"Broken Social Scene plays Kevin Drew's Spirit If" ??? ------------2007 Tour Dates

Not everyone agrees that the recent Kevin Drew "Spirit If" show at McCarren Pool was really "Broken Social Scene". One anonymous commenter wrote:
it's a joke to say broken social scene was there. just because there are members of the defunct band doesn't mean it's still bss. kevin drew played his new shit. and it should have been billed the whole time as kevin drew. it would've been a letdown to come to see bss and then get that. it wasn't bad, but i just don't see why it was billed as bss when it was kevin drew.BSS or not, they're keeping the billing - "Broken Social Scene plays Kevin Drew's Spirit If" is going on tour. "...but i just don't see why it was billed as bss when it was kevin drew."
Simple, BSS sells tickets. Kevin Drew would be playing the Merc without them.
Personally, I think it should be billed Kevin Drew and The Broken Social Scene Band.

Considering BSS is in theory only Kevin Drew & Brendan Canning plus whoever else happens to be in the band...they can call it BSS.
Personally, I'll miss Andrew Whiteman/Charles Spearin/Ohad Bentechtrit and all the other regulars, but the songs are still great.

D.D.D. Dave hit the nail on the head -- BSS is Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, and whoever else is available at the time. People too easily forget that BSS is a "supergroup," meaning that many of their members are frequently involved with other, highly successful projects (Feist, Stars, Metric... need I go on?).
And annoyed fans should also remember that bands typically play sets designed to promote their most recent release. If you've seen The National lately, then you know they're only playing material from Boxer and Alligator these days -- nothing from their first two LPs or EP.
And finally, a little bit of history: Broken Social Scene originally planned to release a double album, half written by Drew, half written by Canning. But Drew finished his half first, so they released it as "Broken Social Scene Presents..." I'd bet this were Arts + Crafts promotional idea (and a smart one!) before I blamed Kevin Drew.
Bottom line: When Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning are on stage, they can call it Broken Social Scene. Just ask Oasis, The Beach Boys, or countless other bands... whether you like them or not.

to all the complainers out there:
in order to enjoy shows, try not to show up with preconcieved notions of how you WANT it to sound, and I guarantee you will have a better show.
And, BTW, the Webster Hall show is the sickest i've ever seen from BSS. Really, And it was definitely a BSS show, NOT a kevid drew show. So i know that contradicts the previous reviews, but believe me, this show was for real. I think one of the drum machine/synth machines broke and it caused them to do a more spontaneous set list and they played like crazy. So on point I just don't know what to say. You know when you go to a show expecting a mediocre performance and then get blown away? That was the webster show. Awesome. I feel for all those out there who didn't make it.
