* Luke Temple is playing Lit Lounge
* Scorpions are at Beacon Theatre
* John Vanderslice & Bishop Allen are at Bowery Ballroom
* listen to John Vanderslice & Bishop Allen live on NPR
* Beirut & Balkan Beat Box are playing in Central Park
* Steve Earle & Allison Moorer is at Town Hall
* Secret Machines continue their residency at The Annex
* Thurston Moore is at the Music Hall of Williamsburg
* Cinematic Orchestra are at Webster Hall
Sometimes I procrastinate posting about something so much, that it just never happens. Such is the case so far with The Cinematic Orchestra who I wished I was going to see at Webster Hall tonight (and who played Summerstage and Joe's Pub this summer - and cancelled a show at Bowery Ballroom, actually). I don't know what their lineup will be at Webster, but Polaris Music Prize winner Patrick Watson sings on some of the best songs on Ma Fleur - their new album that I like, but don't love. I wanted to love it like I love This Mortal Coil (or something like that), but some of the songs just don't do it for me.
On a related note, Patrick Watson's own album just came out in the United States this week, and you can listen to it at AOL. What else?

beirut sucked. completely and utterly sucked.

the secret machines did not rock me. they didn't sound like themselves. it was boring.

^ I am so glad to hear that. This was a rare circumstance that I blew off a show I had already bought a ticket for. Work issues interfered with the schedule, but everything I have been reading about the secret machines, the sound and the venue were making me pessimistic about the show anyway. Did you feel other attendees at the show were getting the same read that you did?

why'd beirut suck? last minute, i decided not to go...and while i hate to think/hear they sucked...it sorta makes me feel good that i may not have missed an 'epic' performance on a beautiful day in central park...
what happened?
Posted by vinz | September 27, 2007 9:54 AM
post script - im referring to beirut, btw.
Posted by vinz | September 27, 2007 9:54 AM
beirut wasnt feeling it. the crowd wasnt feeling it. and to make matters worse, zach decided to alienate the audience even more by speaking only in french. it went from cute to annoying realllly fast. there just wasnt any connection between the band and the audience this time. i was more excited to hear what the next thing a heckler was going to say ("come here little boy!") rather than what the next song the band was going to play. but maybe it was just me. i hope it was just me. i hope others got some sort of enjoyment out of it.

I thought it was just OK. I had too much expectations.
Posted by Eduardo | September 27, 2007 11:11 AM
the last time i saw beirut was at northsix last year, where the crowd literally refused to leave until they came out to play more songs. i guess i was expecting to experience that sort of energy again.

I thought that Beirut was pretty good, though it definitely could have been louder. The first two bands were pretty painful to sit through though. Balkan Beat Box should be exiled to some island where it's 1991, musical clichés don't exist, and there's a sweet kegger going on.

well thanks!
had i gone, id probably forget to bring my french/english dictionary. the whole time french? that's sorta condescending...
Posted by vinz | September 27, 2007 1:50 PM
there was just a bit of french and it was pretty crap, actually.
