So while the Black Lips were busy puking on stage, marching and whatnot....

Beirut played a free secret show at Coco 66 in Greenpoint last night and completely wrecked the place! They played a drunken 1 1/2 hour set (including one “pee break”) of new and old songs to prepare for their three upcoming NYC shows. You can catch them tonight (9/20) at The Brooklyn Masonic Temple in Fort Greene. More photos of the show can be found here. [Obscene NYC]Beirut's new album The Flying Cup Club is officially released on 4AD on October 9th, 2007. La Blogoteque recently took a trip from France to Brooklyn to tape a take-away-show-style video for every song on that album, and so far four of them are available for your listening and viewing pleasure.

Wow, no one leaked that info on here yesterday. Who knew about this?
BV did you know about this show beforehand and not tell us?
I say all non in the know people boycott the upcoming Beirut shows. Let the few weasly hipster insiders go to all 3 shows which would fill about 1/4 of the venues.

limited tickets to the fiery furnaces show were on sale at other music, and it was actually mentioned - before the show took place - on a couple of other local music sites. hardly a big secret!
Posted by eddy | September 20, 2007 1:15 PM
the fiery furnaces wasnt invite only, info on how to get tickets was included on the other music newsletter, which i'm pretty sure a good amount of people on this board subscribe to.

Ringo seemed wasted.

The last video was a cover of "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. I guess it is almost a requirement for bands/singers of a certain ilk to cover Lenny C... This (Beirut's) version is nice... I am sure they spent a lot of time listening to his records.

Beirut is an over-rated one-trick pony.
Posted by anonymous | September 24, 2007 10:31 AM
Am I missing something?? Or am I just not cool enough to like this guy? I think he's overrated! the lil' dude can't sing! "uhhhhh,,yyaaa yaaaaa....the lights go oonnnnnn, the lights go ooonnnnnnn......breeeaathtaaaking......"
and dont tell me I "just don't get it", because I think Postcards from Italy is a great song, but he hasn't got it right since. I went to a show of his at the troubadour and the horns are loud and all but the gag gets old. Reinvent yourself Zach!
oh shit i just realized this site is called brooklyn vegan...well that explains it, if you live in brooklyn and you're a vegan and/or hipster then you gotta like Beirut.
