loved the show last night....anyone write down the setlist?! for arctic monkeys...
Posted by hmmm | September 6, 2007 12:49 PM
they sounded surprisingly good.
no encore though.
fuck them

One of the best shows of the year for me. Thank you to the 47-year old guy I met who saw me get my weed confiscated by security and who shared some weed with me right before AM went on. You made my night. You mentioned that you check BV all the time so here's hoping you read this.
Posted by Carl | September 6, 2007 12:55 PM
How the hell was your weed confiscated? For the Decemberists, I asked a "park volunteer" about smoking at Summerstage. He said it's allowed - just be mindful of others around you. We were, and we did - no problems.

anyone ever find out why the coral cancelled both their dates in nyc?
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 1:05 PM
it's me, carl, the 47 year old dude that hooked you and your girlfriend up. it was nice meeting you guys.
you may have noticed i made a somewhat hasty departure. that was because some poor excuse for a homosapien decided they wanted to spit at the back of my neck and succeeded.
i'm 90 percent sure it was the small man standing somewhat behind me, but i wasn't about to castrate the wrong guy by mistake. oh well, in the karma-driven world i exist in, that small, small man will get colon cancer or maybe get hit by a car and end up a paraplegic.
it may not be instant, but karma's gonna get that little man.
arctic monkeys, however, continue to rule the musical universe!

