She really was incredible.

What was with that penisface in the balcony shouting shit at her? Anybody else hear that?

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 9:29 AM

She was fucking brilliant.

I've seen her three times, and this was by far the best show I've seen from her. She seemed so happy. I've never seen her talk so much and joke around at a show. And the solo set up was the best because it allowed her voice to cut through more.

A lot of people were yelling things at her-the typical "we love you, Polly!" She took all the screaming in good stride.

i can't believe i sold my 14th row ticket.

wish i went to this. worked 15 hrs instead :(

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 9:42 AM

This show was way better than Daft Punk.

"A lot of people were yelling things at her-the typical "we love you, Polly!" She took all the screaming in good stride."

maybe its because I was sitting right near him, but there was a real fuckface in the balcony who was yelling like "POOOLLLLYYY, wheres the goddamn GUITARRRR??" He seemed a little pissed to be there, like he got drunk and was dragged by a friend. A few people told him to shut up.

Anyway- it was a peerless show either way, and she thankfully never heard him.

She'll be around again soon enough, I'm sure. Hopefully at a GA venue (maybe the new Terminal 5???)....

Posted by rocked the shit | October 11, 2007 9:49 AM

Was she better than when she opened for U2? I was not at all impressed when I saw her open but that was about 3 years ago.

She'll be around again soon enough, I'm sure. Hopefully at a GA venue (maybe the new Terminal 5???).

What makes you think so? The last time she was here was 2004 and before that it was 2001. According to that logic, she'll be back in 2010!

when she played the new yorker festival last year, it was a similar setup. i'm so jealous of those who attended last night! i'm sure she'll play some dates soon.

Posted by jayme | October 11, 2007 10:35 AM

and the "way better than daft punk" comment... not that she wasn't amazing, she was. but they're completely unrelated. why would you even compare the two?

it was an incredible show and i heard most of what i was hoping for. truly one of the most talented artists working today.

waht..no 50 ft queenie?

Posted by hipster poseur | October 11, 2007 10:40 AM

i'll never forget that show. damn, everything about it was beautiful. she really is in a class by herself.

the crowd, i thought, was a good one, as far as most nyc crowds go - lots of excitement and energy in the air. sorry to hear about the jackass though. did that one guy down near the front really yell up something like, "you're ridiculous!"? and if so, he meant it in a good, slangy way, right? (like when people say, "that's sick"?) no matter, it was funny how she responded to it.

long live polly jean harvey!

"This show was way better than Daft Punk."

you bite your tongue

amazing set indeed, Victorian punk heartache...

A female hipster was wandering around the Williamsburg streets last night, around 8:30pm, trying to sell or give away her PJ Harvey ticket.
"Do you like PJ Harvey?" she called to me from across the street.
"Yeah, why?"
"Want my ticket? She goes on in a half-hour!"
"Sorry, I won't be able to make it in time."
I wish I could have taken advantage of this random opportunity.

This was a fantastic concert. The price was high... high enough to deter any of my friends from wanting to go, but I just snagged a single seat right up in the front. And I'm glad I did. It was one of the best shows I've been to. Probably the best I've seen PJ, too. Perfect setlist. And yeah, to me, much more satisfying than Daft Punk (which I went to).

anonymous 11:04am...you tell THE BEST stories. i thought this was a joke when i first started reading it.

"female hipster walks into a bar...."

Posted by hipster poseur | October 11, 2007 11:14 AM

She was unbelievable!!!

Posted by Christopher | October 11, 2007 11:56 AM

Does anyone have a recording of the show?
The show, btw, was incredible.

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 12:20 PM

it was a phenomenal show. really intense and moving. easily the best time i've seen her, and i've seen her often.

i was sitting in front of that douchebag in the balcony who kept yelling at her. he kept yelling, "yeah, polly jean, baby! play that guitar, baby! yeah, baby!" it was so annoying. people told him to shut up plenty of times. he finally piped down when the venue security caught him recording. i wish they would have just dragged him away and beat him up, he was such a TOTAL DOUCHEBAG.

Posted by kaitlin | October 11, 2007 1:14 PM

girl can wail.

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 1:32 PM

I think she is easily the most talented woman in rock history. At least up there with Bjork. I would have to put her ahead of Janis Joplin, Kate Bush, Chrissie Hynde and Joan Jett.

Last night's show was incredible. Her voice never sounded better. It made no difference that she didn't have a band. I just wished she would have played a little longer.

"She'll be around again soon enough, I'm sure. Hopefully at a GA venue (maybe the new Terminal 5???)...."

