Arcade Fire October 6th mystery

What does it all mean!?

This Saturday, October 6, the Arcade Fire will wrap up their blockbuster tour with LCD Soundsystem at an extravaganza on New York City's Randall's Island that also features Les Savy Fav and Blonde Redhead. But that's not the only Arcade Fire goodness going down that day.

If you've visited NeonBible.com today, you might have noticed a link to www.beonlineb.com (clever, guys!), which as of right now, only sports the words "Arcade Fire presents..." and "October 6th."

So what's going on? Well, we know, but we can't tell you. Rest assured, it's pretty fucking cool. Definitely keep your browsers at the ready. [Pitchfork]

hmmm

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 2:43 PM

if it's just a webcast, big deal.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 2:46 PM

"if it's just a webcast, big deal."

I agree. Webcast? Big whoop. Has to be more than that.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 2:51 PM

a webcast would be a pretty big deal for the many, many people who dont live in the select cities that have gotten this tour. not important at all if youre from ny and/or are going to the show..

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 2:58 PM

It's a live stream of Win Butler having sex with Meg White.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 3:01 PM

Neil Young will be joining AF for an encore. Can you afford it?

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 3:02 PM

a typical live webcast hardly qualifies as "pretty fucking cool", unless they're going all out...like with multiple camera angles.

it's probably something simple like a new streaming ep.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 3:04 PM

My guess is that it's...

...so we talk about it.

Actually it is a late night afterparty show they are going to play. They are announcing it before the show on that website. It is going to be at a really small space which shall remain nameless but people are going to be losing their mind when they cant get in.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 4:23 PM

daft punk is going to be playing a free afterparty at james murphy's house while win butler hands out free copies of in rainbows signed by kevin shields.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 4:30 PM

I heard it was a small venue afterparty show too. Mums the word, but this Randalls show was put on by Bowery Presents, Hmm, I wonder if they have any other venues, hmmmmm.

Posted by Anonymous | October 2, 2007 7:07 PM

"Which is the bigger secret? Arcade Fire's Saturday announcement or BV's "Special Guests" at his CMJ show?"

ha, I was afraid of this. I can tell you that the "Special Guest" could headline Bowery Ballroom themselves, but is not "special guest" because we're trying to trick people or get anyone's hopes up. They are only "special guest" for contractual reasons related to another show they're playing - in fact, I was pissed we had to do that. That's the only hint I can give though. I'll probably get to announce it soon. thx!

This is the secret show at Maxwell's that I posted about around the time that the Randall's show was announced, yet nobody listened to me. Just stay tuned. It's going to be a very late show. And I have no idea what they're going to do about tickets. Good luck, though.

Here's what I've heard, it's one of the two:

1. There will be a secret late-night show that night at Bowery Ballroom/Mercury Lounge.

2. The special guests at the performance will be Radiohead.

discuss.

Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 3:25 PM

if you check out the forums over at the official aracde fire forums, someone who is a "randall's island guest worker" said that they are prepping somethin HUGE for saturday's concert. i think it's a special guest or this crazy magic float, cause a live webcast is really nothing to get excited about.

Posted by adam | October 3, 2007 10:02 PM

A secret late night show in NYC seems pretty strange. Why would they set up a website to announce a show in NYC for 700 people? Of course, given how new yorkers think they are the center of the universe, I'm not surprised that people think that. Maybe I'll be proven wrong. And I agree with everyone else that a webcast does not qualify as being anything to get excited about.

Posted by CN | October 3, 2007 10:21 PM

Im excited for a webcast, im missing the show for a goddam out-of-town wedding

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:50 AM

And not one person has thought of this.

Are they going to close off the Triboro Bridge and perform from there?

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:23 AM

here's what it's gonna be....

Free b-sides and rarities release and movie/DVD announcement (there may be a physical release of this set bundled with the aforementioned DVD release). It is neither a new "Black Mirror" video or a webcast of Saturday's show. It may involve a charity or two as well. But you did not hear that from me.

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:33 AM

i agree something about a dvd/remix cd. at the judson church shows back in feb, there was a cameraman in front of us who said he was filming live footage for the band, so a dvd is coming at some point

Posted by chris | October 4, 2007 11:09 AM

I'm calling it:

Remix of Neon Bible w/LCD Soundsystem, mb singers from Blonde Readhead adding trippy vocals, and the whole damn festival is going to be webcast.

CONFIRMED

RADIOHEAD IS SPECIAL GUEST AT RANDALL'S ISLAND, OCTOBER 6TH!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | October 5, 2007 2:49 PM

Posted by Jared | October 6, 2007 12:47 AM

at the same time, if this was 1995, this would have been really cool. its just that nothing short of a free concert could be cool to us anymore.

Posted by Jared | October 6, 2007 12:48 AM

cool video. i have to say, the way they did this (exactly like radiohead) was a little dwarfed by the announcement of In Rainbows COMING OUT NEXT WEEK. but this is a cute little video.

still, why the anticipation? a bit of a let down for sure

Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 12:56 AM

did i miss something? a hidden message of some sorts? i think its like that darn stairway to heaven . Play it backwards and it speaks of some satanic ritual. i knew arcade fire was some kind of cult, the band just keeps getting bigger, now they got lcd soundsystem and other new york bands to join them. whats next the polyphonic spree and a mass suicide on randalls island. well im not falling for it this time. i'll be safe at home watching the news. you fucking creeps.

Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 1:09 AM

Goign to the show now....If this video was the "big surprise" then I'm dissapointed. Pithfork is to blame because they alluded to it being something BIG. Don't get me wrong...the video is cool, maybe I'm missing something here.

I was hoping for a special event directly related to today's show on dustbowl island.

Posted by John | October 6, 2007 1:07 PM

My take on this is like Radiohead saying "see we don't need a lable or distrobution, f*ck the industry," Arcade Fire is saying "who needs MTV, make your own music video." Its cool...but all the hype around that was laaaaaaaaaaaaaaame!

Posted by Katie | October 7, 2007 4:42 PM

Whatever they shot, the new Daft Punk video just went live at Webcastr. It appears to be the first place that has it and it's definately the one that the 250 kids shot in Brooklyn! It's at: www.webcastr.com

Posted by James | October 27, 2007 7:15 AM

I am fairly certain that almost all the douche bags that commented so rudely didn't go to this show. It was great, and Ohbjou did a good job in a new city.
