Band of Horses - new album ++ new ZUNEs too
I get all kinds of press releases sent to me. Most of them go unused. That would be true about the one I just got about the new "ZUNE Ignition Artist of the Month", but the timing was just too perfect.....
BAND OF HORSES is the Zune Ignition Artist of the MonthBand of Horses' new album is also streaming at AOL. More on Band of Horses' corporate ties, here. The new Zunes are out November 13th.In conjunction with the new album "Cease to Begin" which is due to be released TOMORROW October 9, Band of Horses is currently participating in the ZUNE 'Ignition' artist program. The Ignition program provides a unique multi-platform online promotional push for artists through Zune, MSN, and Xbox.
Zune Marketplace is currently offering the free track "Is There a Ghost," and another free track "No One's Gonna Love You" will be available during the last 2 weeks of October. Xbox Live is offering a free video download of the band's live performance of "No One's Gonna Love You" along with interview footage. MSN is currently streaming video from that same live performance/interview and holding an online listening party for the band's new album.
Previous Zune 'Ignition' artists include Maximo Park, Ryan Adams, Editors, and Talib Kweli.

what are you trying to imply here? i mean, we've already called them sell outs. is this just one more example you'd like to offer up? maybe it's addictive. you try it once, and all the sudden you're songs are everywhere (see pb&j).

So, I think it's pretty safe to say their next album will be on a major label, right?

The new Zunes seems interesting. It's amazing that it is almost 2008 and the iPod still doesn't have a simple FM radio.

Am I really supposed to outraged about Band of Horses and Zune from a blog with an Itunes banner above it?

No, Brooklyn Vegan is 100% completely pro selling out. He mentions the issue from time to time to keep up some type of facade of indie credibility, albeit a particularly aloof and detached facade.

Well, unfortunately advertising is pretty much the only way for a blog to make money, and all the bandwidth we use looking at Brooklyn Vegan doesn't come free. Not to mention whatever costs BV incurs in reporting. Plus his time. I don't think it's a big deal that he carries ads on his blog. It's the only way we'd get to read it.

musicians should make no money for the time and money they put into making their music? and the music should be available free because you want them to feel privlaged that you are listening to it?

Musicians should make whatever money people are willing to spend on it. There are lots of musicians putting time and money and work into music just because they love it, not because it's their career. And yes, a lot of them would be overjoyed to simply have an enthusiastic audience!
It's a shame that some people are content to simply download everything they want to listen to. We should support our musicians more. But that's not an excuse for BoH to sell a song to Wal-Mart. I mean, they can do what they want, but I (and a lot of other people) will think they are lame, lame, lame.
