their new album is great

If BV deems them special, they're special.

Don't fuck with the hype engine.

i think they are pretty blah too

they really turned it up a notch last night, i had seen them before and was kinda lukewarm, but they doubled the numbers last night adding a 2nd keyboard/guitar player, that guy ryan from lonewolf and tall firs on bongos and another guy on sax. it really filled out the sound, it wasnt any kind of spectacle but very enjoyable to listen to.

They played their entire new album straight thru, not one old song. I love the new album, but I wanted to hear an older song or two. Someone even yelled towards the end, "We want WAR!" Either way, they were great. Katrina busted her leg the other night and was balancing on a chair the entire show. She aplogized for giving only half of herself "physically" and said that the crowd was a "testing audience" for the new material. Great show, new material sounded amazing live, just needed some old stuff!

People who went to the show at WBAR know that they TORE IT UP there - really good show. Really like the new record.

We are back online and will soon be taking over your world.

A warning to all hipsters. Be afraid of us. We are not cool.

But neither are you.

So maybe we will be friends. After we destroy you, of course.

even if you don't love the records, their live show makes them worthwhile.

too much hype around this band

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:17 AM

Perhaps the hype has been built up by 2 years of steady touring.

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 3:52 PM

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 4:04 PM

celebration is the greatest band around today! katrina is a goddess.

Do you want to know why this band is so hyped? Because they are well connected. They are okay and thats about it.....okay......however, they have a magic weapon behind them and that is the TV on the Radio gang bringing them on board to shows and helping with promotions, etc. Consider this another case of the Takka Takka and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah....another mediocre band that got anywhere because their pals that were more established helped them out.

Not bitter in the slightest bit, just stating the truth.

I wish Celebration the best, however, when you are hyped up too quickly, you usually fall down pretty quickly too.

they're so hyped because they're fucking incredible live. ever seen them in a small venue (not mccarren this summer)?

they're pretty good on record - this one is definitely a step up from the last - but not great - but their incredible live presence is why they're hyped.

and you're totally right about takka takka - altough their new line-up is fucking killer - they played the delancey last week with all new material and were (dare i say) incredible.

For some unknown reason, Union Pool are being assholes by turning away people who want to pay to get in the show and aren't letting anyone in who isn't on the guestlist or holding a CMJ badge. If you have neither, don't waste your time going to Union Pool tonight.
