Land of Talk's gear was stolen in NJ

Land of Talk @ Maxwell's, Hoboken, NJ - Oct 26, 2007 (CRED)
Land of Talk @ Maxwells

we were robbed at the Howard Johnson in Clifton N.J.
they stole my Cherry Red "faded" SG special with crescent moon inlays (pretty rare) and my Gibson Les Paul Studio "wine red" battered and beaten.
they also stole Chris' Bird's Eye Maple Samick SAB 650 with only one bridge pick-up and one volume knob. the Neck pick-up and and all other knobs are missing. His Peavey Milestone Bass (not worth ANY MONEY, but it fuckin worked just fine) was also stolen. it was midnight blue but we stripped most of the paint and the strap lock was a water bottle cap. [Elizabeth Powell of Land of Talk]
Someone told me Land of Talk's van was broken into before or after their show at Maxwell's the other day. The above quote is Lizzie's unfortunate e-mail confirmation. See Land of Talk on tour, and keep an eye out for their equipment.

"wasnt yo la tengo recommending this motel to stay during their holiday shows?

Ira Kaplan doesn't play guitars with humbuckers.

"the robbers had good taste"

Not really. The Gibson faded series guitars are crappy IMHO and the LP Studios are hit and miss. Still sucks!

i would check the guitar center up rout 46

What time does Daft Punk get their equipment stolen?

Posted by Anonymous | October 29, 2007 10:30 PM

seriously, Jersey is lame. people from Jersey have no respect for anything.

Posted by New Yorker | October 29, 2007 11:02 PM

is there anyway we can help them?

Posted by Good Samaritan | October 29, 2007 11:05 PM

It was the guy from oiNK.

12:07 you forgot to add: drunk rantings from a frat-boy bridge-and-tunnel douchebag.

Thank god he had his friends there to help him figure out the train. Also, his attitude affirms 11:02 comments about people from jersey having no respect.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 12:48 AM

so were they robbed or was the van was broken into?

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 12:53 AM

always check the pawn shops.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 7:37 AM

Jersey's Ok. I just don't like NY... douche.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 8:53 AM

'people from jersey have no respect for anything'

thats like 10+ million people. Nothing like a sweeping generalization to sound like an ignorant fool.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 9:03 AM

"so were they robbed or was the van was broken into? "

I guess the van was broken into. I didn't totally realize unti know that you weren't supposed to say "robbed" unless there was violence of some sort involved. changing. thanks!

I really do hate it when people just believe that they know everyone in jersey and that we are all the same. If anything, its easier to generalize people from i dunno, lets say williamsburg, than people from jersey which has the most populated, diverse state per capita in the country.

Also, just because it was robbed in New Jersey, doesn't mean that people from New Jersey did the robbing. Clifton is about a 15 minute drive from the city so it could easily be someone from new york.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 9:52 AM

I think it was someone from CT

That youtube video is the perfect example of the meathead Jersey trash that defile NY every weekend! can't you ppl hang out at Applebees or something in Edison? As someone born and raised in NY, my anecdotal experience dealing with folks from NJ has almost always been negative and annoying. They have no manners and are really trashy. I speak for most New Yorkers who grew up here in saying there is nothing worse than living in or being from Jersey. it's just one of those things you learn growing up here. folks with Jersey pride are in denial.

Posted by New Yorker | October 30, 2007 10:31 AM

As a native of NYC, I prefer people from Jersey than the massive onslaught of hipsters from the midwest, northeast, California, etc... Jerseyites have more in common with NYC than the unwashed masses that came from Ohio.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 10:35 AM

That sucks. But you gotta be smarter and bring your guitars and irreplaceable gear up to the hotel room with you. Don't leave it in the van unsupervised. C'mon now.

Frank Black had all his gear stolen back in 2001. Guess where. NJ!

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 11:13 AM

someone stole my virginaty in NJ

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 12:36 PM

@7:58 haha

NJ Represent.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 1:03 PM

what i love most is midwestern transplants who live in brooklyn and complain of the jersey b&t. check the map, bitches, brooklyn is not connected to the city by land.

Posted by Anonymous | October 30, 2007 1:09 PM

"...has the most populated, diverse state per capita in the country."

That clause doesn't make any sense.

Anyway, New Jersey has strip clubs that are better than any in New York City.

Go out to Irvington, East Orange, or Patterson and tell me it's awesome.

Also, if you want to be randomly shot execution style for simply hanging out, go to Newark. Corey Booker is really cleaning that place up I hear.

"...if you want to be randomly shot execution style for simply hanging out, go to Newark."

Philly is worse.

What about the south bronx, brownsville, most of queens, downtown Yonkers, Flatbush, treemont, hunts point, ect. These are nice places?

Lets get real, there are crappy places around every big city in every state.

Drive ten miles and its a diffrent world.

growth of NJ, NY and CT is a result of NYC. Its all the same poeple. Put two NJ and LI guidos together and you won't be able to tell the diffrence. its like arguing over coke and pepsi. they both suck, but there not the only chocies!

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2007 11:32 AM

I made fun of jersey earlier but I'd have to say at least its not long island.

Posted by Anonymous | October 31, 2007 11:45 AM

agreed, Long Island is worse than Jersey in many regards.... but at least you won't get shot in Long Island, unless.... you shoot yourself from guido-meathead-overload.

Posted by New Yorker | October 31, 2007 2:52 PM

It's because it was Clifton. My friend's car got stolen from the train station parking lot there.

Not all Jersey is created equal.
