Lucinda Williams & DAvid Byrne

, David Byrne guested at Lucinda Williams' town hall show last night (Oct 4)...they did a few songs..."Heaven" was one of them.. "Buck Naked"...oh, and he came back for her encore and they did "Take Me To the River". Amazing. Fionn Regan was also there, and David Johansen came on to do "Jailhouse Tears", a sort of duet she does. Also a woman from Memphis who toured as a background singer with Cat Power, she did a Janis Joplin cover.

Tuesday Steve Earle guested....and Jesse Malin...

Weird combination for Lucinda, but it all worked great. [Juan via email]

Yeah i was just going to post about Susan. Juan must have been drunk at the show cause Lucinda only announced her name like 1000 times. And no she is not related to Chan but she has an amazing voice. Also, this juan character failed to mention David Johansen doing "Lookin for a Kiss" as well.
Great show all around although I mentioned to my friend that it seemed odd that Lucinda had to consult a lyric sheet for the words to "Take Me to the RIver"(which mostly David Byrne sang). Seemed odd that a wonderful and soulful artist like Lucinda would not know the lyrics to one of the most well known and best songs ever written.

David Byrne also sang beautifully with Lucinda on her song Overtime..he looked and sounded amazing...Lucinda was lucky her pals stopped by...she sounded great, but all 3 shows were marred by her stopping and starting songs again and again..was cute the first time, after that, it just got weird and annoying and ruined a bunch of the songs. Get over it Lucinda.

Lucinda has to look at the lyric book for her own songs all the time. It's rather annoying.

I recorded most the David Byrne performances as well as a few other songs and put them here if you want to listen...excuse the clipping as the gain input was mistakenly set to "high"

the funny thing about lucinda is that she explained the do-overs by saying they were recording the songs for the instant cd's they sold at the end, so she wanted it just right. But the cd's have all the talking and the stopping and starting included on them...She really missed the point in some ways of PERFORMING the full album live. that it was not supposed to be just another recording. As great as it is to have these cd's (and she sounds amazing on the cd's, with the stops and starts not nearly as annoying on the cd as in person), it kind of messed her up performance wise.
