it means that all religions are gay and this is the anthem. and when i say gay i mean homosexual, not stupid. whoever made gay into the word stupid is a ignorant brilliant.

good going for AF.
I mean, good going in the sense that they got a bunch of hype for an interactive site.
nothing special at all.
note to pitchfork: please dont make a big deal out of something that just turns out to be an elaborate e-card.
like the first commenter said, would have been cool in march

Amy Phillips, ladies and gents
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 5:04 AM
boring song, boring website. what a waste of time. maybe they did it to get ideas for what people would like them to ACTUALLY DO.
i hope i never spend that much time looking at his face again
Posted by ro | October 6, 2007 7:25 AM
at least it's interactive...
i wish it were a webstream of the randall's island gig (maybe it'll turn into that later today?!?)
Posted by di | October 6, 2007 7:53 AM
fuck, i thought it was bowie.
Posted by Marli | October 6, 2007 8:20 AM
I didn't realize it was such a pain to get to Randall's Island for a show. Has anyone ever driven there before for a concert? is it generally pain to drive or easier to take public transportation?
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 9:02 AM
yea pretty underwhelming --
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 9:18 AM
driving there is okay, leaving is a nightmare. prepare to be intraffic leaving the show for a good hour or two in the parking lot... having been there many years for warped tour. waiting for buses at the end of the night could be even longer. too bad they close that pedestrian bridge to manhattan at sunset.
Posted by brian | October 6, 2007 9:40 AM
yeah, what applesauce said. i was expecting at the very least a live broadcast of the show at randall's island.
Posted by ko | October 6, 2007 9:56 AM
that wasn't that amazing. neat, but not worth the hype
Posted by joooooooeee | October 6, 2007 10:15 AM
very cool video, but unfortunate that pitchfork hyped it the way they did.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 10:20 AM
this is what its going to be like when jesus comes back.
whole lot of hype for some wierd looking dude with a few sleight of hand tricks.
Posted by pd | October 6, 2007 10:36 AM
whoa!
during the part where the 4 white cards are on the screen.. i clicked on one and it flipped over and read "10/6 Secret Late Show". i clicked again.. and it took me to the ticketmaster page to buy tickets.. i got 2!
people, there's more to it than just a video!
Posted by copiii | October 6, 2007 10:37 AM
Just like Radiohead is releasing an album on their terms, this interactive video deliver over the Net instead of MTV is a new way to deliver entertainment to fans. Very well done. Not as cool as Pitchfork made it sound, but still very cool.
And why would the secret be a webcast? There is nothing special about a concert?
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 10:47 AM
which white card did you click on to get the "10/6 Secret Late Show?"
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:02 AM
yeah it hasn't worked for me either. maybe it matters which order you click on the cards. or maybe only some play throughs let you get tickets?
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:08 AM
or maybe he/she is lying.....
Posted by erin Flaherty | October 6, 2007 11:17 AM
or maybe copiii is full of shit and a troll
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:17 AM
yeah Ive played it like 5 times with no avail. I really wanna go to that show!
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:17 AM
i got a cheer for something i did w/ the cards, almost a really low applause.
Posted by brian | October 6, 2007 11:25 AM
i got a cheer too when all of the cards had the same symbol on it. i have now watched this video so much, and i am so frustrated, that if they play neon bible tonight i will rip my hair out.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:27 AM
its when they are all the same symbol facing up. but, i dont know what you need to to once they cheer.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:31 AM
also if you let the water fill up. those lights dont come out to grab
Posted by brian | October 6, 2007 11:33 AM
you guys should feel silly if you went back to the site looking for a link to a secret show
Posted by jk | October 6, 2007 11:34 AM
I don't think im going to like hearing neon bible anymore after this morning
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:36 AM
just got three candle flames to come up. the hand will go grab them if you click on them. if there is no secret show, i'm going to feel really stupid. i've done this over 10 times now. neon bible is getting realllllly old.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:38 AM
so i reckon this is there new single eh?
"you guys should feel silly if you went back to the site looking for a link to a secret show"
haha thats great. especially those claiming to know where it was. haahaha.
Posted by mat | October 6, 2007 11:39 AM
i'm giving up. seems like a fake.

Does anyone have an address for Randalls Island?
Posted by MikeC | October 6, 2007 12:36 PM
directly under the triboro bridge.

Neon Bible is a book by John Kennedy Toole. He wrote it before Confederacy of Dunces but thought it wasn't worthy of publication while he was alive. It was released posthumously.

