As usual, I fell behind and never got to fully write about how excited I am for the lineup upstairs at Pianos this afternoon (free - starts @ noon, @ Pianos, BrooklynVegan party). So real quick: You've got singer-songwriter/GNR cover band member Dave Godowsky opening up the show - his ony area appearance. Following him is Orba Squara, who among other things, is known for the song in the iPhone commercial. Then Marla Hansen of Sufjan/National/Kanye fame. Then Scott Matthew - known for having songs in soundtracks like Shortbus & Ghost in the Shell - he has a beautiful, beautiful voice. Then JULIA KENT - an amazing, solo cello player that is gaining popularity in Europe, and who also happens to be a member of Antony & The Johnsons, and who was in Rasputina, etc, etc... Then DOVEMAN. Then Tim Bracy of the Mendoza Line (who was supposed to play later). Then Craig Wedren - formerly of Shudder to Think. Then finally Erik Friedlander (who was supposed to play earlier) - "now one of the world's top cellists".

And on top of all that - great bands playing downstairs for free too - like Turbo Fruits, Foals, and The Maccabees! go now. bye.

"no talk of the trey anastasio sit in with phil and phriends last night?"

Hopefully not, because Phish is a godawful fucking band, and nothing even remotely related to them should not be discussed here. Take your shitty music somewhere else, hippie.

Posted by Anonymous | October 21, 2007 4:18 PM

Oh, used a double negative, my bad. Phish still suck.

Posted by Anonymous | October 21, 2007 4:23 PM

take your shitty attitude and keep posting here, hipster.

Posted by Anonymous | October 21, 2007 5:34 PM

Not a hipster. I don't even like most of the music talked about here. I just really hate Phish.

Posted by Anonymous | October 21, 2007 5:42 PM

so you read a site featuring news about music that you don't like on the off chance that you can mock someone for liking phish?

what?

Posted by Anonymous | October 21, 2007 8:24 PM

I like SOME of the music talked about on here, but not a ton of it. God forbid I read this site to find out stuff about the bands I do like!

On an unrelated note, did anyone here see the Weakerthans last year at Webster Hall? Was the barrier there or not?

Saying that Phish "sucks" is pretty ridiculous. Everyone can have their opinion of jambands...some people don't like jazz or other forms of improv on stage...it's a different listening experience than hearing one 3 minute song after another. I'm not even a fan, but you can't say it sucks...it has to be more along the lines of "It's not for me, but I respect it."

Phish had four absurdly talented musicians. As a guitar player (and anyone who actually plays the guitar would agree), I respect the shit out of Trey Anastacio.
