OLD 97'S played a free show @ the World Trade Center ++ RHETT MILLER playing solo shows

Old 97's @ 7 WTC, NYC - Sep 17, 2007 (CRED)
Old 97s @ 7 WTC

Went to see the Old 97s today...Perfect venue...a bit cool, early evening (no worries about safety getting home), and the LOUD didn't matter; it was outside. The sound wasn't great, really bassy, but with all the concrete & glass around, no surprise. They played a great 50 minute set. I really enjoyed it. [Putting the New back in New York]
They opened for the Hold Steady, and the band called Illinois played the free show before them. Old 97s front-man Rhett Miller is playing the Blue Note on September 20th - early & late. More solo dates below....

Rhett Miller - 2007 Tour Dates
Sep 20 - Blue Note New York, New York
Sep 21 - Schubas (early show) Chicago, Washington
Sep 22 - Schubas (Early Show) Chicago, Illinois
Sep 23 - Shank Hall Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Oct 27 - Smirnoff Music Center Dallas, Texas

"Went to see the Old 97s today...Perfect venue..."

apparently the perfect nyc music venue is just 100 feet from the site of the worst terrorist attack in recent memory

take that osama!

"early evening (no worries about safety getting home)"

umm, this is the financial district, even if this was later, were you going to be worried about your safety?

why would this ever be a concern? especially here, but even at other venues around the city?

jeeeesh

I wonder how Rhett felt about playing there. He lived right down there on 9/11. In fact, he wrote a song in the plaza the night before 9/11. He and his fiancee at the time (now his wife) had to run away when the towers collapsed.

I like the Hold Steady, but the 97s are one of the most electric kick ass live bands I have ever seen. You really have to see them with a bunch of rabid fans who all sing along.

10:22 jesus dude cut that girl some slack, shes been in NYC for two weeks, of course shes gonna be on guard. also are you a girl? riding alone in the subway at night? that can be a scary proposition i could tell you plenty of not so nice nyc stories. I live here all my life so know a thing or two about shit that could happen to people.

and btw if she is reading this, take care I lived in Maspeth for about 20 years. good luck to you.

PERFECT VENUE? Ew. I guess Hiroshima would have been second-best.

I recorded this set too. I don't know if it came out as good The Hold Steady recording, since I haven't listened to it yet. It was much more windy during this set than the Hold Steady set, and there was not the line of bodies that later blocked/buffered the wooshing sounds of the flowing fountain in the middle of the plaza. Unless its a total washout, I'm going to post this recording on my site in the coming days.

You know, you are right. I should cut the girl some slack, and i was a harsh.

I am a guy (so it's different for me obviously) and I knew that she was a female, but I still think it was unneccesary.

This city is not as scary and as dangerous as the TV makes it out to be. I don't really know of any venues that are in rough areas; and who goes to shows alone? I mean, it happens (and Ive done it), but never did it even seem sketchy for a female (once again Im not a girl, so I cant completely say).

Dont live a sheltered life. I apologize for my harshness, but it wasnt needed to have the line in the review.

Stop watching so much law and order (i mean, keep watching, just dont believe it all).
