Enough is enough with these flavor-of-the-month no-talents. Time to move on.

I don't have a band.

that picture really says a lot.. between the corporate curtain in the background, to the mtv microphone.. just plain weird. and completely expected. it really is amazing how fast music grows these days. blah.

it's called the I-N-T-E-R-N-E-T...it's this new thing that allows people to communicate and send information...check it out sometime

yeah, that picture grosses me out too.

yo anon 1:03,
if you liked the music before because there was no corporate shit around, you should stop listening to music and start a junk shop. if their music is good, why not share it with the masses?
did you go to any of the pool parties this year? any sponsors? go to a cmj party? any sponsors? even the deified bv has solicited sponsors for his events. should the money that huge corporations have never touch an "arts scene?" most bands would want the exposure from an mtv interview.
unless you are accessing the internet from some fashioned-together computer you made yourself, you're supporting a corporation, too.

Yeah, you are right we should go back to the days where taste was defined by a bunch of execs in a boardroom and the costs of running an independent label were entirely prohibitive and stunted the growth of good music. That was assuredly better...

WHY IS DEACON SUCH A DOUCHE.
we're tired of his crap music.
Posted by hostile towards dan | October 18, 2007 1:18 PM
was the show any good? ive seen deerhunter before and was extremely underwhelmed
Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2007 1:23 PM
I've seen Deerhunter three times this year and this was definitely the best one yet. Bradford is toning down his Marilyn Manson schtick and concentrating on the music. I wonder if almost losing his guitar player whipped him into shape. Anyway, they were a five piece once again.
Posted by j | October 18, 2007 1:45 PM
joey spaghetti is right on the mark. Sponsors did not get in the way of this being a fantastic show. See you @ heist!

i love how everyone knows about these bands faster than ever but cd sales are declining like crazy.
everyone is just stealing more shit.

deacon's set was amazing. have never seen bowery ballroom that alive before.
deerhunter wasn't able to really follow his energetic set, and half of the crowd left after deacon as well, which didnt help their cause.
Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2007 2:04 PM
Deacon was madness and quite a lot of fun, but musically Deerhunter was (once again) the standout. Just my opinion.
Posted by Eduardo | October 18, 2007 2:23 PM
did dan deacon do his regular set?
Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2007 2:28 PM
I loved Dan Deacon's set-- plenty of energy to go around. Since he sets up his equipment in the crowd he allowed photographers to get onstage so he could be surrounded by folks that just wanted to dance. (I'd never been on Bowery's stage before so that was cool.) And I've really dug Deerhunter's live shows each time I've seen 'em -- last night was no exception. (two cents)

Oh yeah, No Age were really entertaining, too. Missed White Williams and the other bands so can't comment on their sets. Very good show all around.

Music sucks. We're breeding a nation of humping anti-intellectuals with great clothes.

Anon 2:04 has right, but j, which Deerhunter did you think you were watching? The first time I saw them was at South Street Seaport and they were great but the majority of the crowd then was either classic-New-York-apathetic, or was there for Battles. Last night, the crowd was a combo of exhausted because of Dan Deacon, cranky because Deerhunter hit the stage at 12:30AM, and underwhelmed because Deerhunter followed Dan Deacon.
Bradford even admitted that they didn't want to follow Dan and from the first song I could tell it was going to be a letdown. It didn't help either that Bradford was ha-ha-ha-hammered. Btw, what about that meltdown he had on-stage at the beginning of the encore? He misses his family? It was funny but also pathetic. I felt bad for his bandmates, esp. the guitarist who sat down on-stage Indian-style during Bradford's trainwreck. They were visibly embrassased.

Sorry, moment of weakness. I mean music rules and I'm really hopeful that something good will come of all of this.

OVERHYPED
thanks pitchfork!
on a side topic, why is pitchfork so influential? with so many music sites around, why must everybody be slaves to their usually shitty "best new music"??
Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2007 3:22 PM
Someone should stick a pitchfork in you, dipshit. You're done.
Posted by whipping boy | October 18, 2007 3:38 PM
Fun fact Pitchfork earlier this year labeled Menomena and Blitzen Trapper Best New Music, you aren't hearing about them as much as Deerhunter and Dan Deacon. The reason is these artists are connecting with people more. Maybe it's not your bag but it's also kind of wasteful to spend your time on music blogs telling people how crappy the bands they like are. What have Deerhunter and Dan Deacon done to you personally to make you want to not only go to a website that promotes them regularly but click on the articles about them and comment on them and then go back and see if anyone has commented about your comments so that you can respond? Does this not seem silly to you?
Posted by Tim Duffy | October 18, 2007 3:41 PM
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to read Pitchfork. I always skip the first three paragraphs of their reviews, as they are rarely about the album. But I appreciate that they totally anticipated their own backlash by naming their website after Satan's tool.
I thought No Age rocked. Kinda wasn't feeling it at first, but it got really good.
Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2007 3:44 PM
And Tim Duffy makes an excellent point. YESSSSSSsss!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Anon 3:44 | October 18, 2007 3:57 PM
Deerhunter kinda sucked at the Seaport I thought. Made me think they can't handle an outdoor festival-type venue.
Posted by Anonymous | October 18, 2007 4:54 PM
Great show. Dan Deacon was great, he's a Real Showman and a fucking pleasure to watch. Y'all gotta just leave the "corp. sponsorship is killing music" bullshit behind. What's killing music is a Bowery Ballroom of critics who are too "over it" to get into the show and rock out a little.

jesus...
see what happens when pitchfork interns attack!
3:38 & 3:41
if you guys think they're gonna let you write for their crappy website someday, you better improve your punctuation

OMG! The Totally Irrelevant MTV VMA's Are In Full Hype Swing
HEY TIM DUFFY
