Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder's debut solo album, the soundtrack to the film Into the Wild, is out this week, along with long-awaited debuts by two singer-songwriters I have followed for some time, Placelessness by Alina Simone and Kismet by Jesca Hoop. Kevin Drew releases his solo debut disc, Spirit If..., as well, and Hard-Fi drops their sophomore effort with the "No Album Art" cover, Once Upon a Time In the West, in the US.
Nothing Is Free by Corn Sister Carolyn Mark is alt-country at its husky-voiced finest, and Fog's Ditherer keeps rocking itself into my CD player...
Discs I haven't heard yet but am highly anticipating include Jamie Cullum's In the Mind of Jamie Cullum, the Green Pajamas' Box of Secrets: Northern Gothic 2, and Jana Hunter's Carrion. Are these worth picking up?
Have I left anything noteworthy off the list? What new music releases can you recommend this week? What should I avoid?

not even a boldfaced mention of Les Savy Fav's newest?!?!?!?!?!?!
wtf

The Jamie Cullum disc is a compilation of tracks he likes from different artists, plus 2 new tracks of his own. Kind of the like Back To Mine series. I didn't know if that was common knowledge or anything, but I didn't expect it... then again, I didn't even know there was a new Jamie Cullum release at all until I saw it in the store this morning! (There were a decent mix of artists on there though.)

Jesus, I can't stop listening to "Hard Sun" on Eddie's new album. What an amazing song!
Kinda sounds like Rusted Root.

New Akron/Family is wonderful, like some have already said.

Is saying it sounds like Rusted Root supposed to make me want to listen to it?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 4:25 PM
Nahh, just making an observation. Personally, I was a fan of Rusted Root and never understood why they got so much heat. I thought their last album (Welcome to my Party) went under the radar. I'm also a big percussion guy, so maybe that had something to do with it. Just makes me wonder how much more famous they would have been if Eddie was their lead singer.

One of the free downloads this week at the iTunes Store is "Rainin' In Paradize" by Manu Chao.