What's the concessions situation like for Randall's Island shows? Beer? Food? Prices?
Posted by Brooklyn Dodger | October 6, 2007 1:21 PM
They have pretty much fried everything. Don't expect anything healty. County fair food. Yes, beer. insane prices. long lines.
Posted by Carnie | October 6, 2007 1:28 PM
Anyone ridden their bike out there before? Places to lock up? Easy to get off the island afterwards?
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 1:39 PM
Bike riding to Randall's: it's been a while, but I recall steps/bike ramp from the Triborough Bridge pedestrian/bike path going down to Randall's Island. I think there's a pedesrian walkway on both sides of the Triborough - accessible from either Queens side or Manhattan side. But these walkways are often closed for various reasons - there might be other resources on the web (Transportation Alternatives) that has more up-to-date info on the bridge walkways/bikeways.

You really can't ask for a better day to have an outdoor concert. I think a lot of people were afraid about the kind of chilly weather in october but today is absolutely a beautiful day. Considering we had quite a few rainy outdoor concerts this summer this is going to be one good thing randall's island has going for it today.

ya fucking idiot
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:12 PM
"Down is the New Up" was right except for some slight mistakes.
They did My Body Is A Cage instead of Ocean on Noise, which they did not play.
Also in his LCD set list he never had Get Innocuous, which they also performed.

Wynn was not happy when some crowd members decided to Boo after he said that they won't be coming back to NY for a couple years. Not happy at all.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:53 PM
Win probably would not be happy to see that you misspelled his name, either.
Posted by Anonymous | October 6, 2007 11:58 PM
Thanks for the correction, "guy who booed."
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:07 AM
that was fucking amazing
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:19 AM
that was fucking amazing
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:20 AM
what did they mean by not coming back to nyc for a few years? no more touring for a while? or just staying away from nyc?
Posted by sablesma | October 7, 2007 12:36 AM
It was definitely good, but I thought it was much worse than their show at Radio City back in May.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:36 AM
Maybe its because I saw the Radio City show back in May (which was indeed better fellow Anon), but I think LCD Soundsystem really stole the show tonight.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:47 AM
from the front, it was incredible. like a soccer game, only sexier and with more drugs.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:09 AM
AF failed to impress. LCD definitely stole the show.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:14 AM
Of Course. LCD.
Posted by Eduardo Osorio | October 7, 2007 3:02 AM
Regine is so fucking annoying. I hate her mannerisms, her stupid gloves and why did she sound like a chipmunk tonight? I'm pretty tired of Arcade Fire now, but the show was good.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 3:10 AM
cue everyone pretending not to like arcade fire b/c they are popular now.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 4:14 AM
That venue sucked so bad. You knew it as you were walking in. Just too many people. Bands were great, however. Never again Randall's Island. Never again.
Posted by positive pete | October 7, 2007 8:35 AM
I thought the sound during AF was terrible and that really spoilt it for me. LCD Soundsystem were amazing and were worth the ticket price alone.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 9:06 AM
The crowd that comes out for outdoor shows always amazes me too. One highlight, one girl smoking a joint, blowing the smoke into her friends face and then making out with her a bit, all while her boyfriend (dude with his hat on sideways) takes a photo with a grin on his face that just screams out "Awes!"
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 9:35 AM
that show was amazing in every aspect. anyone complaining about the number of people there is an idiot. and my god, the sound, as far as outdoor shows go, was impeccable. sure ive seen better arcade fire shows but cmon... of course it wasnt going to be as emotionally powerful as seeing them in judson church or something but damn i mean the weather alone was something to cheer for. some of you people seriously have a stick up yr ass and seem to be going to shows for all the wrong reasons.

