sex pistols

Punk legends The Sex Pistols have announced a concert to mark the 30th anniversary of the release of their seminal album Never Mind the Bollocks.
Original members John Lydon, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock will play at the Brixton Academy in London on 8 November.

The group, who split in 1978, first reformed for a world tour in 1996 and last performed together in 2003. [BBC]

Either someone's very jealous of the Led Zeppelin guitarist that shares his first name--or maybe Phil Collins, or Sting, or Scary Spice--or the royalties from showing his ass with Bif Naked/passing judgement on nu-metal bands on Fuse have already dried up.... [Idolator]

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 11:27 AM

They reunited back in 1996, and the shows were good, but nothing special.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 11:33 AM

I saw them in 2003 and Johnny Rotten forgot the words to God Save The Queen.

Posted by Mike | September 18, 2007 11:39 AM

wow i missed that 1996 reunion, must have been low key. what cities did they hit up?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 11:40 AM

they played roseland in 96

when you glorify the past the future dries up

of course if it were a Clash reunion.....

sigh

Posted by javier buchananeversonia | September 18, 2007 12:05 PM

The 1996 tour was a small tour of Europe and large American Cities.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 12:07 PM

can it be called a reunion if they are doing it for the 3rd time in 10 years?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 12:11 PM

Yes it can

Posted by Mike L | September 18, 2007 12:27 PM

No it can't

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 12:37 PM

If Sid Vicious was a coat hanger, then John Lydon is a shoe tree.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 12:38 PM

E.M.I. is a great song.
just sayin'

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 12:57 PM

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 12:59 PM

only an ignoramus would say the pistols are overrated.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 1:22 PM

sex pistols can never be overrated.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 1:30 PM

The pistols are not overrated

Posted by Ignoramus | September 18, 2007 1:37 PM

can a band be both extremely influential AND overrated?
I can't stand the sex pistols.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 1:46 PM

time for sleep

great band ......do as the jam does
leave it be

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 1:54 PM

I think Never Mind the Bollocks is one of the best rock and roll albums ever. Has not aged a bit and still sounds raw.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 2:21 PM

overrated, but great. i wish they were playing ny i'd def go

Posted by marc | September 18, 2007 2:25 PM

While the pistols certainly arent gifted musicians in any way their music was still highly influential and i do not think they are overrated whatsoever. They are an important piece of rock history...not important as the Ramones per se....but still important.

Posted by D | September 18, 2007 2:53 PM

will malcolm mclaren be there?

Posted by sid | September 18, 2007 3:04 PM

sid, they said the sex pistols didnt they? so doh. he are teh pist0ls

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 3:20 PM

Saw them in 96 and walked out of the show. They were playing arenas back on that tour. Hopefully they'll do Irving or something like that because honestly, they were never good enough to play places big places and it just looks sad.

Posted by bob | September 18, 2007 3:43 PM

You had to be in London in 76-77. If you were there, they will never be overrated for you, if you weren't, I can easily see why you may think so. Agree their reunions to date have been really sad, but I'd still give it a go at the Academy if I could get there (and Jonesy's Jukebox is still the best radio show on the air).

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 4:48 PM

at least they're all still alive, which beats a fictional New York Dolls reunion. oh well, they only did the reunion shows for the money, they were crap and they're even older now. When's the Slaughter & The Dogs reunion?

Posted by a lazy sod | September 18, 2007 5:03 PM

So sad in so many ways.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 5:15 PM

Be tough to get a Slaughter & The Dogs reunion, as the last I heard they were still staggering on.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 5:30 PM

They never played any arenas on the 96 or 2002/3 tours. At least not in America. Not even in Great Britan. Possibly in japan but that was it.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 6:37 PM

This is the last place to discuss rock and roll. No one here knows shit about rock and roll.

Plus lemurs.

"at least they're all still alive, which beats a fictional New York Dolls reunion."

But at least the New York Dolls 2.0 put on a good live show.

> They never played any arenas on the 96 or 2002/3 >tours. At least not in America. Not even in Great >Britan. Possibly in japan but that was it.

BS. I saw them at Shoreline in Mountain View. I remember goldfinger opened. I know they played some other big venues as well.

Posted by bob | September 18, 2007 7:48 PM

when will Kix reunite?

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 8:14 PM

Bollocks.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 9:05 PM

I'm just glad John Lydon is still around. PiL forever.

Posted by steffi | September 18, 2007 9:40 PM

i'm wiht ya 12:59....highly overrated

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 9:46 PM

wow. we're so punk rock we'll take any money to exploit our musical past and give another round of shitty interviews talking about how angry we still are.

Posted by annie momus | September 18, 2007 11:22 PM

legalize it

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2007 11:22 PM

make it a free show at the seaport. makes sense, lasy year- NY Dolls, this year - Suicide, June 2008- Sex Pistols. Id go see it.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 12:55 AM

pistols suck. P.I.L. are the real thing

Posted by goofy | September 19, 2007 8:09 AM

"make it a free show at the seaport. makes sense, lasy year- NY Dolls, this year - Suicide, June 2008- Sex Pistols. Id go see it."

The first NY reunion show, and second overall, was a big show at Randalls Island, not a free show. They must have played 4-5 times in NY before doing that free show.

I'd rather see a PIL reunion, any lineup.

Anonymous yesterday at 1:54 pm wrote of The Jam "leaving it be"

Well, they didn't actually - the Jam's other two guys Bruce Foxton and Paul Buckler DID reunite earlier this year for a sold-out British tour. I wrote about it:

The Sex Pistols are the most overrated band of all time. They were simply terrible and should not even be compared to the Ramones and the Clash. It's like comparing Winger to Metallica.

Posted by Loop | September 19, 2007 4:39 PM

i agree kip and co. are far superior to metallica.

Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2007 5:08 PM

lolz @ glen matlock. wanker.

Posted by wepeel | September 19, 2007 8:44 PM

Submariner rocks. Anarchy in the UK rocks. Yes, the Sex Pistols were a contrivance. And no, Sex Pistols aren't overrated. Because rock isn't for rating. You want ratings? Go watch American "Idle" you fucking posers.

the police sucks. pistols well... p.i.l ist great but nevertheless johnny lydon ist still entertaining

Posted by Anonymous | September 21, 2007 8:38 AM

Ha, Johnny Rottten likened the Police to "soggy old dead carcasses."
