Dirty Projectors played Mercury Lounge - playing Zebulon
First of all, Dirty Projectors are playing Zebulon tonight (Oct 3)
Dirty Projectors @ Mercury Lounge, NYC - Sept 28, 2007

The Dirty Projectors show at Mercury Lounge on September 28th was my favorite show in recent history. Amazing. Led by Dave Longstreth on guitar and vocals, the Dirty Projectors change lineups all the time. I didn't like them in the past, but what I saw Friday night completely blew me away. It was just unfortunate that they only played for 45 minutes - on the other hand, maybe it was perfect. Brian Mcomber plays drums, and Amber Coffman & Angel Deradoorian perfectly accopmany Dave on vocals and guitar & bass - a tight back and forth of highs and lows and I don't even know (cause as I said, I have a trouble describing it). It's tight. Just see them if you can (unless the CD turns you off - then they just might not be your thing).

Ecstatic Sunshine were good too - for what they are, which is kind of of noisey, and not exactly what I was in the mood to be seeing (hearing).

None of them are my thing, but I prefered Ecstatic Sunshine noise.

They totally totally killed it. Glad to see he's finally getting some shine too. Also of note was the spectacular hippie who was headbanging all over everything, then turned to his buddy and said "Ain't a damn thing changed."

anybody know what time they are on tonight? long bill listed at zebulon website.
Posted by anon | October 3, 2007 2:51 PM
It seems like BV comes on here once a week gushing about the best show he's seen in a long time.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 2:56 PM
angel's hot. ange farouche.
Posted by agw. | October 3, 2007 3:07 PM
This was my first time seeing them and it was by far one of the most amazing shows I've seen in a while. Straight up...I fell in love!

dirty projectors are awesome. anyone know what time they take to the stage tonight? long live yale drop-outs.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 3:48 PM
i fucking hate flash websites. when are people going to learn that their inefficient for the user?
Posted by mat | October 3, 2007 4:49 PM
When I saw The Dirty Projectors, it was awful. The audience began booing and heckling them; demanding they get off the stage. Did they get better or something?
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 4:58 PM
what's wrong with a little enthusiasm. enthusiasm is sexy, being a kill joy isn't, however.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 5:38 PM
the enthusiasm is well-warranted. nobody else in this jerkoff town is as furiously after a vision so unique or complex or undeniable. see it acoustic, if you can. holy hell.

Search this site for the term "blown away"...the results are pretty funny
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 6:59 PM
can't you become hostile when he calls les savvy fav the best band ever, or something? dirty projectors are legitimately one of the better bands out there with probably the least acclaim.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 7:26 PM
does anyone know when Dirty Projectors take the stage this evening? It looks like there are a bunch of acts before them... could be late.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 7:33 PM
"jesus, give it a fucking rest." makes you sound like my alcoholic uncle (I don't have one, but if I did).

"Did they get better or something?"
YES
--
" The audience began booing and heckling them; demanding they get off the stage. "
Completely the opposite at this show.
--
"Search this site for the term "blown away"...the results are pretty funny"
The search returns posts and comments, so if you're implying I say "blown away" a lot, I'm not sure that's true. I didn't check though - it could be true, but probably not.
---
I was blown away by the Dirty Projectors though. Sorry if that offends you.

i just called zebulon and the moron said 9pm. yeah right. like they're gonna go on stage at 9pm. i'm guessing they don't hit the stage til probably late...
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 7:45 PM
yeah, I called Zebulon as well and they initially said 11pm, then he hesitated and said come early. not sure what to believe. I get the impression this DP set is just a warm up for their upcoming tour. it will probably be short.
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 7:49 PM
dirty projectors are on 2nd or 3rd
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 8:03 PM
It's currently (10pm) a zoo at Zebulon. I live a block and a half away, walked over... place is SRO, with about 25 people milling around outside.
Posted by bill p | October 3, 2007 10:00 PM
what does sro mean?
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 10:55 PM
they have another week or so before they go to europe.. i wonder if they'll play another small show to warm themselves up..
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 11:29 PM
they went on second (at 1030?) and played a short 30 minute (terrific) acoustic set (to a house almost entirely filled with what looked like family).
Z's were on next - dunno if the Dirty Projectors were gonna play again after though...
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 11:41 PM
are you sure it was acoustic?
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 11:47 PM
well - it was just Dave strumming on his electric while the girls sang backup sans drummer or any other instrument
Posted by Anonymous | October 3, 2007 11:57 PM
sro means standing room only. ga means general admission. loge means loge. real first row! means front row first section rather than front row loge.
p.s. i also went to the show. enjoyed it but not nearly as much as everyone else. dp is definitely not for everyone but i can certainly appreciate where the band is coming from, unlike some of these drunken uncles up in this comments piece...

it went dirty projectors, dome theater, skeletons, zs. all were great. iliked zs and skeletons the most.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 2:50 AM
zs were absolutely amazing. loud. but amazing.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 3:21 AM
does anyone know where I can listen to music by Zs online?
Posted by anonymous | October 4, 2007 8:02 AM
yeah, i mean the electric guitar was plugged in, but there was no drummer, which really allowed one to appreciate both the guitar work and what these people are doing with their voices (as instruments).
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:04 AM
here's their myspace page - http://www.myspace.com/zstheband
they were quite intense, especially for a 1:00am show.
also, two gallants played at glasslands.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:35 AM
what was the deal with dirty projectors playing for 5 minutes?
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:54 AM
yeah you know where were you when Dirty Projectors opened for Hella at Europa back in March, or played their free show at Whitney Museum in July? This current line up is the real thing. The next Talking Heads, obviously. New Attitude is a great single.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 9:57 AM
they played a little over 30 minutes by my count
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:04 AM
it was somewhere in between 5 and 30 minutes - only three songs - miserable & thirsty, depression, gimme gimme gimme. weird levels with the sound but hey it was free and fun.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:10 AM
it was definitely more than three songs - more like 7 or 8.
and it sounded fantastic - how could it not? It was only one guitar and 3 vocals
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:27 AM
no definitely just 3.
the guitar was louder than amber & angel's vocals from where I was standing so it sounded a little out of balance.
still great though, hope they do a full band show before leaving town again.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:36 AM
dude, it was at least 5 songs - you seem to have missed some of the show from where you were standing too
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 10:54 AM
"This current line up is the real thing. The next Talking Heads, obviously. New Attitude is a great single"
these posts keep getting funnier and funnier..what's next; you're gonna tell me "Music Snob" is the next Hunter S. Thompson???
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 11:08 AM
"miserable & thirsty, depression, gimme gimme gimme."
This comment makes it sound like the Dirty Projectors haven't gotten any better....
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 11:15 AM
^^^ but those are black flag song titles.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 11:18 AM
It's really just another public art deconstruction audio exhibition, innit?
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 11:42 AM
no, it was definitely only 3 songs. not complaining. it just is what it is.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 11:46 AM
3 songs is wrong.
they also played spray paint.
Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2007 8:26 PM
Theyre all Black Flag songs, you tard. The whole new CD is a Black Flag CD.
For such an opinionated pack of whiners you sure are uninformed.
Posted by someone who knows | October 8, 2007 3:05 AM
Glad they're getting more of the recognition they deserve.
