Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 5:38 PM

i cannot believe that i forgot about this.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 8:17 PM

The show was pretty good. Hold Steady played an hour long set.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 8:30 PM

Pls tell us when they went on

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 9:00 PM

Why do you care? It's over.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 9:41 PM

how about letting us know when the set began and ended, so I know what time to get there to see m ward tomorrow.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 9:50 PM

They hit the stage at about 7:30.

Posted by Greg | September 17, 2007 9:58 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 10:28 PM

can't wait for people to stop giving a shit about this crap band so I never have to see his ugly face again

"how about letting us know when the set began and ended, so I know what time to get there to see m ward tomorrow."

Instead of being so lazy, why don't you just show up at a decent hour? Reminds me of the time people missed out on the Spoon show because they were too lazy to go out in the rain and kept on asking "is the show cancelled?". Just go. Step away from the computer and go outside.

i was there, they were terrible. finn complained about the critics from the stage. this is the guy who has the nerve to criticize the doors. fuck you man! fuck you. and please, PLEASE remove Brooklyn as your myspace location, you are a disgrace to our borough.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2007 11:56 PM

They didn't compain about critics, craig was referrencing one of their songs (most people are DJs). The dude is a total goof ball on stage, but they've got a lot of talent and some of the best lyrical content in music today.

A recording of the Hold Steady set will be up on my site within a few hours.

"Instead of being so lazy, why don't you just show up at a decent hour?"

listen, bub (or bubbette), some of us have lives. I have a daughter that I need coverage for if I am going to see Nick Lowe and I need to tell the babysitter what the needed hours are, if you must know. "What time did they go on?" needn't be an excuse for snide remarks. But oh yeah, I forgot, this is an internet comment board, what do I expect?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 7:35 AM

...and thank you Greg for the straight answer.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 7:37 AM

No, you are just lazy. Lower Manhattan is a clusterfuck in terms of traffic, you are going to time things by the minute? You might miss the whole thing.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 8:02 AM

Illinois: 5:40 - 6:10
Old 97s: 6:25 - 7:10
Hold Steady: 7:28 - 8:31

The Hold Steady recording is now up on my site for direct download.

Anyone notice this?

FRANZ NICOLAY (of the Hold Steady) / CANON BLUE / GATES OF HEAVEN at Union Hall, October 8 ??

Posted by Jack | September 18, 2007 9:58 AM

How were the 97's? IMHO, they are one of the best live bands I have ever seen.

Posted by Kurt C. | September 18, 2007 10:00 AM

lets be honest finns stage demeanor can be a little annoying. I think i would have enjoyed the show better if it wasnt for having to watch his antics. and yeah people either love em or hate em. This guy doesnt have NYC vibe because he grew up listening to shitty classic rock. we grew up listening to NYU Radio or Fordham or even Seton Hall stations, or at least most people I know listened to college stations. And on his myspace he says he is against "new wave" then and now? I mean wtf? this guy has no leg to stand on against people criticize cause he dishes it out as well.

btw- id say illinois was the best band (though i only caught the last half of the set, Old 97 was the worst.) actually the worst were those 9/11 protesters but thats another story. It did feel weird to be at this concert considering we were about 100 feet away from where so many people died. it felt kind of like having a concert in a graveyard. the singer from old 97 even commented to that effect.

I probably am lazy, but that is not the point.
I actually have a job and I don't want to
leAve work early to wait around for 3hours for the
show to start. Howmany times do shows like this start late.
thanks for the info

"Howmany times do shows like this start late."

Uh, free outdoor shows are actually almost always punctual.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 11:34 AM

the shows downtown are run pretty tight.
the time they show is usually the time they're on.
I'm talking about the South st. seaport, Rockefeller park, world financial center and the wall street rising series. I've been to most of these shows since I live in Tribeca. only time that screwed me was Spoon. I got there early hoping for a seat, nope, no seats set up and of course, it poured for 2 hours. I went home to change and go back missing 2 songs.
this is not like the old days when the headliner comes on at 2am.

Yeah, then they played "Timebomb" for their last song, right? Ouch.

I am a pretty big Old 97s fan but they really weren't on last night. I don't think they were getting great vibes from the crowd since they were mostly there for the Hold Steady. The guitar mix was bad for both the 97s and Hold Steady.

Didn't see Illinois, but I thought the Hold Steady were great - forgiving the sound mix issues.

Posted by Zach | September 18, 2007 3:48 PM

Hold Steady were great, got better as their set went on. They seemed a little freaked out by how inappropriate and macabre the location was. Craig started to talk about it, then changed his mind. They hauled ass out of there and blew off the encore, can't blame them. Get there early for Nick Lowe, it's hard to see in back.

"Hoodrat" was even better than usual. "Killer Parties" had a harmonica solo. Great guitar at the end of "DJs." "Southtown Girls" and "First Night" still dead spots.

The crowd was terrible. No fun at all. Rhett MIller used to live down there and wrote a moving article about his horrific 9/11 experiences, so you can't blame him for being freaked out by the location. Everybody was.

"so you can't blame him for being freaked out by the location. Everybody was."

I wasn't, so don't throw around the "everyone" word so freely. There are other places to go besides Williamsburg. Some of us live and/or work in Lower Manhattan.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 11:04 AM

11:04 maybe we should take a poll? ok im not freaked out to go there to work or see something in the wintergarden even. But this show, it did freak me out. It kind of made me think what will happen when this development is finished.

and yes Rhett Miller the singer for Old 97 mentioned that it was his first time being back since 9.11. I just cant imagine what was going through his head.