I kinda doubt it.

Sentimentalist Mag's review is up with great photos now too...

If she had done one more encore of at least two songs, it would have been even more perfect, but nonetheless, it was quite a flawless show!

Posted by madeline | October 11, 2007 1:48 PM

Quite possibly one of the best shows I've seen in years. Amazing. Just amazing.

Thanks for using my photos. I did a write-up on Blender too, if anyone cares to read it (I'm shameless): http://www.blender.com/news/comments.aspx?article=9949

But yeah, phenomenal show.

my socks are still at beacon.
she rocked them bitches right off my feets.

can't believe that williamsburger who turned down free tix. it was free. take a cab and you get there on time. what a tard.

Posted by mrkmcc | October 11, 2007 3:28 PM

Ryan- That guy actually DID say she was ridiculous, but in a positive, slang sort of way. In fact, after she said "What?" he responded something like "You're so good, you're ridiculous," but she didn't hear. That's when she said "You called me ridiculous!" But of course, it was taken in stride. Amusing moment. And I usually hate when people yell shit inbetween songs.

Posted by Matt | October 11, 2007 4:15 PM

Luckily I was in the loge, where you couldn't hear too much douchebaggery coming from the balcony. Though, there were quite a few attendees with zero concentration skills in our row. You need to get up for the fifth time and climb over every one to get another beer? Really?? Next time could you just stay home and binge drink please?
Ridiculous.

That said, the show was seriously amazing. It was a perpetual goosebumps sort of experience. Her voice.. oh man. PERFECTION (all caps, for real.) Who cares if she didn't play 50 Ft. Queenie? She had already killed me by the time she got Man-Size. I even got my ticket over-priced from a craigslister and it was worth every penny. Kick yourself if you missed it.

Thanks for putting up the setlist!

Please if anyone has or know someone that recorded the show last night ? She was absolutely amazing !

Posted by Krista | October 11, 2007 4:58 PM

By far the best concert I have ever been to in my entire life. She was awesome and her voice gave me goose bumps. She played the guitar with grace and she is just one elegant lady. I wish I could do a song with her one day.Next up for me Tori Amos at the theatre in Madison Square Garden. She is the only other lady that can hang with tha piano. Totally Awesome.

One of the best shows I have seen in a long time. She looked great. It was a fantastic performance and I am so glad I was part of it.

Posted by Anonymous | October 11, 2007 6:41 PM

I totally agree. It was my third time seeing her and that was the best one. Thing is she gets better every time!! Anyway, I've got some pics on my page as well...

Damn. I drove up from VA with my girlfriend just for the show. Worth every mile. Rid of Me was a cute choice to open an encore with! She blew me away too. Made me feel ashamed for not playing my guitar enough and makes me want to pickup the piano. Would have only liked her to take a little more time between songs to maybe talk about what the song meant, etc., but just a brilliant performance.

Posted by Tony | October 11, 2007 11:14 PM

Wow, the show was mindblowing! Not only was the music great, but Polly seemed really relaxed and happy, joking and talking with the audience between every other song (and everyone loved her, of course). For a crowd that size, it was a really intimate experience. I'm so glad everyone seems to have had a good time.

This is the first time I've seen her live (the lady doesn't tour much!) and I'll definitely go again. When she turned up the distortion on the drum beat and launched into 'My Beautiful Leah', I experienced such a moment of perfect contentment as I've rarely felt in my life.

I don't know what I liked most, the haunting beauty of the tracks off the new album, or the raw energy of 'Man-Size', 'Snake', etc. I just wish she could have tried for the high notes on 'Silence', but the imperfection is what makes it so human.

Thanks for the set list, which will help me remember the experience more clearly!

Matt: Thanks for the info, I couldn't make out what the guy was saying exactly ... that's funny. I'll have to make a quick change to that review.

Posted by Ryan | October 12, 2007 11:12 AM

I thought of that little show at Sin-e she did all those years ago (summer '93?) as she was alone on the stage (although a much bigger stage this time). She really was the most chatty and relaxed out of all the 10ish times that I have seen her. I thought it was hilarious when she said that she said she was enjoying playing WITH (as opposed for) the audience as some of us were SO loud. Her range continues to floor me.

Posted by C | October 12, 2007 2:20 PM

I have seen her at least six or seven times and this may have been the best. She was amazing. I miss the drums and band at moments but overall I love the way the way that all of great quirks of her voice and guitar/keyboard playing were highlighted.

If anyone has a link to a recording then please pass it along.

Thanks
