DOWNLOAD: Sigur Ros - fönklagið [the funk song] (live) (MP3)

Heima

due to high demand there will be a second screening of “heima” in new york on october 6th. this will be a midnight show with a brief acoustic performance by the band prior to the screening. tickets go on sale wednesday october 3rd at 12 pm (est) on ticketmaster (limit of 2 tickets per person). there will also be some tickets for sale at the french institute box office the same day, while supplies last.
Now the question is if one can get from Randall's Island to the screening by midnight.

Yeah....due to "high demand"...Sigur Ros was just so incredibly floored that they could sell out a 400 capacity venue in NYC.....

Is this one gonna to be 50 bucks as well for a "brief acoustic" set?

Posted by bite me | October 2, 2007 10:12 AM

Screw the "brief acoustic" set. I'd just like to see the movie.

What time does that Randall's Is. show end do you think?

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 10:21 AM

yay it will be impossible to get tickets AGAIN

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 10:39 AM

Secret show?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 11:27 AM

"bite me" is an idiot

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 11:29 AM

There will be another show, but it will not technically be a Sigur Ros show. It is a show already on sale, SR will just be guests.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 11:34 AM

can this secret show be confirmed? im pretty sure it was hinted at at one of the beirut shows... and i bought tickets on gut instinct.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 11:48 AM

Sigur Ros kinda sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 11:58 AM

dear anonymous, that really helps this conversation.

Posted by ardi | October 2, 2007 12:13 PM

I'm taking a chance on the 'secret gig'...just got some tix. Hope they are really gonna play.

Posted by ew | October 2, 2007 12:14 PM

sometimes theres an artist, of practically any medium, that aligns itself to the frequency of a persons soul. affects so dramatically and spiritually that it awakens wonder and confidence that such a personal beauty can exist here on earth in a tangible, accessible form.

for each person its different. theres plenty of people out there who find this listening to the newest vanessa carlton record or something. others find it hanging at the MoMA or on HBO sunday nights...

...for me, its very much sigur ros. NOW GIVE ME YOUR MOTHERFUCKING TICKETS SO I CAN SEE THIS SHOW AND NOT SEE THE SAME ARCADE FIRE SET FOR THE FIFTH TIME THIS YEAR

p.s. (arcade fire really does it for me too)

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 1:03 PM

I love how tone it down guy posts this contrived pretentious BS about Sigur Ros in order to sound "insightful":

"sometimes theres an artist, of practically any medium, that aligns itself to the frequency of a persons soul. affects so dramatically and spiritually that it awakens wonder and confidence that such a personal beauty can exist here on earth in a tangible, accessible form."

....and then returns to make gay jokes and write profanity about someone's mother like a 4th grader. Good one.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 1:10 PM

in tone it downs defense...you did call them a jackass....and therefore, youre probably gay and incestuous

everyone really needs to just tone it down.

Posted by huh? | October 2, 2007 1:15 PM

I found this strange object in my office attached to the wall by a old-fashioned cable. When I picked it up there was this persistent humming noise. So I pressed some numbers on a keypad that looked like the right side of my keyboard.
Suddenly a voice answered! I told her I wanted tickets to Sigur Ros, and she said ok!
I'm not sure what this device is called, it must be some sort of ancient call box. But it worked!

Posted by nyctaper | October 3, 2007 12:19 PM

i just went up to the french alliance and there was no line. just got two tix.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 12:35 PM

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 1:03 PM

no they just gave me a receipt that i need to present when i get there saturday night.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 1:09 PM

Wanted for Trade:
I have one extra ticket for the midnight show and would like to trade it (plus the $15 difference in ticket prices) for one ticket to the earlier show.

Posted by pmppk | October 3, 2007 1:10 PM

oh hurray for that french institute getting their act together. for the first sale, i was there on a saturday morning and they had nothing to give out. everyone in line left home without tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 5:41 PM

why do people care about this so much?

is this not just brief fifteen minute acoustic set followed by a screening of a movie which is coming out on dvd in a couple of weeks anyway?

what am i missing?

