St. Vincent played Knitting Factory (CMJ)

St Vincent @ Knitting Factory

A lot of bands played this show actually. More pics & coverage coming soon. Photo by Jefferson who told me St. Vincent put on the best show he's seen at all of CMJ so far (it happened at Knitting Factory - Oct 18, 2007).

The show was worth only getting 3 hours of sleep for.

She played one of the better shows I’ve seen this year, really amazing. She was very sweet and really threw herself behind the songs she was playing. Awesome Beatles cover. I got some pretty rad pictures.

i took video and a photo of her pedal board...try to figure out her setup: http://www.themodernage.org/2007/10/19/whats-on-st-vincents-pedal-board/

i've seen her in every arrangement i can imagine (acoustic, solo electric, full band, in a cafe w/ piano accompaniment)...really a different show every time. this one wasn't as good as some others i've seen...but she is super awesome. is there anything cooler than skinny little waif of a lady using ten pedals to absolutely murdering a guitar solo?

this was the best showcase of the week

She is super-awesome but honestly I found that show truly annoying. I think it's because it takes her like an hour to set up; an hour of tweaking, fussing, slightly altering sound levels... Like, look, you're not going to be super-hyper-produced! It's a live show! Let your hair down! And yet I kind of respect her for her fussiness.

it was like, i mean, like, she like, was so, like, oh my god, like cool

Choire you have a speech impediment

I think... wait, no! I know I'm in love with St Vincent.

I agree with everyone. St. Vincent was amazing - one of the success stories of the week, I'd wager. But I'd like to get behind The Papercuts too - it was pretty, delicate pop that reminded me of The Zombies with a little bit of Syd Barrett's space-outs. No?

Before the show, I asked Annie to marry me, and afterwards she told me I was the first person to pull that joke.

I was super-proud of the worst joke ever.

If you really were the first person to try that joke on her it only speaks to the shyness of indie-boys, because you're hardly the first to think it.

Yeah, I didn't think it was particularly clever or anything. Pretty obvious for the most part, but you only get one chance, so why not?

I think the fact that no one had pulled the joke has more to do with people just not caring all that much. Plenty of people there knew her and were fans of her, but everyone just kind of waits nonchalantly for bands to play and then leaves as soon as they're done. It's just general apathy.
