New Bohemian shot dead by girlfriend's neighbor

Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians

Dallas musician Jeffrey Carter Albrecht, who was a member of the band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, was shot to death early Monday morning after trying to kick in the door of his girlfriend's neighbor, police said.

The neighbor, who has not been identified, was asleep in bed when he awakened around 4 a.m. to his wife screaming that someone was breaking into the house, according to a police report. The neighbor yelled through the door for Albrecht to leave and then fired his handgun through the door. [Houston Chronicle]

Not as big of an asshole as he apparently was. Karma, baby.

Hey Wackamole, he was breaking in because their place was on fire and he was trying to get them out. Jesus.

Yeah, sounds like he was a real hero!

"Published and broadcast reports quoted police saying that Albrecht beat up his girlfriend and then tried to kick down the neighbor's door in a drunken rage. The couple had no history of domestic violence, but the girlfriend had bruises on her face, police said. She did not suffer serious injury.

Albrecht apparently struck his girlfriend in the face several times and hit her in the back once she fell. She later managed to lock him out of the house, according to the reports."

Link me to where you found your information that he was trying to save his neighbor because the house was on fire, and I will personally castigate myself for 10 minutes. Everything I've searched and read said he beat up his girlfriend. And that makes him as soulless cockwad.

Hey, "Huq Emmhornes," WTF did we other 49 states do to Texas to deserve getting George W. Bush sicc'ed on us?

For what it's worth, Carter Albrecht was a highly respected and loved member of the Dallas music community. There are aspects surrounding his death that have not been addressed by the media which may offer significant insight into why, by all accounts, Albrecht acted in such an extremely uncharacteristic manner:

His girlfriend has also posted a statement indicating that she believes that Carter was very literally not in his right mind and unaware of what he was doing when the tragedy occurred:

It's easy to scan a news story and flippantly toss some pithy comment up on the web, but at least know that perhaps there's a possibility you may not have all the facts. Who knows what further investigation will bear out, but until then, maybe you should try to be a little more judicious before dismissing someone as a wife beater who's just getting his comeuppance.

Yo Anon--I was a-bein' poorly sarcastic with my comment. I fucking HATE Texas politics.

Enough of the people in the enough of the "other 49 states" (the red ones) adopted evangelical christianity, which was enough to put w in office.

Before you stomp on his grave, apparently this guy and his girlfriend had just started to quit smoking and took the new anti-smoking drug Chantix. The couple were on the last dosage of the cycle which is supposed to be the heaviest.

He had no records of violence and according to his girlfriend he didn't even remember hitting her moments after doing it.

Chantix apparently can make you psychotic after mixing it with alcohol - perhaps you should examine the drug before making this guy out to be a villain.

Chantix...sounds great, can i get some in tompkins square?

Hey, Anon. 9/5 11:31 AM, the only state whose teat Dubya suckled on is Texas.

i've said it before and i'll say it again:

i still like edie brickell. ghost of a dog is a good album.

The dude got what he deserved. Would you be crying for his neighbors if he beat them to death in a drunken rage. It's not their fault he couldn't handle his liquor. Yeah, blame it on smoke patches. Point is, he's not famous enough to do wacky shit like that. In the real world, common folk get capped for kicking down doors. ;)

I know it's like been 3 months since this story has been posted but I just have to say, UGH! People who know nothing about nothing making ridiculous fucking comments. Yeah, karma is a bitch and I sure as hell don't want to be around any of you when your karma comes around who have made heartless and ignorant comments about this man's, whom you know nothing about, death.

Hey Anon 11-31

Look up every Chantix instruction manual. It says in boldface DO NOT TAKE WITH ALCHOHOL. At autopsy, Albrecht's BA level was O.29- Over three times the limit(0.8) for DUI. This guy wasn't just a little tipsy, he was plastered beat your girlfriend up drunk. Not that I have much sympathy for drug cos., but I feel sorry that Pfizer will probably have to pay millions to settle a "wrongful death" case when the idiot did not follow explicit directions on how to take his medicine. If someone is banging down my door at 4 am and I yell to go away and they don't then I would pop a cap in them with my 9mm no problem. Thank Goodness Texas protects the innocent from the criminals (read drunken fools who are stupid enough to keep banging down my door after I tell them to leave)
It is sad for his family, but if you do stupid things then you must suffer the consequences. Even Albrecht's mother understood the predicament her son put the neighbor in.
