Bloc Party was great live as always. The majority of their set was from Silent Alarm, which will always be one of my favorite albums. Kele making his way to the middle section and running right by me was pretty sweet too!

anyone need a pair of Arcade Fire tickets for less than face? can't make the show, need to get rid of these. thanks.

I'll take the arcade fire tickets off your hands. Email me the details jamstater@gmail.com

Yea, it was a great show, first time seeing Bloc Party, was really impressed by the energy they put out, and they pulled off the 'Weekend in the City' stuff really well. Very impressed!

There are tons of tickets on Craigslist. Many as low as $30, but you can probably get them for cheaper.

i'm not sure i could ever seriously listen to this band after the incredibly inane shit the singer said about jack white.

Bloc Party have recorded a new song called 'Flux'.
If you're in the UK, you can hear it on Zane Lowe's Radio One show and if you're in the US you can watch the band play it live on Conan O'Brien. Both air tonight (4th October).

why are so many people backing out of Arcade Fire this weekend and scrambling to sell? I think maybe that venue was too big for them.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 12:35 PM
i thought the bloc party show was fantastic. maybe its just because i like them so much, but i had a blast. first time i was able to see them and all i can think about is how they must have destroyed at Bowery Ballroom.
oh yeah tokyo police club rocks!

Loved the Bloc Party show last night, those guys bring it and their drummer is one of the best around.
Posted by tremags | October 4, 2007 12:40 PM
i'm assuming flux was the "new jam" they played during the (first) encore last night? if so, i'm already psyched for their next album. they really did bring their a-game last night too - feels like they keep getting better each time i see them.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 12:54 PM
how were they in a bigger venue? seen em 3 times now and all were in smaller places. i have to agree about needing another album before seeing them again. a weekend in the city never did it for me.
Posted by big venue | October 4, 2007 12:57 PM
yeah i think that was the "new jam" but i felt like they played another song earlier in the set which i did not recognize...am i wrong?

this show was great. bloc party never stops delivering. they are a great live band. No "little thoughts" bummed me out.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 1:10 PM
bloc party is very good but when i saw them at ACL i just didn't feel them like i used to. however, their show at bowery ballroom a couple of years ago was amazing! hopefully their next album will be better than the 2nd as i felt it wasn't nearly as good as silent alarm.

"i'm not sure i could ever seriously listen to this band after the incredibly inane shit the singer said about jack white."
What did he say, I never heard anything about that.

ROCK STARchitect - that song they played when kele was saying to the crowd they were cool if they'd heard before was "the once and future king." think it was a really obscure b-side or unreleased track. pretty awesome, wasn't it?

How were Tokyo Police Club? They were terrible when I saw them at Bowery.....
Posted by Bulf | October 4, 2007 2:38 PM
What?!
i think tokyo police club is great. i saw them at bowery as well and they got me hooked that night. i was a little nervous for them playing the MSG theatre because of the size, but i thought for the lack of stage "theatrics" they held their own. i was also surprised about how many people were in the theatre when they went on.
Posted by ROCK STARchitect | October 4, 2007 2:46 PM
oh and thank you 2:10. i thought i was a big fan. apparently not.

Bloc Party were great but that venue sucks for crowd. Theatre at MSG is always full of teenagers. Had to stand next to the high school football team dancing with themselves even on slow songs.
The crowd had a lot of energy but it seems like they were just excited to be in the city on a school night. Sadly, that's the way it is when bands become popular. The crowd gets younger.
Also with theatre at msg you get the few older office crowd who got the tickets through their company who won them in some Bloc Party/ New York Rangers lottery.

Instead of pot you smell someone eating a chilli dog and nachos.
Uncool venue.

ROCK STARchitect: Did you own the album before seeing them at Bowery?
That's why I thought they were so bad...the execution of their songs that night (the second night) was really really bad, almost embarrasing. Hard to believe it was even the same band. I loved the album, but after seeing them that night I felt like I'd been robbed.
Perhaps you went on the first night they played Bowery?

although i'm not a fan, i really respect how bloc party will release non-album singles in between full-lengths, just as bands in the 60s would do. it's just a great way of keeping new material fresh in the audience's ears', and will probably elongate their career by the sheer fact they're always around. and new music for fans is alawys exciting. kudos lads.

No love for Smoosh?
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 3:48 PM
well i might be a little embarrassed to say now but i was there on the second night and i only new 'nature of the experiment', but a buddy saw them open for cold war kids and he thought they were good. well he's Canadian so maybe thats why. jk
i like there shows and the music just seems different to me. a good different.
one negative is the lead singer does way to many flamingo kicks. stupid tight jeans.

why do people hate on young crowds....teenagers are passionate about music and not just standing there jaded with their arms crossed. thats why shows in dc are so great b/c all the good venues are all ages.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 4:22 PM
Ummmm....is everyone just afraid to say it - but the show last night was COMPLETELY MEDIOCRE. I was expecting it to be great.
Seriously! The sound - bleh - the songs - bleh. They need some new songs badly and that new one they played was not impressive. Melodies, guys.

the problems with youngsters is that dont really have an understanding of music history, and they tend to worship the acts onstage. thinking that bloc party is the best band in the world, is just...sad.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 6:59 PM
and the problem with the elderly is that they tend to preface all of their sentences with "the problem with youngsters is..."

What an inane statement.

"What an inane statement."
What an overly simple comeback from a dullwit.

I'm suprised that the Bloc Party show made an appearance on this blog after it was left out in yesterday's "What's going on" segment and only put in a few hours before the show. Nice to see Bloc Party still has some value here.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:09 PM
My bad for reffering to Bloc Party as 'it'.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:09 PM
Well you had to assume that their credability would drop slightly after they decided to open and tour with Panic at the Disco.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:35 PM
yeah, but thank christ for collapsed lungs.

Speaking of which, the drummer didn't seem to have his "A" game yesterday. Although his "B" game is any other drummer's "A" game.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:28 PM
So the drummer of Bloc Party is the best drummer around today when he brings his A game?
Posted by Neil Peart | October 5, 2007 1:10 AM
when will this band fuck off?
Posted by Anonymous | October 5, 2007 8:22 AM
Yea, I have to echo the person above defending 'the kids.' I'm 37, and went with my brother, who's 27, and we were surrounded by young un's, and we seriously thought about moving further up where it appeared there were some empty seats so we could just chill and watch the band, but it was actually really fun to be around a bunch of kids who were screaming like crazy for every song and having a great time. Good for them. If they think Bloc Party is the greatest band in the world right now, so what? They won't in a few years, and I can think of WAY worse things that i'd want my kids listening to, so here's to the 'kids' from an old-timer, thanks for helping me enjoy a show more than i've enjoyed one in awhile!

Ahloe, New Yohk Citay!!!!

Is it just me or did every single one of their songs sound exactly the same?
Posted by Anonymous | October 5, 2007 11:48 AM
It's you, they rocked.
