What's going on Wednesday?
Daniel Johnston @ Spiegeltent, NYC - Sept 4, 2007

Daniel Johnston was in good spirits, smiling and interacting with his friends for the night. At one point during the set, DJ had the crowd sit down while he played a couple songs on the Baldwin stage left. His good friend, Brett Hartenbach, joined him for a good portion of the set on acoustic guitar.[Fresh Bread]* There's Mexican music at Joe's Pub
* Peter Bjorn & John are at Maxwell's
* A nobel prize-winning scientist is at Union Hall
* Arctic Monkeys are playing Summerstage with Voxtrot
* White Williams is at Mercury Lounge w/ Plasticines
* Perry Farrell brings the Satellite Party to Irving Plaza
* Against Me!, Matt & Kim & David Dondero hopefully play Williamsburg
What else?

One of the greatest films I have ever seen is premiering at the IFC center tonight at 7:30pm.
FROWNLAND will be screened and then followed by a Q&A with director Ronnie Bronstein (moderated by Filmmaker Magazine's Scott Macaulay)

Dude's picture of him in the Blck Flag t-shirt at Keyspan Park is pretty sweet though.

I liked Cheeseburger a lot better when they were called COMMENT SPAM.

If that Cheeseburger / Les Savy Fav show was in a bubble it would be way better.
Posted by Anonymous | September 5, 2007 6:44 PM
J . . . how did your heart get on a stick?
Posted by Anonymous | September 5, 2007 6:45 PM
Good spirits?? I thought he was going to have a breakdown all night. I love DJ and loved the show, but there were parts where I thought it was going to be his last night on earth.

"Daniel Johnston was in good spirits, smiling and interacting with his friends for the night."
can you imagine if this was in a review of a non-outsider artist? there's a difference between being conscious of frailty and being patronizing.

"I CAN HAS CHEEZEBURGER?"
There's no 'e' after the 'z' in 'cheezburger'. See for yourself: http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/01/11/i-can-has-cheezburger/ If you're going to misspell, then misspell correctly, dammit.
"see you guys at Satellite Party. fuckin Nuno rules."
Didn't Nuno quit that band?
"can you imagine if this was in a review of a non-outsider artist? there's a difference between being conscious of frailty and being patronizing."
Oh, yeah, because trained musicians who haven't been diagnosed with a mental illness NEVER behave disturbingly during a performance.

And speaking of misspelling, BV, it's P-L-A-S-T-I-S-C-I-N-E-S. http://www.plastiscines-music.com/ Not that anyone gives un merde, I suppose.

And herein lies one of the main components of why Chan Marshall has a respectfully sized fanbase. (debate of her "greatness" notwithstanding)

Arctic Monkeys tonight were amazing, Voxtrot was garbage. The end.

Daniel just passed gas all night. So of course he was in a great mood. To say it wasn't fun is to have pure shit pumping through your veins.

who went to Hoodoo Gurus? How was it?
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 9:19 AM
PB&J were great. They started the show off with a sitar version of "Young Folks" playing through the PA whilst the crowd got all pumped. They played the hits. The opening band was pretty good too. Lastly, Hoboken is a great place to meet up with your old frat boyz.

ok, i didn't see the acclaimed documentary about Daniel Johnston and I do not know his music very well.
I do have to give him a lot of credit for getting up on stage, blah, blah...
yes his lyrics are quirky.
but i don't get it. the show was like going to a kid's 6th grade recital.
whhy are people so into this guy?
not trying to be a jerk, just wondering.
left show early kind of bored

Danny Tenaglia boat cruise was pretty damn good times.
Posted by Anonymous | September 6, 2007 3:08 PM
that opening band for PB&J were just plain awful last night!
I kept finding myself stuck amongst frat boys who either talked through the whole show or made out with their fat girlfiends...ugh
