Led Zeppelin"The concert is expected to coincide with the release of a new two-CD best of compilation, Mothership, on 13 November." [BBC]

"Shepard Fairey, the artist/designer/illustrator who created the Andre the Giant Has a Posse sticker campaign and whose artwork graces album covers for artists like The Black Eyed Peas, 311, and the Smashing Pumpkins, announced last Friday that he has been commissioned by Led Zeppelin to design the packaging for their forthcoming Mothership greatest-hits collection." I wish they had chosen someone less monotonous to do the art.

the reunion tour will feature alastair crowley on black magic channeling john bonham's ghost on drums

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 10:31 AM

Posted by John Bonham | September 12, 2007 10:32 AM

too bad it will only be in the UK

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 10:34 AM

can pink floyd open?

Posted by hipster replacement | September 12, 2007 10:50 AM

I thought I read that Dave Groehl was going to drum. UK only? Yeah right.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 10:51 AM

this will totally suck, i guarantee it.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 10:52 AM

Does anybody remember laughter?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 10:55 AM

been a long time since they rock and rolled

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 10:59 AM

plant hasn't been able to sing or at least hit a high or low note since the mid 70's why would anyone waste their money.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 11:05 AM

As a graphic designer, I have to disagree with their choice of Shepard Fairey to design the album packaging.

You're fired. Pack your shit.

LZ were terrible live back in their heyday, why would they be any better now?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 11:54 AM

"LZ were terrible live back in their heyday..."?! WTF?! They definitely inconsistent but have you heard "How The West Was Won"?

I saw a few of the Page & Plant shows and while some were simply good, their last MSG was incredible (Page was apparently sober as opposed to the first time through).

Two words for the drummer for this:
Joe Russo.

Dave Grohl ain't a bad option either, but hopefully he'll be busy with the Foos rocking across the world.

Been listening to a bootleg from San Diego '75 show recently - quite tasty stuff. These guys were a very tight live band - even Bonham's 20 minute solo was fascinating. But without Bonzo - t'aint the same.

Posted by drewo | September 12, 2007 12:36 PM

jason bonham is playing the show.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 12:42 PM

The only thing that could make this any better is a reanimated zombie John Bonham.

I can dream, can't I?

I agree with the Joe Russo comment, however.

Anyone who has seen Bustle knows...He's the closest thing to Bonzo that we have right now.

Posted by Johnnybreakbeat | September 12, 2007 1:20 PM

Who gives a crap about this band, seriously. They're tied for the most fucking overrated band in history.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 2:38 PM

Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater should be the drummer!

Posted by Loop | September 12, 2007 2:46 PM

"this will totally suck, i guarantee it."

As hard as your mom sucked Plant's cock back in the '70s?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 2:57 PM

Mike Portnoy would be fine for a Rush tribute band but for Led Zep no way! The man has no soul on the drums and would fill over everything..

Groul however would be a great choice..

The drummer debate begins and ends with this guy: Michael Lee.

"plant hasn't been able to sing or at least hit a high or low note since the mid 70's why would anyone waste their money."

What???? You've never seen Plant live, obviously.

Also, that guy's mom most definitely sucked Plant's cock hard back in the '70s.

Doug the graphic designer: you do NOT have a posse.

"What???? You've never seen Plant live, obviously."

+1

Ok, the new greatest hits album needs to be promoted and a little tour will refill the coffers that depleted in the 90s...so I understand why they're doing it.

What I'd love to know is what the members of the band would think about the reunion tour if you told them back in 1974 that they'd be doing it. Would they have been psyched that they're still out there rockin it, or would they be grossed out by the idea of their 60 year old selves trying to relive the past? I don't really have an answer or even an assumption of an answer. It's just something to ponder.

Posted by anon | September 12, 2007 3:54 PM

Richard Christie should be the drummer.

Posted by Kurt C. | September 12, 2007 4:02 PM

Richard Christy would be perfect!

Sal the Stockbroker could warm up the audience, too!

what the hell, get Beetlejuice on stage to play keys on "No Quarter"

I'd go see that..

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 5:38 PM

i guess it really makes you feel proud to talk bad about my mom like that? it really hurt my feelings, thanks for ruining my day.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 6:01 PM

I second the Sir Joe Russo nomination.

Bustle in Your Hedgerow is the best thing you're going get compared to the real thing... and that's never going to happen without Bonzo.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 6:11 PM

Meg White on drums, it'll be just the thing to cure what ails her.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2007 6:42 PM

IF they use synths and not the real deal it will suck.If they play soft it will suck.No balls no not suck.
20 years to late!

The new artwork for this album is really unimpressive. Fairley re-used his design for the SXSW poster from 2006. WTF is up with those arrows?

I mean, you'd think he would have spent some more time on a project of this magniture.... we're talking Zeppelin here.

I mean, his design for the 311 album seemed more thought through and was way more interesting. And he no doubt took home some big bacon on this project.

The design is really uninspiring, and I'm a fan of much of his work.

Two thumbs down. Shame on you dude.

As far as the reunion shows go, yes, it will never be the same as mid-70s Zeppelin, but it will still be pretty damn cool.

Grohl would be a great choice, but here are hundreds of other drummers of his caliber, they just aren't as famous.