"anyone ever find out why the coral cancelled both their dates in nyc?"
they cancelled the whole tour, not just those dates.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 1:08 PM
wishing bad karma on someone else is bad karma, don't you know that?
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 1:16 PM
Nimrods who know nothing about eastern religion just LOOOOVE to throw the word Karma around, don't they?
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 1:23 PM
I'll take my chances anon. the spitter deserves all he'll encounter. and he will ;)
Posted by William | September 6, 2007 1:24 PM
as a practicing buddhist, numbnuts anonymous, i'd guess you can manage blog comments and little else.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 1:26 PM
William, are we to assume you did nothing to provoke the spitter?
Posted by Greek chorus | September 6, 2007 1:34 PM
Assumptions are sometimes dangerous, chorus, but trust that i am THE most nonconfrontational, peaceful person you're likely to encounter. The night was amazing, the band was amazing, I was having a great time, sharing words and more with Carl and others around me.
Absolutely NOTHING preceded the disgusting act - unless I was sweating too much and droplets may have left my body whilst dancing to some great rock n' roll.
But, no, sadly this was entirely unprovoked. It's funny, I am 47, but musically I'm still a teenager I guess, because I get as much joy jumping around to Arctic Monkeys as I did to the Ramones and Buzzcocks back in 1978.
But in addition to the disgusting acts of one small man, it's the behavior of the generation that loves the same music as me (or just wants to appear to) that will finally force me to abandon live shows. Having to try to listen to a very loud band play great music while people held cell phone conversations - talking above the music - that just blew me away.
I don't think I've gotten old and cranky (just ask Carl), but people sure have gotten selfish and self-centered. This is one aspect of the generation gap that I welcome. It's all about R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Posted by William | September 6, 2007 1:53 PM
Carl, you're a good man.
Posted by Tumbleweed | September 6, 2007 1:54 PM
jesus says turn the other cheek.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 2:08 PM
i did turn the other cheek. but jesus is dead anyway and look what turning the other cheek did for him.
although i avoid violence at all costs, if i was certain it was that little man who spit, i would have plunged the pen i was using to write the setlist down into his neck or testicles and had no regrets.
sadly, there are some people in this world that deserve the very worst we can through at and do to them.
Posted by William | September 6, 2007 2:14 PM
"i am THE most nonconfrontational, peaceful person you're likely to encounter" yet wish "that small, small man will get colon cancer or maybe get hit by a car and end up a paraplegic." Not sure I want to visit that "karma-driven world" you live in. What sort of voodoo do you sit at home wishing down on someone who cuts you on line?
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 2:17 PM
cuts me on line, anonymous? i know this is a challenge, but go back and read the original post (hint: it involved spitting, not line-cutting).
i dunno, i suppose some people are into that sort of thing. hey anonymous, we can try an experiment:
i piss/spit/ejaculate/shit on you and we see what kind of reaction i get. remember physics? every action results in an equal reaction.
fuck the semantics. let someone glob some phlegm on your skinny neck and THEN post a comment shithead.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 2:24 PM
Wow, the posters on here sure are assholes. Dude got spit on and shows some human reaction and he just gets attacked by the sharks.
Posted by Reg! | September 6, 2007 2:24 PM
what time does daft punk go on?
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 2:31 PM
thanks Reg! it's sane, non-snarky people like you who keep me hopeful. and carl, hope to see you at another show in the future.
unfortunately i'll be missing out on a LOT (morrissey) as i'll be in argentina for october!
Posted by William | September 6, 2007 2:32 PM
maybe theres an innocent explanation like the dude sneezed and accidentally spit came out, or the dude was drinking a beer and choked on it which caused him to spit up.
anyway, thankfully no violence went down cause you sound like one tough dude.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 2:43 PM
1) They sounded bad live....Alex sounded OK...but the drummer was struggling thru the entire set.
2) Beer/Concession stands were ridiculously understaffed. 25 mins to wait in a line for a beer....no lie.
3) The sound guy finally decided to turn the volume up during the last 3 songs.
4) In no circumstance is it OK for a man to be on another man's shoulder while at a concert....(you know who you are...you dork).
Posted by mardy bummed | September 6, 2007 2:55 PM
mardy i agree with comments 2, 3 and 4. but as far as #1, i think the sound was terrible - not the band. but i DO agree that the drummer was off quite a bit of the time.
they sounded much tighter and the sound was vastly superior at the hammerstein show earlier this year.
Posted by William | September 6, 2007 3:05 PM
this is one of the more bizzare/interesting string of comments ive ever read...
Posted by vinz | September 6, 2007 3:10 PM
Buenos Dias, William! We cannot wait to spit all over you, homey!
Posted by Argentina | September 6, 2007 3:11 PM
They fucking rock and that's all that matters.
Posted by bob | September 6, 2007 3:13 PM
How was Voxtrot?
Posted by christopher | September 6, 2007 3:21 PM
Re: The Coral, a PR guy told me they dropped off the tour "due to illness"...
Posted by Dfactor | September 6, 2007 3:24 PM
Williams sounds like the awesomest 47 year old ever
Posted by queefah | September 6, 2007 3:45 PM
I was at this concert last night, they were great!!!!! I had such a good time, although being in the front row has its pros and cons..everything was well worth it!
Posted by maria | September 6, 2007 4:24 PM
The sound was pretty great for Summerstage - at least at the front.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 4:28 PM
Does anyone else picture William as Tommy Chong and Carl as Danny Masterson? http://wallpapers.infinitecoolness.com/that70sshowdesktopwallpaperthumb001.jpg
Posted by I am highly amused | September 6, 2007 4:52 PM
Also, why does the staff guy pictured above look like Ron Jeremy? My head is swimming!
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 4:53 PM
i am soooo tired of voxtrot. i used to like them quite a bit, until i realized all their fans are screaming 12 year old girls and people who watch the oc. the fact that they'd even consider doing a show with the arctic monkeys says a lot about who their arget audience is.

