Bjorkestra is an amazing collection of jazz talent. Download and sample some of their live performances on my site--two complete concerts from earlier this year.

I was really excited to see the Bjorkestra because I'm such a huge Bjork fan, and who doesn't love big band jazz.
But it was one of the worst live music experiences I've ever had. The arrangements are really lazy and boring and there's nothing interesting going on at all. And a woman sang some of the songs. Badly. I was so disappointed in the whole thing. Bjork's work has always been about boundaries and newness and innovatioin and the Bjorkestra is about lame imitation and flattening out the things that make Bjork's music exciting in the first place.
I really dig on some of Bad Plus' covers because they bring something new to a song, but Bjorkestra was just like bad elevator music.

Wow, I really don't know how to respond to that, except to say that you have an opinion, I have mine, and hopefully we can agree to disagree.
I host the Bjork Hub, so I have heard probably more live Bjork music than just about anyone on the planet not named Bjork.
Personally, I've seen Bjorkestra 3 times, and I went to the first show with a certain amount of trepidation and some cynicism. At the end of the first time I saw them, I left completely impressed with the originality and the freshness of the arrangements. Some of the songs are fairly straightforward, but some arrangements, like Pluto, Show Me Forgiveness, and Cocoon in particular, are clearly new approaches to the same music.
In terms of the "female singer". She's terrific. She doesn't try to sing like Bjork, and she's also put her own stamp on the songs. Check out her version of Its Oh So Quiet from the last concert posted on my site. Terrific stuff.
