Cocorosie @ Oya

You may have spotted CocoRosie marching down West Broadway at the 2007 Deitch Art Parade this past weekend - one of them at least (and one of the few who were fully clothed). And thanks also to Deitch, you'll be able to see Cocorosie perform for free in NYC on October 6th. (More tour dates at the end of this post).

Cocorosie @ Oya

The last time I saw the Cassidy sisters perform was while attending the Oya Festival in Norway last month - that's where I took all the pictures in this post. They, their human beatboxer, and band played to a large, appreciative crowd (aka not Americans who don't really dig them as much). It was the second day of the four-day festival (Thu August 9th), and it was hot - really hot...

hasn't america officially said "fuck off" to coco rosie, I thought we did a few years ago with the giant turd that is NOAHS ARK...why must we still here about them, it's not like Brooklynvegan is all about europe and their shit taste these days. Let's the frenchies have the cassidy sisters, because we can clearly see through their transparent bullshit

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 3:12 AM

Ugh, so f'ing useless. Can't they please just go away.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 6:53 AM

noah's ark was awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 8:45 AM

Do we just show up for the free show or are there tickets involved? The myspace didn't seem to give too much in the way of details...

B-O-R-I-N-G

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 9:24 AM

Is Fred Dirst their stylist? How expressively creative...

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 9:29 AM

now if only America could say "fuck off" to closed-minded douchebags who feel the need to proclaim their hatred for anything they don't understand.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 9:39 AM

they were fun for a minute- all the cute children's toys and all, but they are annoying, boring, and their music ain't my thing. but boy are they cool. they MUST live in williamsburg, i mean when they are not living in france...

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 9:49 AM

Let me guess: hetero guys making the hate comments above because... somehow the Cassidy sisters make them uncomfortable?

"Noah's Ark" was a great record and Coco Rosie's appearance at the Carnegie Hall Freak Fest in February was a highlight. So if you get your shorts in a jumble over Coco Rosie - then that's your problem.

Geez, her gut is bigger than Britney's.

Posted by Snarky McSnarkerson | September 11, 2007 10:24 AM

and what is that shit on her eye? dare i ask?

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 10:28 AM

any word on the time of that show?

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 10:33 AM

Well, as disinterested as you may be, they've created something, anything, new. They have sold more record than most of Brooklyn hype bands. If ya don't like their cooking, stop showing up for dinner.

Posted by Papa J | September 11, 2007 10:36 AM

Damn, if you think the hetero hipsters are a tough audience, check out where their free show is being held--a fucking housing project. That event is going to be a hugely entertaining train wreck.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 10:54 AM

Strike that. Deitch Projects is a pretentious art gallery. They'll do just fine there.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 10:56 AM

Yup, just fine.

"Deitch Projects is a contemporary art gallery in New York City founded by Jeffrey Deitch.
Since opening with a performance by Vanessa Beecroft in February 1996, the gallery has
presented nearly one hundred and eighteen solo exhibitions and projects, ten thematic
exhibitions, and a few public events. The gallery's best known projects include:

* "I Bite America and America Bites Me" a 1997 performance in which Oleg Kulik l
ived in the gallery for a few days as a dog
* "I Peed in the Northeast Corner of the Gallery," a NeoFluxus anti-revivalism installation
lasting 27 seconds"

must say. i understand them. i just dislike them. boring. boring. they take art rock to the point of pointless masturbatory dumb rock.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 12:21 PM

I love all these defensive people saying "hetero hipsters", I'm a gay male and think coco rosie is full of shit. And they are rude bitches too.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 12:27 PM

yea, but what is that sht in her eye???

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 12:30 PM

yeah, "hetero hipster" my ass. i'm a lesbo and i think they are bullshit boring, "too cool for school" rich kids.
their first album was kinda refreshing. everything else, blah, zzz... and they run with that willyb retard crowd. what is with that?

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 1:11 PM

and the painted on 'stache + construction hat, so wacky.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 1:12 PM

hey, lets dress down to not clue people in on the fact that we come from money and are results of supreme breeding.

Posted by nick | September 11, 2007 1:21 PM

that last picture is just gross

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 1:33 PM

As much as everything they've done for the last few years has been ridiculously pretentious and horrible, and they're both spoiled, jet-setting rich brats, it's pretty awesome that their style has devolved into looking like blunt-smoking meth addicts from suburban ohio.

I can just imagine these girls passed out on the wall-to-wall carpeting, in a cheap condo behind the strip malls, while their 'thug' boyfriends play xbox shirtless on the couch, listening to 50 cent, all coming down from a long weekend of 'partying' in that same shitty apartment.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 2:52 PM

who cares how retarded they are - that has got to be the best rat tail i've seen in AGES

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2007 5:53 PM

haters gonna hate, Ghosthorse & Stillborn is still terrific and if Pitchfork had told you to like it you'd have fallen right in step

Posted by Anonymous | September 14, 2007 9:33 AM

«haters gonna hate, Ghosthorse & Stillborn is still terrific and if Pitchfork had told you to like it you'd have fallen right in step»

MY WORDS EXACTLY!

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2007 4:38 PM

I think most of you people who are dissing them are just dissing them to have something to say on a forum. You probably listen to sh*t like Lil Wayne and Rhianna or some horrible stuff. But let me guess, you don't listen to stuff played on the radio.
I love these girls and am very excited to see them again.
Now im gonna get on my bike and get a late' in williamsburg cause i MUST do things like that since i like cocorosie.

Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2007 3:28 PM

rich? i dont think so. maybe NOW that they've enjoyed some success. from one "lesbo" to that other one, i can't believe you don't think they are hot. Have you seen their by my side video? sisters, lovers, who cares, they're hot

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 8:35 PM

Man is there alot of jealousy on this page.
Why don't the haters out of this bunch just chill out. i like cocorosie, and if you
don't just fuck off and write positive crap about YOUR favorite bands.

Posted by trina | October 3, 2007 4:14 AM

Man, you guys are vicious. I've never seen Coco Rosie play, and I'm interested in seeing what goes down when I do on Oct. 6th. Maybe they are rich and spoiled--I don't know alot about their personal life. I don't mind what they do musically--it's pretty alright if you ask me.
I guess since I've gotten a bit older, I've urged myself not to indulge in politics of scenester opinions.

Im from argentina my english is not that good but i'll do my best. I think you just have to be tolerant to different musical proposals. I think they are investigating different areas of music, and thats respectable. Its true that it can be boring for some ppl or maybe "annoying". Its ok. If its not YOUR music style theres no problem, but you gotta be a lil more tolerant, excercise that or sth, because the truth is that they are both good musicians, they have a great musical education. if you dont share their style, at least respect them and others...

Fail. You're an idiot for thinking Deitch is a housing project.

i'm from barcelona, Spain, and cocorosie brings me a lot of new things and feelings. i think they're special. they make me believe in mystical creatures and that's a good for humans in this age that we are.

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2008 7:56 AM

if u doing like em why are u leaving a comment on an article about them? why don't u go listen to a third eye blind album and lip-sync in a mirror to hide your self hatred. i am a fan of this music. i don't hang out on the internet trash commenting on ur shitty music. leave my shit alone fools. thank you and please stop hating on things u cant conquer or copy. boo hoo. not everyone can be as cool as u. i like to drink water does not mean i want to become water.