Also, why does that girl look like shes 12 in that picture? She looks like she doesnt want to be there. its fucking sold out and we have disinterested 12 year olds. Give to the ticket to someone else for gods sake .
Maybe that girl was just caught at a bad time, but I hate people who clearly dont want to be at a show. so whyd you pay the money?! There once was a girl @ a we are scientists show who was literally plugging her ears. what. the. hell.
Posted by Katherine | September 6, 2007 5:06 PM
Since when did Ron Jeremy work as a stage bouncer?
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 5:23 PM
There's a girl in the front row looking at the bouncer and smirking because she knows it's Ron Jeremy. "Ron, you crazy minx. You really get around," she thought.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 5:26 PM
Hey Anon 5:23 That pic was taken with the Security guy screaming about us not making them to have to do their job and during the ridiculously long wait and stupid DJ set, that 13 year old girl is my lil sis and don't blame her for being disinterested at that point. Don't talk about stuff when you don't know what was going on. Besides, during the show we were dancing up a storm.
Posted by Steph | September 6, 2007 5:38 PM
Anon 5:26 - I'm the smirking girl, lol =).
Posted by Steph | September 6, 2007 5:39 PM
would somone please photoshop that guy's bald spot out..I can't stand looking at it!
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 5:41 PM
hey 'i am highly amused'! i wasn't gonna weigh in on my own post anymore, but man you made me LAUGH SO HARD with your comment and pic!!!!!!
thanks, DUDE, for lightening my mood after a shitty episode. just for the recored, i sport no facial hair, have just a buzzed mess atop my head, and was never a hippie!
Posted by William | September 6, 2007 5:42 PM
Tommy Chong jokes heal all wounds.
Posted by i am highly amused | September 6, 2007 5:58 PM
They were great last night, the sound wasn't so great in the beginning, but Alex was more interactive than usual.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 6:58 PM
William, now that I know your name, my email address is carlube@gmail.com. What a crazy thread this turned into. My myspace is www.myspace.com/barlstone. If anyone else wants to go on there, you might notice that I don't look entirely unlike Dannny Masterson. I even saw him at Coachella one year wearing a t-shirt that I owned.
Posted by Carl | September 6, 2007 8:37 PM
"unfortunately i'll be missing out on a LOT (morrissey) as i'll be in argentina for october!"
Come October 29, I'm sure those who attended the Morrissey shows would tell you, "William, it was really nothing."
Posted by Johnny Marr | September 6, 2007 9:29 PM
this is the best post show BV comment thread ever.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 9:58 PM
brilliant, johnny marr, brilliant. i was feeling like the boy with the thorn in his side!

thanks for the setlist!

YO I'M RIGHT THERE!
i'm the girl with the blue shit on with the silver bracelets all over her arms, looking hopeful that am might come out ahah.
anyways best fucking gig of my life! crowd was amazing, singing back all the words, just really great. am were loving it.
i thought the sound was great, and matt wasn't stuggling through! he had one mess up and it was brief. he has that same face on every show, just because it's a tight set, not many breaks.
i've been to many of their gigs before and this was the most i've seen them enjoy the crowd. they never do encores. wasn't expecting one but still chanted it at the end.
big nige and the other roadie taking off their shirts during a certain romance was priceless! and alex's one liners were spot on.
glad they played mardy bum and was fuckign estatic with the different version of D is for Delightful.
anways regardless of what people say about them they do basically run the fucking world. can't wait till the next north american tour and album!
Posted by Haedn | September 8, 2007 12:57 PM
Crazy how all you have to do is post a picture of some teenage girls and they all come flocking to the comments, even on BV.
Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2007 2:22 PM
and yes voxtrot were also fantastic. they played a good set and when i called out a song earlier (the start of something) they played it last because i requested it. they got better as their nerves loosened up. they seem like nice guys too.

SECURITY GUARD TOOK MYSELF AND MY GIRLFRIEND IN THROUGH THE V.I.P AREA FOR $70..we were only having a walk through the park and this happened...shady crew but got us in before the show started....so next year...next show just hang around the entrance past the main entrance and flash a few dollars at the security men...it really works. The show was very good...the support act...mmm what was the lyric content all about?..maybe I missed somethin...overall goodnight.
Back in the uk now...Led Zepp gig next this year.

Hey 47 year old guy Carl, I'm that "small man" that you accused of spitting on you. Glad I was able to make such a lasting impression on your evening! Hope all is well with you. By the way, that wasn't spit.