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 5:48 PM

sigur ros + small venue + dvd that long time fans have been longing for = enough reason for people who love the band beyond their ability to express it to pay to see them for 15 minutes

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 5:56 PM

then why arent more people excited about the friday "secret" show?

that to me seems more exciting and unique musically.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 11:18 PM

what are the exact details of the rumored secret sigur ros show tonight-are they supposed to play a full set after the scheduled wordless music series acts are finished? is it sold out?

Posted by anonymous | October 5, 2007 12:38 PM

at the 7:30 show, band opened with the same trio they played at wordless music. (im pretty sure second song, the new one, was the same.)

heima was utterly brilliant. the tour documentary was interspersed with gorgeous visually ambient vignettes of icelandic scenery. it seemed to offer a glimpse inside the soul of the icelandic nation, and by extension sigur ros. i had chills.

the band came back out after the film for a q&a. the host led off with his own array of questions.. he was a real upper east side d-bag, who kept showing off with elitist jumblings, and the band couldn’t really understand his ranting, so the director Dean DeBlois answered most of his questions. i bet the wordless music dude would have handled it much better.

things got better when the audience was allowed to ask questions... but the band for the most part was rather introverted and, in the beginning a bit shy. for the last question, some brilliant member of the audience asked what it would take for the band to play an encore, and the crowd erupted. a few awkward moments ensued.. with the host saying 'sorry but we ran out of time'. (not sure if he said that to protect the band's wishes if they didn’t want to or if he was a real fascist). the band indicated that their repertoire wasn’t conducive for another impromptu song because most songs required added instrumentals (strings, electronics, etc.). but after all, they settled for a new song they were working on, which was fabulous.

really good shit. anyone else have impressions? how was the midnite show?

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:52 AM

midnight show was different from wordless show...they played a different song

Posted by yes. | October 7, 2007 3:24 AM

i was at the 7:30 sigur ros show, and couldn't agree more regarding john seabrook. he was a total disaster, and i felt that during the q and a session that he was the only one who wasn't in on the joke. the band seemed inebriated and bored, and yet still able to have fun with the situation.

the encore that they ended up doing turned out to be the prettiest song they played, and i think i found it here:

what was the setlist for the midnight screening?

Posted by anonymous | October 7, 2007 11:51 AM

yeah i think that song was the one - stunning!

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:32 PM

I have reviewed the midnight show, and posted my recording on my site.

I am a big fan of Sigur Ros, seen almost every show starting with the first one which was moved to Irving Plaza, but I didn't care for the movie. Also not a fan of the acoustic setup. Without the flourishes, the dynamic nature of their music was gone. Still, their music is still way better than almost everything else out there.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:46 PM

yeah - the movie was really pretentious and excessively self-congratualtory/iceland tourist guide-y

more music - less talk about how you did the tour for the people.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:31 PM

Let me guess, you've never been to Iceland. I've been there twice, and its truly a magical place. If anything, the movie can't fully capture the magnitude and intensity of the beauty of this country. I thought it did a terrific job of intertwining the locales with the music. The complete performance of Heysatan in that odd open field with the abandoned cottage and surrounding artwork was intense. I also thought that Sigur Ros seemed modest about their experience, and not pretentious at all.

Posted by nyctaper | October 7, 2007 1:42 PM

not pretentious... insofar as it's possible to make such a film without being so.

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 2:07 PM

let me guess, you've never been to iceland.

but i agree with your sentiment nyctaper

"If anything, the movie can't fully capture the magnitude and intensity of the beauty of this country."

I am not anon 1:31pm, but I believe the above statement is part of the problem of the movie. Too much insignificant details instead of the whole picture when it mattered. Never really met the fans. This film could have done so much, but it didn't.

Amazing band, so/so film.
