The National add 3rd NYC show
The National @ Austin City Limits 2007 (MORE)
The shows at Terminal 5 (opening night of the new venue) and at the Music Hall of Williamsburg are both now sold out, so the National added another show at the Music Hall on Saturday October 13th. Tickets should be on sale shortly.
In not-actually-related-but-maybe-a-good-"National"-pun-could-go-here news, what do you think of this idiot?
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is to speak before the United Nations on Tuesday, a day after he challenged a university audience to look into "who was truly involved" in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. (I know, I know...)In appearances Monday, the firebrand Iranian leader also defended his right to question established Holocaust history and denied there were gay Iranians.
When pressed about the harsh treatment of women, homosexuals and academics who challenge Iran's government, Ahmadinejad painted a rosy picture, saying, "Women in Iran enjoy the highest levels of freedom," he said. [CNN]

"i liked it better when my homepage wasn't political."
that is fair, and I'm happy to keep it that way. Kind of random really - current events, I don't know. I mean the guy is denying the holocaust and that there are gay Iranians. Seems silly more than political?

There are no "gay" Iranians alive that he is aware of because if anyone admits they're gay then they're executed. That's what he means when he says there's no homosexual "problem".

Also, there was recently an episode of New York Noise on that nyc tv channel, and it had the national on it (the lead singer) going on a tour of the UN.
just a little FYI.
oh, and also:
"i liked it better when my homepage wasn't political."
relax. please. how many of these types of posts has BV made? and dont give me a "slippery slope" response.

I guess Ahmadinejad doesn't read his own official newapaper:
On Sunday, November 13, 2005 the semi-official Tehran daily Kayhan reported that the Iranian government publicly hung two men, Mokhtar N. (24 years old) and Ali A. (25 years old), in the Shahid Bahonar Square of the northern town of Gorgan.
The government reportedly executed the two men for the crime of "lavat." Iran’s shari`a-based penal code defines lavat as penetrative and non-penetrative sexual acts between men. Iranian law punishes all penetrative sexual acts between adult men with the death penalty. Non-penetrative sexual acts between men are punished with lashes until the fourth offense, when they are punished with death. Sexual acts between women, which are defined differently, are punished with lashes until the fourth offense, when they are also punished with death.

I saw this clip last year on CurrentTV (but it's on YouTube now) about Ahmadinejad as a young American who may or may not be gay. I hadn't thought about it for a while, but it'd be great today for you guys. Methinks he dost protest too much!! Love your stuff, guys!

Hey BV, is this "sweeps week" for blogs? All of a sudden I feel like I'm reading the National Enquirer (fake meg white sex videos, outrageously stupid Ahmadinejad comments, etc...)

I recommend listening to or reading the lengthy comments of Columbia Univeresity President Lee Bollinger at the event yesterday and also of Ahmadinejad and his Q&A.
Transcript:

Audio:

(Skip to 4:00 for Bollinger or 8:23 for the beginning of his harsh rebuke of Ahmadinejad.
I got both URLs from the Columbia J-School's blog on all of the events: http://apresidentvisits.blogspot.com

These guys are unlistenable. Seriously, i've tried, but he drones and drones --

Matt Beringer and friends rock. Ahmadinajad is a crazy fool, but I think new york city and the media are idiots for playing into his hands with those headlines. Columbia gets points as a fine institution and is obviously a better promoter of democracy than our city, state, and NATIONAL governments combined.