I thought the sound in general was great for an outdoor venue. I went primarily for LCD, and they've never disappointed me before, and surely didn't last night. To me, easily the highlight of the evening. "Someone Great".....
I was getting kinda shot by the time AF played (that's what I get for getting there at 3:00) and stood kinda back where it was less crowded, but I thought they were very good. I'd never seen them before live, and even with all of the hype, wasn't expecting all that much, so I enjoyed it.
I really liked Blonde Redhead, too. Surprisingly good. Where was the bass coming from during the songs she wasn't holding one? That couldn't have been ALL kickdrum... was the drummer doing it on a pad? That drummer was insane, I wouldn't put it past him. Probably a track, though?
LSF- very entertaining and high energy, and that guitar player is a killer.
Wild Light- I liked them, but moreover was impressed with the sound at the venue (they were the 1st band)... the kick drum was POUNDING from the first note.
I really shouldn't post hungover....
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 10:21 AM
Wild Light was a pleasant surprise.
Les Savy Fav were crazy.
Blonde Redhead a bit of a disappointment.
LCD incredible.
Arcade Fire incredible.
Up at the front the whole time, my friends shook Win's hand, he came out before Wild Light and walked across the front.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 10:26 AM
You're right...it was a good show. But I agree with a bunch of these people in saying that the sound was pretty bad for AC. It wasn't their fault, I think they played the best they could, but it still lacked a presence and an energy that makes for an incredible show.
i feel like its a small number of bands that are able to play such huge venues and make it work (radiohead, U2, Zeppelin). The Arcade Fire isn't one of them. No one is strong enough on their own to carry it (Win's voice, regina's persona, etc.) Their whole thing is that they're a bunch of wild and wacky kids running around, hitting things and having fun...which is great in a smaller venue, but when you really need to play so the people 500 yards away can hear, they fall short, in my opinion. They aren't a stadium band.
Posted by Ryan | October 7, 2007 10:32 AM
re: Anon 9:35am, yeah, it's sad but large outdoor shows like this usually attract the Jersey and Long Island sleazy trash. I'm glad I didn't go.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 10:41 AM
Be glad you didn't go. I was there and as soon as I made the long trek to giant field filled with thousands I thought to myself: "oh, fuck. What did I rope myself into this time?"
I had seen lcd soundsystem at bowery this year and the dude looked like a tiny ant at this place.
I came into this thing with a positive attitude because of the nice weather, but it changed almost immediately when I arrived at this pigfuck. Even Curiosa festival wasn't this bad. This show had multiple stages of barricades to get through just to get anywhere near the stage. That wasn't so at Curiosa festival.
10:13, anyone who isn't complaining about the sheer numbers of people is a fucking idiot. The people who went and saw these great bands at smaller venues were the smart ones. A lot of the people here who plucked down 40 bucks to be a dot on a giant field, missed the boat a long time ago.
I was there. The bands rocked. However, I'm not going to try to brainwash the smart people who stayed home into thinking a show at Randall's Island was "awesome."
Posted by positive pete | October 7, 2007 11:31 AM
The sound during LCD was wicked. The bass sounded amazing. The sound during Black Mirror was fucked up but it looked like they had it fixed by the 2nd song. Win's mic shoulda been louder in the mix in my opinion.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 11:34 AM
Picture an epic battle scene from Lord of the Rings. Helicopter shot overlooking waves of creatures sourounding a tiny castle. Throw in some bad carnival food.
That was last night.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 11:41 AM
haha laughing at the idiots saying how amazing some undersold stadium show was hahaha. What is so funny is that my friend went who also went to rock the bells and said rock the bells had about 20 times more people
Bowery really took a bath on this one.
Positive Pete-I respect everything you had to say. Seems like the voice of truth in this thread. Everything you said was spot on. Good for You.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 11:55 AM
re: 10:41 AM, Completely untrue. The Queens buses going back didn't even have a line and the throngs of Manhattan-bound people nearly all got off the train at Union Sq.
Jersey and Long Island stayed home just like you did. If it makes you feel better about yourself to think otherwise, though, go ahead.
Posted by morefunupfront | October 7, 2007 12:00 PM
anyone have the real LCD setlist? unless i totally missed it, they didn't do "daft punk is playing at my house." also as someone mentioned earlier, i think they opened with "get innocuous!"
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:15 PM
amazing concert day I got a pic with Tim Harrington
also im surprised no one mention this. I was to the left of the stage and when I was leaving I was like holy shit look! and the members of arcade fire did an acoustic of some song im not sure what it was but it was cool because i was like 2 feet away from them and it was a funny song
Posted by Daniil | October 7, 2007 12:32 PM

We arrived toward the end of Blonde Redhead(boring) and had no problem getting up front where the sound was great for LCD and AC. As for the crowd, there are idiots at every show. Some are from NJ, LI and some are from Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. I go to shows for the music and last night was some great music. Sure it wasn't like seeing AC & LCD in smaller venues but it still worth going.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:37 PM
Awesome show, but the video was absolutely terrible. Didn't capture the energy of the show at all-- actually made it look so much less energetic than they really are. Lay off the video effects and pick a shot, no need to layer 4 shots over each other.
Posted by Jeff Rigby | October 7, 2007 12:38 PM
Soo, here is some video from last night.... i have more, but i figured this would be the one people would like to see first... Lucky for me I got pushed around and landed right in Win's face. :)

Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 12:52 PM
From what I can recall, LCD played
Get Innocuous
--incomplete and in no order--
North American Scum
All My Friends
Someone Great
Tribulations (I think)
--and the last two songs were
Yeah
New York I Love You
they didn't play Daft Punk (which I was indifferent about) or Jump Into the Fire (which I was pretty bummed about--until they annihilated everyone Yeah)
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:17 PM
2nd song was Us vs Them.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:27 PM
They also played Movement.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:28 PM
Wow, so I guess I was the only person from the Bronx? I disagree that the sound was good for The Arcade Fire, I think it should have been lower for LCD and higher for Arcade.
Posted by Lex | October 7, 2007 1:29 PM
if you didnt have a good time at this, its your own fault. of course there was a lot of people there, its randalls island, fools. positive pete is actually negative nelly in disguise apparently. waaaah so you had to walk around a barricade to get to the front section. big freakin deal. if you thought about it you might realize they did that so they could keep it from getting overcrowded up there.
lcd also did time to get away and us v them, i think there was at least one or two more... great time all around, beautiful weather and just a good feeling. thanks to all the great bands!!
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:34 PM
they also played Time To Get Away too I think
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:35 PM
LCD SS is currently the best live band on the earth.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 1:36 PM
Fantastic show.
Arcade Fire was much better than at Summerstage, where I saw them last. Too many people -- but hey, it was a stadium show.
LCD was awesome.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 2:06 PM
Ah thats what it was! I knew that song sounded familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it, Thanks.
Posted by daniil | October 7, 2007 2:40 PM
"LCD SS is currently the best live band on the earth."
What an idiot
So glad i saw both these bands this year at much smaller places. Now those were some shows.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 2:50 PM
Don't be too disappointed that LCD didn't do "Daft Punk is Playing At My House." I saw them do it at Bowery and they play it up-tempo live and imho it loses much of the magic of the album version. It does not surprise me at all that LCD stole the show, they are such a great band!
Posted by hipster replacement | October 7, 2007 3:05 PM
Jersey and Long Island DIDN'T stay home. Was anyone standing near the front with those 6 guido boys? Annoying as HELL. Talking about Italian Subs and claiming every AF song their favorite. Jumping around and bothering everyone around them. Assholes.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 3:13 PM
re: Anon 3:13
yes. they were so damn annoying.
they kept moving in and out throughout the show.
and looked like dumbasses
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 3:25 PM
not every guido is from jersey/li. could've been from staten island. anyway, yeah, they were right annoying.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 3:54 PM
Having seen the tour date in Minneapolis last Saturday, I can say that it was definitely a better show than last night. I was pretty close last night but the sound just wasn't that great - the low end was too heavy or something. Plus, half the fun of seeing the Arcade Fire is actually seeing them ... which you couldn't at Randall's Island. And yeah, I was surrounded by assholes in the crowd, too. It amazes me how many people are willing to pay to go to a concert and talk through it. It's a shame last night was a little underwhelming because they were freaking awesome in Minneapolis; both bands were completely overwhelming.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 4:27 PM
2:06 "Arcade Fire was much better than at Summerstage."
Are you out of your mind?! Which bunch of morons are going to be convinced by this moronic statement??
Summerstage is not even a quarter the size of Randall's and David-fucking-Bowie played with them. AF were still on the brink of popularity (you could still buy tickets to that show day of). Obviously you were not there if you're making a dumbass statement like that.
Posted by positive pete | October 7, 2007 4:49 PM
if you don't like huge crowds, there's your problem. if you generally dislike your favorite bands becoming popular, then you should start liking worse music.
i'm not that into arcade fire, i came for lcd and blonde redhead and both were great. i've seen blonde redhead at smaller shows and much closer up, but i've never heard kazu really like she did last night.
i ditched halfway through arcade fire to beat the crowd back and to make it down to bowery ballroom.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 6:30 PM
oops, meant to say i've never heard kazu scream like she did last night.
Posted by Anonymous | October 7, 2007 6:31 PM
I thought the show was just fantastic. I've been a fan since the first album came out, but this is the first time I got to see them and was just blown away. I thought the performance and the visuals were just spectacular. I would have preferred to see them in a smaller place (I tried the last time at United Palace, but it sold out before I got a chance), but thought they did great to communicate with a larger audience. I also loved LCD Sound System and Blonde Redhead. Excellent bill all around. You can find some additional pics here:
