No Age @ Bowery Ballroom

No Age played a show with Deerhunter @ Shangri La in Brooklyn last night (Oct 22, 2007). No Age also played a show with Deerhunter @ Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday night - that one was the Windish CMJ showcase, and that's the one I was at, and that's where Jefferson took the pictures you see in this post....

It was the first time I saw No Age, and I liked it - even tired from the balcony. I think I would have liked it better awake, on the floor, and in a smaller venue though. MP3 & stuff here.

White Williams and Dan Deacon played this show too. No Age also played an in-store at Other Music. They were supposed to also play at St Mark's Church, but that was cancelled.

I enjoyed last night in Shangri La. A lot. Even if I did have to leave before Deerhunter, and the beers were pretty expensive.

i think that "weirdo rippers" is the best debut album of the year. and there are like eight or nine tracks from the eps that aren't on it as well. i also read somewhere that they're playing at columbia on thursday, but i'm going to shout out louds... damnit!

They ARE playing at Columbia on Thursday with Double Dagger, it is three dollars and guaranteed to RULE. It's at the Lerner Party Space - the show will be open to the public, follow the signs!

bring your own beers. duh.

did you see how fancy shangri la was? the beer wasn't cheap but it wasn't as expensive as at a real club

"bring your own beers. duh."

why so i could get manhandled by todd p's giant goon security? no thanks!

Posted by Anonymous | October 23, 2007 1:10 PM

what goon security? it looked like the same scrawny college kids who are always working at his shows to me.

Posted by Anonymous | October 23, 2007 1:17 PM

no, there was that one chubby kid with a beard. but, he was jumping around with the other idiots during no age. i brought my own, and so did many others. just sayin. next time!

"totally...since when does DIY = $6 beers?"

when todd isn't in charge of the beer...

Posted by Anonymous | October 23, 2007 10:30 PM

what did i do wrong now? i wouldnt say i was goon security. shangri la hires thier own security and they have thier own rules. i was just working the door and trying to stop idiot drunk kids from getting fucked with by real security. and if you werent jumping around during no age then walk the fuck away.

actually todd controlled the beer at this one. shangri-la usually gives beer away.

the bar was the venue's profit, not the bands' or Todd's.

did you notice it's a really fancy place? Fancy places don't let shows happen in them often or for free - they can make a lot more money for less trouble with film shoots and expensive exclusive private party rentals.

It isn't cheap to use a place like that for rock shows - and that venue rent is payed for by the bar.

Even at $4 cans and $6 bottles, the drinks were still cheaper than at MHOW or Bowery or Studio B - and the show itself was at least $6-10 cheaper than you'll see either of those bands play for these days.
I don;t know what your talking about as for any goon security - there were just a bunch of sweet kids who always work the door at Todd P shows.

The guy who lives there's buddies were there keeping an eye on everything - and while they are bigger dudes, and a little tough looking - they're hardly goons or even bouncers.

Shangri La doesn't give beer away - you're confused because usually the parties that happen there are sponsored by big marketing and promotional companies who pay a high rental fee and give away promotional beer.

It's a positive thing that this show was a for real, locally produced rock show and not a marketing event.

pretty sure the comment about free beer was sarcastic, dude. read it again.

No Age's Myspace site says they are playing the PostCrypt at Columbia tonight, not Lerner. Anyone know for sure which is correct? (obviously I can hack the 5-minute walk from one to the other if there is confusion)

I was there about three weeks ago for a party that had absolutely no sponsorship. it was an art show with a bunch of bands in the room with the stage - 10 bucks to get in and open bar once you were inside. all the money raised is going to put on the next party.

the no age show @ columbia is in lerner, not postcrypt, sorry about the confusion

I'm confused. I was buying bottled lager for $4 at SL. Were you guys at the same show?
