain his "look," and maybe some of his behaviour.

The music he makes with Deerhunter is stellar.

well I don't know about all that nonsense, but can we talk about that singer from the hold steady for a minute? what a bore! and talk about a bruce springsteen ripoff - don't even get me started!

I saw Brooklyn Vegan eating a cheesburger at DuMont.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 3:25 PM

2:42 - F-15s were scrambled at 8:40am. Shooting down a commercial airliner isn't instantaneous.

CN: Clinton had one hand tied behind his back politically because any military action he took (or might have taken) was criticized (or could have been criticized) with accusations that he was trying to get the attention off the Lewinsky scandal (you know, "wag the dog").

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 3:46 PM

BV, do you know why the "Truthers" are so pathetic? They are trying to convince you that the greatest conspiracy in the history of the world was carried out (and concealed) by the same group of people who took 4 days to get a bus caravan into downtown New Orleans. Think about that.

"CN: Clinton had one hand tied behind his back politically because any military action he took (or might have taken) was criticized (or could have been criticized) with accusations that he was trying to get the attention off the Lewinsky scandal (you know, "wag the dog")."

Wow. So Clinton didn't take action against bin laden when he had the chance because he was afraid of media criticism? Glad we elected him to lead our country. I really hope you don't believe that. I am not a Clinton fan, but I certainly don't believe that he would be that irresponsible as to make decisions of that magnitude based on how the media would portray him and his personal life...especially in his second term. In general, I believe that the President has an unbelievably difficult job and they do their best to protect this country (whether Republican or Democrat). I just get tired of left wingers putting the entire blame on Bush when Clinton had 7 years to get the job done after the first attack.

Posted by CN | September 19, 2007 4:08 PM

Fine, CN, then what do YOU say Bush and Cheney wanted to hide from the public and the historical record when they "testified" (if you can call it that) in front of the 9/11 comission?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 4:19 PM

4:19pm - I don't know. And for that reason, I don't make assumptions and run my mouth off about conspiracies. The biggest reason that it was private was probably due to the sensitive nature of the material discussed. The commission took notes and put out a report to the public with the information they deemed important. But, I don't like to accuse people of things when my only basis is that a conversation was private.

None of this changes the fact that Clinton had 7 years after the first attack to do something and Bush haters are too bull headed to admit that (because it is hard for them to comprehend facts rather than conjecture).

Posted by CN | September 19, 2007 4:42 PM

Oh...and Clinton's testimony (as well as Gore) was also done privately.

Posted by CN | September 19, 2007 4:46 PM

CN : Clinton and Gore at least did it separately. But Bush/Cheney I guess had to be in the same room to corroborate the same bullshit together.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 8:01 PM

More interesting then WTC7 is the fact that a few of the supposed hijackers turned up ALIVE, and NONE were on the flight manifests that were released after the attack.. The only evidence that Mohammad Atta was even on the flight was his passport that was found ON THE STREET, yet they werent able to recover recordings from the flights' black boxes because they were damaged too much...... The list goes on and on and on people if your open minded check it out! Theres a ton of bad, mis-informed conspiracy theories out there but some of it is realllllyyy compelling

Posted by broorno | September 19, 2007 9:06 PM

" The only evidence that Mohammad Atta was even on the flight was his passport that was found ON THE STREET......"

Well, that and the security camera that actually filmed Atta getting on the plane.

I fid it incredibly amusing that the same people who yell and scream about everyone else being so "fooled" watch one movie or read one article on the internet and then take every claim at face value withou bothering to do 10 minutes of research on their own.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 9:13 PM

Does anyone actually believe that our government is being totally honest with us about everything that happened on 9/11?

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 10:39 PM

I think AIPAC and Zionist lobby is directly responsible for the attacks on 9/11. If you see who has gained the most from the attacks on that day it has been the Zionists. They really need to be scrutinized in more detail.

Posted by Jonny Q | September 20, 2007 3:32 AM

I think people will remember 9/11 like they did Pearl Harbor. Just as Roosevelt allowed the attack in 1941 - therefore getting us into WW2 for the greater good - Bush will be praised for faking the WTC/Pentagon attacks as finally getting the US into a war with Islam, again for the eventual greater good.

Posted by sven | September 20, 2007 9:53 AM

The laughable claim that Clinton could not do anything, is as moronic as the conversation I had with a lib coworker, who claims that any weakness in military power was the fault of "W" or his dad. That, while Clinton was "The best president we ever had", he was powerless to do anything to strengthen the military because the first Bush made all the budget cuts. Let me see...the first Bush cut the budget, and the second Bush didn't take steps to correct that, and Clinton for eight years, could NOT do anything to fix the problem.

The question that remains is how could Clinton be totally powerless as a result of the first Bush budget cuts, yet still be the best president we ever had? Apparently being totally useless and impotent in office is a major 'plus' and sign of greatness in the minds of democrats.
