Bear Hands - a Brooklyn band, an EP & 2007 Tour Dates

Bear Hands

Back in May, L Magazine told us to listen to Brooklyn's Bear Hands. Well, it took me a while, but now I'm listening. In fact, I I've been listening to their 4-song (two of which are streaming on MySpace) EP a lot lately.

Why Bear Hands now? Partly because a friend (thx Greg) sent me the "Golden" EP (which is actually not out until November 13th), and partly because I noticed a recommendation by Oh My Rockness, and furthermore because of all the shows Bear Hands have been playing lately, and will be playing in the future - one of which is tonight (Sept 7) at Union Hall in Brooklyn with Aloha (who, by the way, played the "NYU Mystery Concert" last night with Beirut and Ted Leo), and three of which are part of an upcoming Pianos residency. Check their MySpace for more details, or see below for exact dates too....

Bear Hands - 2007 Tour Dates
Sep 7 - Union Hall w/ Aloha Brooklyn, NY
Sep 11 - Piano’s (Residency) w/ Cale Parks (from Aloha) New York, NY
Sep 18 - Piano’s (Residency) w/ Spirit Marines New York, NY
Sep 25 - Piano’s (Residency) w/ Boy Crisis New York, NY

Wait, is it some kind of rule now that new bands have to have "Bear" in their name?

you must have bear or wolf in your band name to be hip..

Don't forget Deer (-hunter, -hoof). Jesus. Lay off the fucking animals. Try planets, minerals, insects, crustaceans. Just change the shit up, kiddies.

Saw Bear Hands last week at Piano's and they were great... amazing in fact when you consider they've only been going for a year. Reminded me of the time I saw Kings Of Leon before they released anything... their performance was beyond the size of the venue they were playing...

I just have to say how frustrating it is to try and enlighten people through music when bands like this are getting this much attention. Ive been a student of music for a long time, having attended an anonymous prestigious college for music, and its recycled crap like this that ruins the industry for honest, hardworking, devoted individuals like myself. How many times does a Mozart have to die in a puapers grave so that a Salieri can galavant around in his goofy underwear and neon tops?
